    Guys
Did the skin on your glans start to go dry/harden and crack shortly after the OP ?

A little, yeah. It's the new skin forming which will help reduce the sensitivity.

Are you giving it salt baths or bathing it in salt water? If so you may be using too much salt and dehydrating it

thanks for the reply , means a lot...

I've given it a few salt baths,,, no more than 5 minutes a time,, maybe I'll stay off the salt for now,,, also whenever I wash it in warm water a gungy stuff builds up on the head,,, I'm thinking that's dead skin ?

How soon did your stitches come out ?
I'm around the one week mark now....

I'm in no pain just a little discomfort but have been unnerved by the whole thing as I've no experience with anything like this before,,, you start to worry about the look of this and that,,,,,,

Considering going to the gp just for peace of mind that everything is normal and healing well...

My stitches didn't seem to make a move until the 3 week or so mark. There's still one left and it's over 4 and a half weeks now!

Did your doc tell you to do the salt baths? I asked but was told showering was better as it let everything run free and to not bother with baths of any type.

It is pretty unnerving all right. With all the swelling mine looked like a sausage roll where the pastry had been knocked off half of it and the sausage was left exposed :pac::pac:. This was both funny and unsettling!

If you're unsure you could always ring the urologist which should save on doctors fees!

    Thanks man
I was advised regular warm baths on the leaflet I was given leaving the hospital..

When your stitches started to come out,, how did it look between the 2 sections of skin sewn together ? like was there new skin there,,, I stupidly worry sometimes that the stiches will break from an nocturnal erection before the skin has joined to each other strong enough...

Your mind starts playing tricks on you I guess and you worry probably unneedlessly....

Also did your glans dry out and harden ?

The sausage roll description fits the look of mine too :-) lol

The gungy stuff (yellow liquidy stuff) is normal, part of the build-up of new skin both on the head and around the scar. Doctor told me a lot of people think it's a sign of infection but it rarely is. Completely normal in the first two weeks. Regards the salt baths, salt is definitely important as it helps reduce the chance of infection, just don't use too much.

Stitches will dissolve in time. I was told that if one was loose, to pull it gently and if it came out, that's fine, but trying to pull one out too early could lead to major itchiness. Best just leaving them to dissolve though (I think around the three week mark you'll notice them dissolve more).

It's worth going to the gp if you're worried, but just before the op the doctor told me that it probably won't start to look normal until the 2 month mark. I'm just over 5 weeks now and though it's still noticeable that there was an operation, it looks a lot better even just compared to the three week mark.

Best thing I found, just try not to think of it at all. P*ss regularly to prevent erections, and just sit back and watch dvds or play playstation or something. The more you think about it the more you'll be affected by it.

I just got a letter earlier today basically stating that my circumcision would take place thurday week!

Good news you would think, but I remember at the time been insistent on having it in October as it was easier to get of work.

I am under the impression that you will need a few days to yourself to recover?

Also I was told I would need an escort (not that type of escort!!:D) present so I could be monitored for the next 24 hours. This is a nightmare for me as I have not told anyone about my circumcision and while I have friends who I see as often as possible they are in a different county to me( I just hop on a bus to see them) i want to keep this on the dl as much as possible. I assumed I would have stayed the night at the hospital? That was actually something that would have suited me better. I admit it would be expensive but I have savings I was prepared to use for this.

Dunno what to do, can I get a hospital room?

And would it be possible to go back to work the next day?

I have been watching this thread on and off now for a while. A few years ago at the age of 23, I had to be cut. Phimosis.
Had it all my life, never seen another guys dick, so thought it was normal.
Any way, I worked for an American Multinational and found it difficult to get off work. I also did not want anyone to know what I was going into hospital for. I told my parents I was going away to Wexford for a few days, so they were sorted. I knew work would be a problem, was worried - unnecessarily as it happens - that the HR dept would find ou as the VHI forms had to go through them.
I just told work that I had a hernia and would be in hospital overnight. It explained why I might be a little sensitive down below without leaving my self out to ridicule.
In hospital I had to put down a next of kin, once I got confirmation that they would not be contacting them unless of an emergency, I gave them my girlfriends number.
Had the job done, went back to work after 2 days, nobody knew.:)

Surely your gf would have noticed there was something "different" down there, no?

She'd notice for sure unless she was some kind of anti sex born again Christian :-)

Maybe I'm just old school, but I like to make sure a guy knows where all the bases are before he'd get designated as my boyfriend!

In Louth, would 2 days be enough to take of work?

I really wouldn't think so. I had my operation on a Monday and didn't leave the house until Friday, and even then I didn't feel great about it. Depends what you work at and how you can dress. If you're able to pretty much sit down all day and you can wear tracksuit bottoms, then maybe. Though if your operation is on a Thursday, you could take Thursday and Friday off but then have the weekend off too (I presume) so that'd be 4 days. Again, still not ideal, but depends what you work at.

I think you'd have to let your boss know you're having some kind of operation, even if you don't say what. Even if you took a week off you'll still be waddling a bit and not at full speed.

The op isn't the thing that hurts mine was the Sensertivity of the helmet after, most people say track suit or loose boxers but mine was that bad I couldn't wear anything, then after a week I would wrap it in cotton and wear tight pants to keep it all in place... With the cotton put something on it so it doesnt stick coz peeling isnt nice
Even now nearly 3 months on I still prefer pants to boxers coz I don't like it banging around

Hi. I'm pretty certain I suffer with frenulum breve.

Does anyone what the story with getting a frenuloplasty in Ireland is? Can I get it done publicly? If so, does anyone have any idea how long the waiting list it?

I have scheduled an appointment with my GP for next week. Is there anything I should say to him in particular? Is it likely that he won't know what I'm talking about? I really don't want to get a full circumcision if its not needed.

    Many thanks in advance.

Question for guys who have been through this,,,,

How long did peeling of the glans go on for ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 50 ✭✭michaelg

    3 week update

Don't know if anyone is reading this but here goes......

The speed at which healing is occurRing now is quite remarkable,,,
each week makes a huge difference,,,
Still a few scabs and stitches remaining but I'd say it won't be long till they are gone.
Sensitivity is well down although the glans are still peeling a fair bit.

The freshly exposed part of foreskin under the glans is still sensitive and scabbing although it is getting better too.

To anyone getting it done,, try not to worry about how it looks and feels for the first few Weeks,,,, go to a gp if you need reassurance about anything,,,, and be very patient.....

Stretching worked for me thank god(wincing reading the last few pages). Maybe the best two months of my life at the time too. :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭bikeman1

I found this thread here and read a good few pages and started getting upset at all the guys going for circumcision. Let me give you my story.

I was circumcised when I was 4, due to phimosis. I still can recall the pain that I was in after. If you ask me it was the lazy answer to my discomfort when I went for a piss.

Fast forward nearly 20 years to today and I hate being circumcised. It is so bad. I have virtually no sensitivity in the glans of my penis. I virtually have to be pound my partner for ages in order to climax. I feel none of the pleasures I should do, because it has been exposed for so long. This will only get worse as time goes on. I also think it looks as ugly as fcuk especially along the scar line.

Guys, all I'm saying is if you can please do not get circumcised. It should really be a last option. Try stretching your foreskin a little bit everynight, you will be amazed at its potential to strertch. I have read up on guys who have successfully made things a lot better down there without surgery.

I just wanted to say I am not happy with being circumcised, and would do anything to reverse it.

    Hi all,
been reading your posts with interest and reassurance.
Just had a partial circumcision done and on day 3. looking a bit swollen and ballooning around the stitches and can just see the head of the Glans. No bleeding other than a very minor discharge from around a couple of the stitches.
no real pain or discomfort but the stitches catch every now and then and the erections at nigh can be a bit uncomfortable!!
looking for a bit of advice regarding cleaning etc. At the moment just having showers but am not sure at this stage as to whether i should be trying to pull the foreskin back to aid stretching and cleaning of the glans. I am a bit concerned that if i do i will open the stitches.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    cheers
