Very good news all round yesterday and today.
They decided that she was doing so well that they did not need to restart the dialysis imminently (but are keeping it as an option). So other than the central line in her leg, its not a bother to her anymore. Aoife's pneumonia is improving too- she is now breathing without any oxygen at all. She is still not able to clear her lungs properly and is getting assistance with this (suctioning). Aoife sat out of bed for over 3 hours yesterday and they hope that she may start to move around a little with the help of the physiotherapist today. As she is no longer in need of the very intensive care of the ICU unit, they are also saying that they will move her down to the high dependency unit as soon as they can find a bed (possibly later today). I think it will do Aoife the world of good to get out of ICU. She is making very good progress.

Just saw this. Shane (whom I've met a couple of years back) and Aoife (whom I haven't yet), I salute your courage and your love for each other.

Is Aoife still being sedated to sleep? A suggestion - there's software called Pzizz, which I'll buy for you if you'd like it (PM me if you would, Shane). It generates autohypnosis tapes. If Aoife can sleep with in-ear earplugs, and if the hygiene of that is ok in her state of health, you might record a 60-minute Pzizz 'sleep', and then fill the rest of the eight hours with soft sea and stream sounds.

That will work wonders for the pneumonia,it will also get her circulation to go better rather than having to be in bed all the time.
It must be a great lift to see that happening even though she is still very ill. It's a mending sign.

Considering how difficult the last few weeks in particular must have been for you both, the approach you've both displayed has been admirable. The fighting spirit on Cathy / Aoife's part that you've described has been good to hear about, a characteristic which comes into its own in times like these I guess.

I wish you both well, and hope Aoife fully recovers as soon as she can. Take care you two.

You must be very relieved at how things are going, keep up the good work the both of you. :)
