Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i wouldnt be without mine (ring pro), it failed and they sent me a replacement during the 18 months ive had it. i find it reliable and quick but you need strong wifi

I can get 3/3 bars on my 2.4G wifi and 2/3 bar on my 5G wifi on my phone at the proposed door bell location. Which would be better in your experience?

Nearly two years since the thread was started, how are people feeling about these long term?

Is the motion detection and phone notification reliable and quick? I'm tempted by the Ring 2 as I don't have an existing wired doorbell for the pro.

It's great, saved my neck a few times, plus interesting to see who is snooping around.

Major complaint for me is the battery life though, unless my doorbell battery is faulty.

2.4g, you dont really need the speed more the reliability.

What are you looking at here? I see the Ring 2 has a removable battery pack and you can buy and extra one for around 20 quid so you can just have them rotating if it's a big problem.

Have a Ring Pro for certainly the past 6+ months and find it very useful. You can configure the sensitivity, which I've done, to restrict what alerts you get. On maximum sensitivity I was getting alerts for birds/cats walking past the door etc.

I generally have restricted my usage to two mains uses. Answering the door remotely if I'm not at home and works just fine, alerts are pretty quick. I also have a look at recorded motion at unusual times... let's say I know if the milkman has been when I check my phone in the morning before I get out of bed :)

    Would recommend

I've a Ring 1, don't think the battery is changeable?

No I think only the Ring 2 has the removable battery.

Installed Ring Pro yesterday, very quick process. Only negative so far is cant disable night mode, front of house is lit from street lights but still night mode (IR) comes on and I believe I actually see less. Plus, its hitting number plates and a wall causing hot spots.

Put some black electrical tape over the IR leds and its much better now although not as sleek looking!

Is it not possible to switch off the IR LEDs or night mode?

Most IP cameras like these have an option to turn them off and leave them off. At least that is the case for both my Yi cameras and Logitech Circle ones.

Unfortunately not. I have submitted a feature request for it.

    Feature requests open for...
    - option to disable night mode
    - option to disable IR LED's
    - option to schedule when to chime or not (eg when kids sleeping)

Unfortunately they wouldn't share the Jira/Git/ticket numbers so others could reference it :(

I wouldn't recommend trying to DIY replacement of the transformer on the fuseboard. Personally a friend of mine is an electrician and he did it for me

I did mine myself , very simple . Just disable mains power to board first .

spotted this over on the /r/ring subreddit.

Looks like lots of cool stuff coming in 2019. I was involved the beta for live tiles and the timeline scrubbing and it was pretty cool!

How did you do that ? Beta tester also ?

I enrolled for the beta testing yes but it seems to be an opt in/opt out programme I believe? i.e. as each project comes along you can do so. Is this option not available in everyones app?

You should see "New Features" at the bottom and you can choose to enable them. They're not enabled by default

I’ve looked through the last few pages but can’t see an answer on this... I’m trying to set up a “protection plan” to enable recording of video. I can’t get past the address input page - every zip code I enter fails to authenticate. Customer service have suggested a few modified/pretend zip codes but nothing is working... Any suggestions? TIA.

Personally I have a Ring Pro for the past year and a half or so and find it great. Ring Pro was on offer during Black Friday sales week for £150. Ring Pro is wired no hassle with batteries, it's also a bit smaller.... still bigger than a traditional bell. I can't really compare Ring Pro against other versions as I haven't had either. A number of neighbours have seen and I've shown them the Pro and they've also purchased and installed. My neighbor also got the Ring Spotlight Cam wired in his back garden and speaks highly of it.

We have frequently spoken to delivery drivers etc remotely when they've rang the bell regarding dropping packages off also. Some great integration possibilities with the likes of IFTTT and Stringify to other smart home devices.

Have seen people say the unit heats as it's designed for American voltage, has anyone seen this or is it a myth.
This is the one thing putting me of getting one

I can't see how that could be - the unit works with voltages between 16 and 24V AC. That doesn't change between here and the US.

Edit: just to be clear, the unit does not work at mains voltage so it's not a case of 110V vs 230V.

As ethernet mentioned... there is a transformer that goes into your fuse board that converts to the right voltage and that's what powers the unit itself.

I have a Ring Pro for about a year or two and not a single issue. 100% recommend and a few of my neighbors loved it and a few of them have installed also.

Is it advisable to get a spark install this or could it be done with a modicum of knowledge and a lot of luck?

Got a deal from Curry's UK which included the chime and echo spot for £149

Personally I got a sparks to do it, mate of mine. I'd have some basic electrical knowledge but personally wouldn't go near fuse board stuff. Depends on your level of comfort ultimately.... too much to risk for the sake of a once off couple of quid

Sorry to go off topic, but does anyone know how to get around the “zip code” when adding a credit card to purchase a protection plan?

I’ve tried both 00000 and my eircode but neither work, I’m using a revolut card if that makes a difference?

    Thanks

This is an old thread I know, but I felt this information is important enough to post in the thread.

    https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/ring-video-doorbell-security-flaw-hack/
A security flaw leaves Ring doorbells and cameras vulnerable to spying

When you connect a smart security device to your home network, you assume that it’s helping to keep you safe. Unfortunately, for some owners, it may be exposing them in a different way. Security researchers at Internet of Things security firm Dojo by BullGuard took to the stage at Mobile World Congress to hack an Amazon Ring video doorbell in real time. The successful exploit took advantage of a security vulnerability that could leave audio and video transmissions exposed to third-party attackers.
If you are a Ring owner, you don’t need to panic too much about the hack. Amazon has been made aware of the issue and has issued an update to its Ring app to address the vulnerability. If you keep your app up to date, you should be protected from this particular attack.

    This isn't a hack
The attack is a bit of a complicated one, but it works like this: An attacker gains access to a person’s Wi-Fi network, either by guessing the password, cracking the encryption, or exploiting another smart home device connected to the same network.

Saying that I've mine on a separate Vlan with a few other devices, a Netatmo thermostat and my Zoneminder NVR. I'm seriously considering changing my Ring for a Dbell so I can add it to Zoneminder for facial recognition as I already have an event server and object detection.

Anyone know if the Pro works with Google home, specifically will it send video from the pro doorbell to a Google home hub?

Tried looking on boards and elsewhere but can't find a clear answer.

Nest is v pricey compared to Ring...

why don't you get an Arlo for same price as a ring pro. You have 3 wireless cameras. Down side is buying batteries but you get 2-3months out of batteries. Always can buy rechargable.

    Thanks.

Picked up a Nest hello at 20% off last week in Harvey Norman so €233 odd, was wondering if I should return and go with the cheaper Ring product.

Given our house is all Google home, minis, hubs and hue will pay the extra and stick with the Nest.

Found something online earlier today saying Ring is compatible with Google home but in reality its VERY limited (pretty much useless by the sounds)

    Thanks lads.

Ring was bought by Amazon. There is full support for Amazon home assistant products and no support for Google ones. This will most likely change now that Amazon and Google have kissed and made up.

My Ring 2 doorbell finally gave up the ghost back in March of this year

I got it in December 2017 and its worked fine until March when I had a powercut and the Ring doorbell didn't power back on afterwards,

I tried fully charging the battery again and resetting it didn't resolve but Amazon replaced the entire thing so at least I wasn't out of pocket

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,061 ✭✭✭Uriel.

Have the video door bell 2 for almost two years now, but I've never been more delighted to have it as the last couple of weeks with all of the election candidates calling. It is great I haven't had to talk to any of them

I got very good help from Google when setting up my nest hello camera in Dublin.

I'd the first ring camera too. Before Amazon owned them had to get it in the states.

Didn't really have an issue with either but I found that the hello camera is rocket fast. Sometimes the ring was slow to work.

Ring has better doorbell interface imo. But I prefer the hello overall.

That said mine was the oldest model and I've a full 24 V at the hello

Casting to my Android TV is fantastic on the hello.

I think it is much of a muchness between them but I wouldn't let lack of support stop me getting the nest one. They were fantastic with me, they knew it wasn't supported, told me as much but helped me anyway.

I'd an issue with the nest smoke detectors and the cameras during set up that I needed help with.

Try to get it on sale in the states.

There's no PSU and it's just 24 Volts.

I got mine in best buy, with a free home mini for a great price.

My Ring doorbell has always had spotty wifi coverage, even though the router is located approx 15 feet away from it in the living room by the front window.

I picked up a Netgear wifi range extender recently and stuck it beside the front door and its working better then ever, response is far better now for activating it etc

Well worth the 15e it cost me :)

As already mentioned, the Pro 2 doesn't need any. Its extremely straight forward to install due to this

I initially had the issue where it didn't like the fact that I had 2x APs with the same SSID so after chatting with their techs (they knew about the issue) I created a virtual AP with a different name on the AP nearest the door and connected to that. This was 2 years ago, it's been flawless since

Does anyone know how to bypass this internal doorbell? Unfortunately it's not labeled (see attached)
