That sounds really good ! I was just wondering how you managed to get work experience with a barrister in the four courts? I would love to do something like that :)

I saw it by chance on a school's website in a list of previous placements people got. I'll message you their email address, I imagine she'll take you on, if she doesn't have another student on the same week.

Does anyone know any computer repair shops around Dundrum,Sandyford,Leopardstown,Stillorgan that would be willing to take on a transition year student for Work Experience. A week with an IT Specialist could be really helpful in learning about computer hardware and it could also be good opportunity to learn about how the business runs.

Could anyone recommend anything/anywhere that would provide me with good medical work experience? I've tried sending letters to tons of hospitals over the summer with little or no response! I do have medical contacts and was wondering should I avail of these as a last resort?

Just wondering do you have to create a CV when applying/emailing for work experience placements. For some places such as Google, i'd imagine you would have to. Any advice

I haven't heard of anyone creating a CV for work experience. To be honest, I don't think you have much chance getting work experience in Google unless you have a relative that works there.

What are people's CVs like. We're only 15/16 year old so it's not like we have pages of experience working. I have one page with personal details and another page separated into sport, interests and skills. Don't really know what else i should include

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,395 ✭✭✭VG31

I haven't made a CV. I don't think there's really any need to at our age. I haven't got much to put on it anyway.

Thats what i was thinking but apparently some companies want it and it gives a better impression to the employer seeing a young man/woman organised

I think I'll make a CV after TY. I imagine I'll have some stuff to put on it at that stage (gaisce, jc results, work experience, etc.) I have, quite literally, nothing that could go on it at the minute.

Are your schools not making you do CVs and cover letters? That was a big thing for our part of Work experience. Ask your TY Co-ordinater to go through making a CV with you.

Also, no one expects you to have good CVs. The most anyone will have is babysitting or working part time in a supermarket. Once you get to 5th/6th Year you'll be looking for part time jobs to fund college/lifestyle and so on. Also, having a CV is handy because even though I got no work this summer, I got lots of work with charities to put on my CV.

I think my school has us making CVs. School hasn't started yet so im yet to find out. Where are people looking to do their work experience

Idk if anyone else is having this problem but ive dropped around 20 CVs to different shops that do work experience and out of the 20, 2 places have gotten back to me. I honestly think its so rude when places do that like they're getting free labour out of us hahaha, I dropped these CVs around in April too :(

I've sent loads of emails and haven't got any reply. Its like when someone ask who sent me this letter/CV they just say ''oh just some kid'' and chuck it in the bin. I guess once school begins we'll be given guidance but the fact some people already have their placements sorted out worries. Any advice people

Can someone tell me the TY Programmes TCD have for 2014/15. Some info on the website seems a bit old and there could be some changes
