Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Just to be clear, the "City Council" and "Council members" are 2 completely different branches of the same entity, each with their own priorities.

City Council - enforces planning regs, responsible for the running of the city services

Council members - must get re-elected to remain relevant so all activities and actions will be governed by this goal without shame

So, Council members saying "well done, fair play" means literally nothing in the context of breaches of planning regulations. It is only being done to curry favour and possibly get exposure

He said "member of the council" so not sure what side that falls into.
They Council are happy enough to ignore regulations from time to time (I believe all those branding facades on buildings in the city centre are in breach) but I'll leave it to others with more interest to argue that kind of thing. A local guy trying to run a successful business employing a fair chunk of people in extraordinary times. The Council should be doing whatever they can to support. Particularly when the national government is encouraging just such endeavors.

I'm all for trying to make the best of a bad situation, however breaking the rules is not the way to go about it, unless of course, you want businesses breaking planning regs like Pat McDonagh & Supermacs who have been taken to task by councils all over the country for flouting of rules and erecting signage all over the shop

Blackrock coffee van operating in regular spot today. Maybe they got something sorted or just said feck it with the sun out? Also coffee dock at Galway Bay Hotel looked like a nice spot, front garden of hotel connected to Circle of Life by a walkway, plenty of standing only tables, menu clearly posted, looked to be doing a fair trade.

They're appealing that decision so maybe they can stay open during the appeal process.

That Galway Bay coffee place opens at 7.30am - great for an early morning coffee on the prom.

Hardly the same thing. One is a good faith effort to keep a business profitable in crazy times and the other is a flaunting of regulations to squeeze out some extra advertising.
It would be good to see the council making the effort to support local businesses through this even if it involves temporarily ignoring regulations.

Why do you think that Pat McObesity wants to squeeze out extra advertising? Could it be that his local businesses are competing for custom against multi-national chains with huge advertising budgets.

Many many businesses have "no takeaway sales" clauses in their planning permissions. The council is (rightly) ignoring all of these breaches.

Fit out is pretty close to finished (construction is closed my arse).

I reckon they'll open soon enough, maybe when the restrictions next lift a bit.

That's great! It's a bigger place than they currently have I think. Not the kind of shop I go into much but nice guys and I'm glad they're doing well.

I've seen jobs advertised for Heatons which they also own and would fit the layout of the centre.

Closed first last March when almost everything did.

Reopened again in summer, but didn't last long, maybe a few months. Pretty sure I still got coffee there when it was takeaway only in October.

Most definitely not empty for 20 months.

    Really?

You totally missed that Galway Roast moved in and out of the site, twice, since.

Specsavers have branches in Eyre Square and the Galway Shopping Centre.
