Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not new channels but new owners - Sony UK have sold out to something called Narrative Capital.

    https://variety.com/2021/tv/global/sony-channels-uk-sold-narrative-1234972645/
The Sony-labeled channels will be rebranded, with a new look unveiled on May 25, and all brands will sit under the Narrative Entertainment banner. However, the content offering, which includes everything from “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” to the Care Bears and “Blade Runner 2049,” won’t change, as Sony will continue as a licensing and distribution partner for Narrative.
Eventually, Narrative entertains the prospect of original content across the movies and entertainment offerings. But for the moment, says Levin, “it’s about broadening the existing reach through new digital platforms and greater investment around content.

Narrative Capital, LP operates as a private equity firm. The Firm provides debt and equity capital to sophisticated owners of high-quality transitional commercial real estate assets. Narrative Capital also offers mortgage and mezzanine loans throughout the United States.

It all depends on how will they monetise the purchase to get a return for the shareholders. At best this will be neutral :(

In the long term I think FTA might lose those channels. :(

Great/Not so Great Movies would be a more honest branding

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

They could call Sony Movies "Great" and Sony Classic Movies "Super"

And Sony Action "11 minutes late due to leaves on the line"

They now have an animated slate and music but with the tone still in the background and the GMT clock.
Agreed @dulpit not very encouraging start.

EDIT: perhaps the GMT is a political statement in itself :)

It's like everything else. YOU are the product. Samsung (and Sky and YouTube and and and ) will monitor your choices just like they monitor your voice commands etc

Edit. Back at my TV, and ITV2 had gone missing! Now retuned using your frequency, thanks again

GB News now on Sky EPG 515, in place for its launch on June 13th!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,526 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Sky News will have a new refreshed look to be launched from 7am tomorrow. TVLive on Twitter have reported in the comments that the new look will feature new graphics & theme music for all of it's programmes. Now whether or not this is a further move to go HD only on FTA Satellite in future is anyone's guess.

Sky News has had a commercial monopoly since 1989. It's about time there was some competition in the commercial news market. It's going kick-off advertisement price war.

If you mean 24/7 news then perhaps but the UK has several commercial channels offering news.

They also do the news for Channel 4 and Channel 5 , similar to how RTE do the news for TG4.

So there aren't as many TV news sources as some might think. Also that the presentation varies according to the target audience.

I had a look at Harry Ward's twitter account today. It had an potentially interesting view to the future of Sky News which has added something resembling a Sky News UHD logo in the top left of it's new graphics package. It's in the 2nd image of the Twitter thread linked below.

I totally agree. I can see the peasants ( presenters ) revolting against the gallery staff. Sack the lot.
I think GB News is using C News Channel France. As their model. With a much brighter studio.

The people at GB News hate elitist experts so much they’ve apparently chosen not to hire any technicians.
