I guess it was all still a bit swollen when i posted that as its kind of flattened out a bit now. I couldn't pee straight standing up for a few weeks but now is fine. Its all healed up but the frenulum stitches are still there. Going to see the consultant next week for the followup, hoping he can snip them then.

Overall, no infections since, so its been a success. Would i recommend it to younger me?, nope unless very urgent, its not beautiful and might be off putting to younger partners, my wife doesn't care so older me doesn't either.

Oh, btw, Dunne's cotton y-fronts are the most comfortable afterwards - pro-tip! You don't want loose fit or boxers, you want snug so your gland doesn't move about and rub off the cloth which will feel like sandpaper.

Just wondering if others have the same experience as you with the lumps. Where did you get it done

I had mine 3 weeks ago today. The stitches are all but out and the scare is visible now just below the gland but there is still a lot of swelling just below the scare line so I'm wondering will it take a lot longer for that swelling to go down.

I had a lot of scaring on the foreskin before the op and the skin had stuck to the glad and I was peeing like a sprinkler so happy now to just be able to pee straight.

Nine months post op now, it's been a disaster . Im in constant discomfort still, my balls are pulled up because the surgeon was careless and removed too much, leaving me with significant scrotal webbing, and burial of the penis . The man shouldn't be allowed to perform circumcisions. Where the frenulum was feels awful, the wound opened up a week or two after the op and was basically hanging off, now that it's healed theres a lot of scar tissue. I read that if too much skin is removed the wound can be difficult to close and that is what happened.

I went with this surgeon because he used glue, and I thought that was the best method..

Since then I read that glue doesn't have as close of a knitting as a stitch does so might not be the best method in some cases.

The fact he removed too much , the glue just wasn't enough to hold it all together.

A specialist told me I could get webbing surgery but you're basically cutting away the scrotum and said I would hate it and that he can't do anything about the burying feeling . Man I thought I was getting a little bit of at the top , now I may have to get my scrotum trimmed. A word to the wise if you are reading this thread and thinking about a circumcision, exit this thread and never think about it again.

I don't exercise anymore due to the discomfort, I don't socialize anymore either , it's just ruined everything to be honest.

This sounds awful. I'm sorry you had such a bad result.

Hopefully all swelling gone by now, i suppose everyone recovers at different rates, my stitches in the gland didnt come out for about 5 weeks and the frenulum ones(which were a different material) didn't come out until around the 7-8 week mark.

I knew my swelling went down when i could stand up and pee straight!, which i'd say was a good 4 -5 weeks.

Best of luck with your recovery.

Sorry to hear that, sounds like a right nightmare, hopefully in time it will loosen up a bit.

I started back running after 8 weeks after i discovered Dunnes cotton y-fronts, they have a posh name for them which i don't recollect but that's what they are. They have a nice snug fit so the gland doesn't move around inside, which, as you certainly know feels like sandpaper for a good while after the operation. Maybe you could look into those?

Why did they do anything with your scrotum, surely the cut was much higher up?, certainly my scrotum is exactly where it was beforehand. At least that's what it seems like to me.

Honestly I would ask my GP to refer me to another surgeon in your circumstances and get their advice. If you are in Dublin I'd be happy to pass on the name of the surgeon that did mine by PM? Best of luck, hope you can get this fixed.

Five weeks yesterday and it staring to look fine now still a bit of swelling below the scar line and the skin feels tight but think that tightness will loosen when the swelling is fully gone. I think I can get back to running next week which will be a good way to start the new year as i have put on a ton of weight over the last five weeks.

Thanks for the tips on the boxers. I might check it out.

What happens when there is excess skin removed is that the circumcision is so tight that any remaining skin is pulled forward higher onto the shaft, and in turn, so is the scrotal skin, and even skin from your fatpad or pubic area is stretched forward. It means most of your shaft is now scrotal skin. It doesn't seem to be a risk that is talked about much and my surgeon never once mentioned it as a risk. It's so uncomfortable. The penis also retracts inwards into the body because of this and instead of foreskin or shaft skin covering it, your scrotum is covering it. It's ridiculous, can't believe I let anyone go near me down there come to think of it. If you google it you will probably understand it better.

The specialist I went to said there is no fixing it, you cant get back what is gone, but I could get scrotal webbing surgery to cut away the webbing which is very annoying, but he said this would be another operation, arguably bigger than the circumcision and will lead to scaring and have its own risks.

I was referred to Tallaght adult Urology by my GP, I'm wondering if anyone can give me a indication of their experience with public waiting times?

I received a letter from Tallaght acknowledging that I'm on the list for an assessment, if I thought it was going to be more than 6 months before I receive a date I'd start chasing down private referrals but I could do without the added expense.

It was pretty much 11 months from the day I went to my GP to the day I had the surgery.

Thanks for the info. How long ago was this? Which hospital did you attend?

    Hope your recovery went well!

Say my GP on the 13th of December 2022 got my appointment to see the consultant on 4th of October 2023 and had the surgery on the 20th of November 2023 in Kilkenny.

7 weeks today and recovery has gone well so far small bit of swelling still there and hoping to get back to some sort of full running and cycling next week, I have piled on about about a stone and a half in that time, Christmas of course didn't help either with the weight gain.

Hi all. I went to specialist clinic today and was advised I need to be circumcised (I agree with them) All in, it will cost about 3300 euro. Sadly, I just can't afford this. Anyone know what the current waiting list is to go public?

    Thanks for any input.

I had mine done in Vincents recently and the total cost was €1600 (according to the VHI statement). plus €250 for the initial consultation. IDK if maybe it costs more if you're paying directly.

I am supposed to be in next week but I think I’m going to chicken out.

I have phimosis and met consultant earlier this year. At the consultation he tried to pull my foreskin back which was awfully unpleasant.

I thought the procedure was under general anaesthetic but it’s actually just local which actually freaks me out.

And reading this thread it seems to be at least several weeks to recover. I have 2 kids under 4 so that might be difficult.

Should have given this more thought in hindsight.

I had mine under a local and was able to drive home straight after it with no side effects at all and really glad I had it that way instead of being put fully under.

I chatted away with the anaesthesiologist and one of the nurses while the procedure was being done and the surgeon was very reassuring.

All said and done from the when I went into the operating theater to starting my car to drive home was about 90 minutes.

The prep and waiting to go into the theater was about the same 90 minutes.

Thanks, Could you feel much with the local anaesthetic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 DexterMorgansGhost

Nothing stronger than a pinch at the start while they were waiting for it to kick in and once it kick in.

I never felt any pain. They gave OTC painkiller when I left and I never felt the need to use it.

I'm regretting my 2nd frenuloplasty more and more, two years later and the there is still a serious loss of sensation. The only thing to loo forward to is Foregen passing the human trials and coming to market.

If you think about it objectively, this is the week you'll come across all the good reasons not to do it!
I'm a year post-op now (Kilkenny) and among the other benefits I don't have phimosis any more.
I had a general and got a lift home later in the afternoon.

I'm very happy with the result all round and would recommend going through with the surgery if you need it.
Recovery times vary from reading the thread here myself over the last few years, but if you follow the care instructions it's only mildly uncomfortable for most of that time as your glans adapts to the outdoor life.

Two kids under 4 will be two kids under 10 for a long time. How much bouncing in your lap do they do?
The best time might indeed have been a couple of years ago, but the second best time is next week!

You might be able to contact the doctor or hospital and say you'd like a general instead or even just a sedative with the local. The anaesthetist can make pretty sure you remember none of it. Even asking on the morning of the surgery might be enough.

    Good luck!

    sorry about dragging this up

I’m considering speaking to a doctor and seeing if I should get a circumcision

I’ve just had my 3rd accident, this time it was the forskin splitting.
it’s happened before on the other side followed by my banjo string nearly splitting

Im mid 30’s and I just think I should at least consider it.

I’ve a fairly decent health policy. Typically are these procedures covered ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,775 ✭✭✭niallb

My procedure was covered by Laya.
Just make sure to match up both the surgeon and the location on your policy.
If you've had 3 accidents and counting, this is more than cosmetic surgery!

Long time lurker. Had my surgery in Reeves Day surgery in Tallaght on Jan 28th. Spent the week in bed feeling sorry for myself and then back to work the following Tuesday. Staff and facilities in reeves were fantastic. Went under general and woke up an hour later all sorted.

Sensitivity was my main concern as I had it done for fairly acute phimosis. First few days are a bit gnarly then all of a sudden desensitisation happened rapidly for me. Still there obviously but no discomfort moving around or wearing jocks.

I left it too long to get checked, same as everyone does. Any lurkers out there that haven't taken the plunge and talked to the GP, just go for it. I was waiting over a year to see a consultant on the public waiting list!

tacking another one on to this mahusive thread. I have mine scheduled for next week. I think at some stage I had phimosis. After several small tears in my frenulum during sex I think the phimosis is now gone or very minor. My frenulum seems a little tight when Im full mast and so I went to see the urologist and he recommended a full circ. After some research I'm now a bit nervous that actually a frenuloplasty might be the way to go. And so I called my urologists office and told them as much and they said the surgeon will have another look and I can decide on the day if I want a full circ or frenuloplasty.

I am now very nervous about having to make this decision on the spot with the surgeon. I am concerned that any work on the frenulum is where you can loose the most sensation. I think a full circ might be the best option IF it also extends the frenulum to give me a bit more room.

I'm not looking for medical advice but would love to hear from anyone who got a full circ to address a tight frenulum.

Bit of a strange update. Went into have the procedure this morning. Met the urologist before hand and he had another look. Told me that I don't have any frenulum left to separate and so couldn't be a frenuloplasty.

The strange part was that he told me a circumcision wouldn't help with tears on the part of my penis where the frenulum used to be. He seemed to be under the impression that the tears were on my foreskin. Pretty sure I told him my frenulum. I remember calling it my banjo string in the consultation and being embarrassed. So with that he recommended I don't go ahead with the circumcision.

The tears are pretty rare, it would be nice to not have to worry about them but I can take precautions like extra lubricant. Its a little tight in that spot when I'm full mast but sounds like a circ may not solve that.

I guess it's nice I don't have to worry about being out of action for a few weeks. Still processing all the extra information I got on this.

The worries are that the tear hardens the skin and you end up with full blown phimosis. Same thing happened to me, no idea HOW it happened but my skin hardened and i could barely pee without sitting down for fear of spraying everywhere. I would suggest you go ahead and get the circumcision anyway, but im not a doctor
