Just got my iPhone 1.1.1 in Florida Mall, no problems, they did have a disclaimer about modifying the phones on the counter, and gave a pre rehearsed statement about the iphone, and gave it out, no problems. Took about an hour to hack, on a mac, following the instructions on http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_information_1.html I still had to install anysim.app, via independence. All functions seem to work OK.
    Qork.

The unlocking guide for mac(presuming you've jailbreaked it) is on the following page;http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_step2_mac.html

Thanks rc28 but the website says the following:
This guide is only for 1.1.1 iPhones that haven't been previously unlocked by any method.

I bought an iPhone from unlockthatiphone.com with 1.0.2 firmware will this render my phone useless if I update? Sorry not to familiar with this stuff..

    Yes, it will. you need to "revirginize" your iphone first which is complicated and really not worth the effort- things could go wrong. There are no ground breaking features in 1.1.1 worth that effort.Here's the revirginize method;
    http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/23/iphone-elite-team-announces-revirginizer-release/

Also, i think that since you bought it from unlockthatiphone(who used the ipsf method) you would not be able to use the revirginize thing anyway. read the FAQ in the following-http://www.iphone-elite.org/

I too bought from unlockthatiphone, has anyone heard from them about a tool for updating our iphones to 1.1.1, they said they would offer free updates? I'm might wait until the new release of ibrickr.

I have my iPhone unlocked on the Vodafone network, and everything is working apart from mobile date.

I have tried all the APNs listed and I get the following message:

    isp.vodafone.com/live.vodafone.com

"Could not actiate EDGE. You are not subscribed to EDGE."

    Any suggestions?

    Hi all,
Apparently IMAP now works with Google mail on the iPhone. What is the benefit of this over POP3? Also, has anyone set it up yet on their iPhone?

I figured the same thing out about 2 minutes before I read the message.

    Thanks for you help.

I too got my iPhone just yesterday from unlockthatiphone.com and can definitely recommend them if you can't somehow get an iPhone from the US and unlock it yourself. They were very fast in answering emails and the phone was delivered yesterday exactly as promised.

One thing I'm a bit confused about is actually hacking the phone for third party apps. Since unlockthatiphone unlocked the phone, does that mean it is already jailbroken? If it is, can you just install the appTapp installer or what's the next step? Do you risk relocking the phone in doing that? Sorry for all the questions, just a bit lost at the moment :).

I've seen the hackingtheiphone site people mentioned earlier in the thread but it seems to list the full process from unlocking and activating your phone so I'm not sure where to go with things from the point my phone is at. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you should email IPSF to double check but i'd presume they would have jailbroken it. In that case, there is a slightly complicated method for windows users but for the mac you can use the following
    http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/10/11/putting-installerapp-from-apptapp-on-your-jailbroken-111-iphone/#comments
My advice would be to wait for easier methods to surface.

Thanks rc28 - I think I can probably just start from the appTapp installer section on hackingtheiphone (I'm on a Mac anyway) but it seems like it will restore the 1.0.2 firmware on the device during the process and I'm not quite sure the unlock itself will survive a firmware restore so...

No, I would not recommend doing that. Hacktheiphone.com is for the anysim (free method) unlock and the unlock that was used on your phone is completely different, you could mess things up by downgrading to 1.02(there is 2 aspects to downgrading- the basband and the firmware itself) As I said I really think you should contact unlockthatiphone first or search the internet(hackint0sh.org is a good place).
Btw where on hacktheiphone did you find the apptapp section, i can't find it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Yeah, I don't think I'd mess with appTapp without been too sure what has been done to the phone unlock wise. I've emailed unlockthatiphone.com about the 1.1.1 firmware anyway and they do seem certain that the upgrade method is coming soon, so I might as well wait for that first.

I found the appTapp tutorial part in the "deprecated tutorials" for 1.0.2 part of hacktheiphone. Here's the specific link:

    http://www.hacktheiphone.com/74/iphone_step2_mac_74.html

Still, after two days of use, I love the phone too much to brick it :).

Sorry, i forgot you had a 1.02 phone (hence why i mentioned downgrading). In that case i would say it's pretty safe to install apptapp, but to be sure wait for them to get back to you. I'm picking up my iphone later today from my buyer who got back from NY earlier in the week, can't wait:)

I have my iphone now and will start the long unlock process soon. Will update on how i got on later this evening. The iphone is an amazing looking device.
Also, the box mine came in gave the appearance of being a 1.02 phone (no itunes wifi store icon on front) even though it is a 1.1.1 phone (it is a week42 production model and iNdependence says it's 1.1.1 too).

    I successfully unlocked my iphone(with a lot of help from my brother!) and am delighted with it! It's working perfectly- youtube, itunes wifi store etc. There was one hairy moment though when iNdependence wouldn't work at all (kept getting error "could not enter recovery mode") early on in the process but it worked eventually. My next step is to put installer.app onto it;http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_step4_mac.html but i'm a little confused as i'm not sure if i have to install "fugu" first which is done in the previous step;
    http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_step3_mac.html
Neither steps mention the other and i don't see why i'd need it for installer.app
    Does anyone know?

Ok nevermind, i went ahead and did step4 bypassing fugu and it worked perfectly. Now have installer.app working normally on my iphone. I'm loving it!
However, since i synced my iphone with my brother's mac first it seems to see every other pc as a guest. In order to set my pc as the sole syncer it asks do i want to "erase this iphone" or somehting like that when i try to sync music.
Is this normal, is "erasing" an iphone just removing the music content and not restoring?

EDIT; went ahead and clicked "erase and sync" and it's fine. I'm now syncing all my music from my pc.

Don't know if this will affect 'Unlockthatiphone' but from now iPhones can only be bought with a credit card and the credit card used will be limited to 2 iPhones...

I entered the vodafone data settings but it still doesn't work, do i have to enter the "vpn" settings too? I'm on vodafone pay as you go, should i enter the live.vodafone.ie settings instead?

    Hi RC,

It aint that easy with 1.1.1, you need to do the following:

Drop the attachment into /private/var/root/library/preferences using SSH to fix loosing EDGE settings on reboot using 1.1.1

It is currently set up for O2 Settings:

To use for Vodafone/Meteor etc.- Edit using a text editor, replacing "internet, gprs, gprs" with whatever the APN, PASS and USER are for your chosen operator.
