Also incredible to see just how disconnected these people are from the potential damage these things can do. Considering the $billions worth of US weapons sent to Syria and Iraq, a simple method of deterring the Islamic fundies from using them is not a bad idea.
One US General recently admitted that 4 or 5 of their anti-Assad insurgents were still fighting. That's 4 or 5 individuals, not 4 or 5 battalions.
Its a cruel kind of strategy they are pursuing, one that doesn't want Assad to win, but doesn't want IS to win either. In other words, perpetual war in the NW of the region. While the US oil contractors can get on with their work in the SE in relative peace.

Even more irritating is when he comes back really slowly or stops about 50 yards away casually talking to another brother while he knows you’re waiting for him.

It is not unusual to see them walk away after eating leaving a big mess for someone else to clean up after them. And the sight of a typical kitchen sink is just appalling.

Another ‘great’ feature of Arabs in administration is that there is no queue in any of their offices. You could be waiting in line for half an hour and then another Arab would come and push in the queue and go straight in. Even more ironic is that he would even barge in front of the guy who is speaking to the admin. It’s not unusual for Arabs to push in nor is it unusual for them to interrupt you while you’re speaking to the admin. And because the admin is also an Arab he also sees no issue in another person interrupting you.

Some Syrians are such heavy sleepers that even shaking and kicking them would not wake them up. There was one Syrian brother who was so hard to wake up for Fajr prayer. I would call his name, shake him, poke him, turn him over, yet this guy would be totally knocked out cold. On one occasion, I was continuously waking him up after every 5 minutes for about half an hour. It so happened that I had to literally drag him out of the room by his foot to get him to go and do wudhoo’ for Fajr prayer.

Syrians love to stare at foreigners, maybe because no tourist has ever visited Syria. [...] However, the ironic thing is when it is done by grown men, especially when they do not stop staring at you. It can be quite uncomfortable to have a fully grown man stand a few meters away from you staring at you, and even when you look at him and give him a smile, he still stares at you without looking away. It can be like a staring competition at times.

The above mentioned traits should not deter a person from coming to Jihād, for not all Arabs are like this; we have many European battalions which one can join if he finds it problematic [...] every nation of people will have traits which may be somewhat bothersome to you.

Of course the big difference is that the Russian and Iranian weapons are being used on Assad's side against the fundies. The reason Assad is so disliked by the hardline Sunnis of IS such as our friend mentioned above, Mr Al-Britani, is that he is what we might call a moderate Muslim.
The Alawite sect which comprises most of the officer corps of the Syrian army don't believe in praying 5 times a day, because it bores Allah, are fond of the odd alcoholic beverage, and most even celebrate Christmas. And like the Shias, they are not prone to going on a foreign jihad, being more of the defensive type, rather than offensive. Hezbollah have historically only fought defensive wars. Israel and USA may choose to label them as terrorists, the same as Al Quaeda and IS, but IMO there is an important distinction between those who wage a defensive war in their own homeland, and those who wage an offensive war in a foreign land.

Had to laugh at Al-Britani's answer in the blog when asked what he thought of the possibility of Russians coming to Syria...

From June 2014 to August 2014 I was with a Russian battalion and from what I witnessed, Russians are very good brothers. My best friend was from Uzbekistan and I’ve written a bio of him (see previous entries on my blog). Europeans generally link easier than when its Europeans and Arabs coming together. And this is something quite normal and understandable.

Israel and USA may choose to label them as terrorists, the same as Al Quaeda and IS, but IMO there is an important distinction between those who wage a defensive war in their own homeland, and those who wage an offensive war in a foreign land.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but the Assad regime and Hezbollah are allies. Hezbollah are a Shia militant group, so I guess there's religious allegiances to factor in too.

I'd add Gadaffi to that too. None of them perfect, but each of them presided over a country where most people enjoyed a good standard of living, and the various fundamentalist religious factions were kept under control.
How many Syrians, Libyans or Iraqis do you reckon would say life is better now, after US/western backed "regime change"?

Lebanon has borders with Syria to the north and east, and Israel to the south.
IS fighters are now on Lebanon's doorstep; if they defeat Assad they will be more of a threat to Lebanon than the Israelis. Sunnis in Lebanon would not suffer much under IS control, but the Shia that Hezbollah represents would be slaughtered.

It looks like the US led "coalition" are being asked to stand aside and stop their somewhat lazy strategy of airstrikes against any/all moving vehicles on the ground.
