Look at all that snow in the Irish sea, that has to be serious snowfall for some.

A lady on my FB has a picture up of her garden. One side including a car is full of snow. The car beside it and the other half if the garden is clear. LOL
    In Dublin11

It looks to me like a few hours of continuous light/moderate snow for Wicklow/Dublin/Meath/Kildare/Louth with some heavier bursts in places aided by convection and some heavy continuous snow in places aided by orographic lift, some spots with the double whammy may reach about 30cms.

The radar coverage for Ireland is highly ambiguous. Met.ie radar is terrible for the far NW and SE due to range and terrain (Blackstairs mountains impede the Shannon radar for example), and all the other sites are terrible for Dublin because they don't seem to use Dublin radar data at all.

Exact same situation here in D14- Just came out of town about an hour Ago, paths were very messy with a 1cm covering in most places. Drifting is evident here in D14, 4-5 cm in parts and almost bare surfaces literally a foot away. Really powdery stuff, similar to an alpine resort in mid winter, well a taste of it anyway.

Thanks for the explanation Rougies, it was the same in the last event..can't believe we are seeing two snow events so close together here..

Woken up to a small covering of snow in dublin 5. A winter to remember, particularly given my location so close to the coast

It's a complicated messy situation with these background trends -- heavier snow is likely to develop south of Dublin mostly around coastal counties but with some patchy hit or miss accumulations inland southeast too. Then while that snow is moving southwest mid-day, heavier streamer bands will once again develop and move inland either north of Dublin or through Dublin and this activity will also move southwest.

I think the most likely range of further accumulations is generally 7 to 12 cms with local 20 cm potential, but some coastal falls may be tainted with freezing drizzle or sleet.

Nothing is going to be too well organized in this cluster of snowfall areas rotating around an upper low that is sliding southwest today. It's very probable that no obvious themes will be found in the reports we get, with some talking about significant snow and a few miles away it could be patchy light snow or brief clearing.

Winds are also likely to be more moderate than strong but would also expect variations from location to location and hour to hour as ripples of energy develop then fade out.

Some will think they have had quite a wintry blast and others will be saying that it missed their locale (not meaning the far west where this was expected).

Around mid-day the south coast snow may start to push as far west as Kerry and south Limerick, but it does not appear likely that Clare, most of Galway or Mayo will see very much if any snow.

There may be occasional light to moderate streamer snow tonight and first half of Monday but it will tend to diminish steadily to extinction by late Monday. The emphasis will be increasingly on bitter cold overnight lows by Monday and Tuesday.

    Good morning everyone,

St.Patrick mixed up his colours and brought us white instead of green last night :

Just measured 6cm outside my front door here in Hollywood co.Wicklow and we are under constant heavy powdery shower, if the intensity keeps going another few hours we may get to 10cm which is very good going.

A truly memorable march which has surpassed 2013 re.snowfall with ease.

    Cheers

    Jules

6 am depth reports. Just 1 cm at Casement and Dublin airports. 12-hr liquid precip reports 0.4 mm for Dublin and a rounded 1 mm for Casement.

About 1-2 cm here in Celbridge. Not quite covering the blades of grass. Drifts at walls, etc. about 4-5 cm.

Decent burst of snow now in Dublin 16. -0.8c atm.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,473 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Continuous moderate to heavy snow on the northside of Dublin. Drifting makes visibility very poor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭John.Icy

Absolute bare minimum dusting here in D9. Around 70% ground coverage.

A howler of an event here sadly. Snow must have been passing a km to my North it seems!

Enjoy those who are getting anything decent.
