Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I overpaid 4K last year and I expect the same this year. Big part of the sum is aggregation relief. And yes you are right, I don't need the money but the fact that they are telling us porkies when we call them (I called 3 times and heard 3 different excuses for the delay) is the frustrating part. Last year I received my refunds in June. (Applied Mid Feb)

Not that I need to clarify BUT I was made redundant last July and have an overpayment of tax of almost €2k. I have medical expenses refund of €900 on top of that for private health care for my son that is not covered by our VHI. As I am not working at present and we are still paying almost €100 per week on healthcare for my 16 yearold son. Yes I do need my refund ASAP.

    Sorry to hear that.

Probably not much use to you or anyone else whose overpayments arise from similar circumstances, but you can claim back tax in-year when you’re made unemployed during the year. https://www.revenue.ie/en/jobs-and-pensions/periods-of-unemployment/index.aspx

Phoned Revenue today and spoke with someone who was very knowledgable - however I don't think they understood my query in its entirety as I'm pretty poor at explaining things.

As a result I'm hoping that they haven't transferred my MyEnquiries to themselves as I reckon I could be in for another bill, another MyEnquiries submission and another long wait.

Will have to phone back tomorrow to hopefully see that it hasn't happened. Fingers crossed.

That said - Apparently all MyEnquiries submissions from early January should be tackled in the coming four days.

From what I've been told anyway.

Problem is that they are saying the same for weeks.

Anyone got anything today? I have 0 again

    Still nothing here.

    Yellow dot anyone?

    I contacted them yesterday.
They told me the problem was because I was paid every 2 weeks, and that their system wasn't able to deal with that yet. They have some engineering team trying to come up with a fix.

I don't believe it for a minute though as surely it doesn't matter if I got paid hourly weekly or yearly. Its total amount paid and total tax paid over 2019 that matters/

You were told that to get you off the phone.
No-one who answers the revenue phone lines knows what the issue is, or how long it will take to resolve.

It’s pointless ringing them about this matter. It was the same in DEASP Illness Benefit section nearly 2 years ago when they switched to a new system. It just didn’t work and still doesn’t work properly because there was no proper preparation, it just went live and to hell with the consequences.

Revenue are having to process rebates way earlier than previous years because of the new systems.
Revenue don't usually pay out ,they collect money.
I think this may just be a classic cash flow issue as the system is working perfectly if you are "not" due a rebate.

:D, so they're delaying refunds because they can't afford to pay them all in one go.

Just got my statement(inputed 29 Jan)
Prelim tax ignored so rebate of 2k has turned into a bill of 3k?

Still no joy for me either. I resubmitted early feb and still haven't heard back. Although I can't amend mine anymore and it says I have to wait for the SOL to come so I guess that might be some progress.

Just to follow up on this. Still haven't got an SOL or anything yet but for some reason I'm allowed to amend my tax return again. It used to tell me I can't edit it as a return is being looked at and I have to wait until my SOL comes but now it says:

"To help you amend your return we have included certain important information from your Revenue record. This information may have been received since you filed your Income Tax Return."

And if I click okay on that it lets me edit the whole thing again just like when I filled out my first return (as in before I resubmitted). So basically I don't know if I'm back at square one or not. Anyone else have this happen at any point?

What are you talking about preliminary tax? This thread is about Statements of Liability for PAYE taxpayers, preliminary tax has nothing to do with it... are you in the self-assessment system and talking about an income tax assessment?

This is the response i received today in My Enquires .

The non resident aggregation relief has been added to you account however it is not being reflected on the Statement of Liability.

Once this is fixed the updated Statement will issue to you.

Apologies for the delays to you.

I submitted mine the 7th of January, today was my fourth phone call. I’ve been fobbed off on every previous occasion.
I stumbled upon this thread at the weekend trying to figure out what the delay was. The guy on the phone wasn’t inclined to be helpful at first, used the high volume excuse. When I told him I’ve read every excuse going from this thread he actually looked into it.
So he gave me the week 53 excuse, he says he changed something and mine should be ok now. He also told me I’m looking at a rebate of about 2,7k which is in and around what I expected, and it should be sorted within a week. Hope this helps

    I had submitted 2017, 2018 and 2019 4 weeks ago.
    Got 2017 and 2018 within 4 days

2019 had stalled but thankfully appeared last night.

Had rang a few times , but that didn't seem to have any impact.

Not as much as I thought, but every little helps!

I called them again this morning and was told that the technical issue is still there and that no one knows when it's going to be fixed. He also said that it could be weeks, could be months before they fix this. I don't know what to do now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭Roddylarge

Mine is also there this morning, nice little refund.

Submitted on the 2nd of January and still absolutely nothing. I’m owed a substantial amount too! Have called several times and been fobbed off every single time. Is there anything anyone else found sped up the process I’m at my wits end here!

  • Registered Users Posts: 831 ✭✭✭rsl1976

I was told on Monday that if a SOL had previously issued for 2019 that that is causing the issue. However we haven't had 1 issue at all so that can't be right

They told me the same last week but when I told them about this lovely thread they changed their excuse and told me other stories.

The people who answer the phones have no idea about what's happening. however, they do have a list of excuses and they will give you one just to keep you happy.

How long after receiving statement does money go into account?

Mine was issued for 2018 on Thursday 30 January and the money was in my account on Tuesday 4th February.. 3-5 days could vary slightly depending on your bank

I begged for that but was told that there's nothing they can do. Maybe weeks, maybe months that's what he kept telling me.

just had a quick call with the folls in revenue. Similar story. They've been told that there is an underlying technical issue with no further details. After a little pushing, they coudl tell me that my return had moved to a point of waiting a manual approval with a case worker (or something to that effect).... which means (allegedly) that it's further on in the process, and that it may be worth calling back in a week :( to check what that 'approval status' is. They were very clear that they had nothing to do with IT, workflow or an other group in there. They just answered the phones.....

As to my understanding; if you don't owe any money to government or if you are not asking for tax return then yours will get approved quickly (or automatically?). But if you have things like, social welfare or tax credit (that you are due bcs of your SO etc.) or health/insurance expenses which Revenue has to pay you back, then it has to go thru manual approval. Which they will double check that it "all looks good".

Probably they are under stuffed with the mix of technical issues that it takes so long time. I am waiting for over a month already and I resubmitted mine. When I called them and had to wait on the line for 15 minutes, I have been brushed off by saying "it's waiting approval".

There is X amount of people manually inspecting tax returns of whole country, which is causing the bottleneck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,685 ✭✭✭✭wonski

Not true. Mine waa automatically approved over the weekend and received the refund today.

I think most of the issues are having those who filled in forms in early January and probably those with large health expenses.

Mine and few others I know were processed as in previous years quickly and hassle free.

It is unfair if one applied in January and still waiting, though.

im wondering, If you owe an amount, I understand you can pay it back up to 4 years, but can you agree on a settlement (of lesser value) if you can pay it back at once?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16 schlep

Still waiting since 6 January. Anyone else still waiting that long?

They spread the underpayment over the following year

Is it possible to go to the public counter at the Revenue Offices in Cork or Waterford?

I'm being pushed from pillar to post on the telephone service and, although I understand my query is difficult to understand, I feel I'm being left at the bottom of the pile. Six weeks after I sent the original MyEnquiries.
