outside of Thurles O'Moore Park would certainly be the most ideally located venue but I notice Laois and Wexford are playing in Leinster senior football that day [throw in time not announced yet]

Ah right. Leinster GAA have it listed as Wexford v Laois so I thought Laois were away but it's just a typo.

Season ticket holders; has your league final ticket appeared in the "redeem" section yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 533 ✭✭✭C4000

Yep, they are there.....fully reserved seating in the North stand

  • Registered Users Posts: 533 ✭✭✭C4000

Good u20 match last night.....Limerick wouldn't have been happy to let a 3 point lead slip in the last two minutes of injury time. Just weren't able to win/hold on to possession in the last crucial plays. Excellent point at the end from Clare to draw the match.

Patrick O'Donovan was outstanding in the game, and Ethan Hurley caught the eye also. Crotty is a serious hurler on the Clare side and carried the fight to Limerick at a crucial stage of the game.

  • Ya I thought Clare deserved the draw. I was a bit disappointed with the Limerick team given there was 6 or 7 available from the team last year. O'Donovan has savage accuracy. Shane OBrien, who i think is a serious talent was relatively quiet. English, apart from the rapid 1-1 was quiet enough too

For anyone in South/West Limerick Charleville is very handy with many trains and similarily Limerick Junction for East Limerick.

On a different note many counties like Kerry have supporters clubs who run buses to matchs league games in particular , probably room for that in Limerick , couple of supporters club buses to Wexford, Galway etc and a league final in cork be filled easy enough youd think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 110 ✭✭Greasy Paw

Well Kenneallys in NCW run buses to every game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Irish Rail added a special train today. Direct to and from Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,311 ✭✭✭Quitelife

Pairc Ui Chaoimh will only have the 2 stands open for league final which is fine as the two stands hold 21,000.

For those Limerick Behind the goals jersey wearing Limerick fans , Limerick's supporters will be buying seats together towards the back of section 410 of the North Stand in PUC for league final . Student tickets 20- juvenile 5 , adult 25

I'm thinking of going to the league final Limerick vs kilkenny in pairc Ui chaoimh next week. Have you any tips for getting to and from the train station to pairc ui chaoimh. Don't fancy doing a lot of walking before or after the game..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,117 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

its the worst located stadium in the country , getting their is fine , but its built in a cull de sac , traffic after the game is going to be congested for at least 30 minutes so even if you get a buss you will be stuck in traffic . if you walk it could take 40 plus minutes to get back to kent station , if only they had a bridge across the lee you would be at kent in 5 minutes other wise

its so badly organized its not funny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

They should reopen the ferry at Ferrybank 😁

There needs to be park & ride and train & ride to the stadium and don't let any cars on the bus route. It won't solve everything but will help.

PUC website says parking in Cork Con and Blackrock GAA will be open on day

  • Registered Users Posts: 822 ✭✭✭lim4ev

I was there in the 80s when the boat was sinking in front of my eyes. even had they put in a pedestrian bridge to the silver springs side it would have helped

  • Registered Users Posts: 110 ✭✭Greasy Paw

If you come in under the Tunnell. by car, and work your way up to the Blackrock area there will be plenty parking space as the ground will be hardly half full.

Sense a bit of apathy amongst Limerick supporters for League Final, are Limerick supporters spoilt at this stage?

I'll wait for the championship, cork is an awkard drive, its Easter Sunday some of the excuses been trotted out. Be still far more Limerick than Kilkenny there i'm sure. All pundits seem to have Limerick winning Sunday , be interesting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The trains and then the special train seemed to fill up pretty fast and a large amount of the tickets went fast.

There's no more apathy than normal for the league.

Anyone who thinks Cork is an awkward drive from Limerick is spoiled and not in the sense of trophies. Every single game league and championship is an awkward drive for some counties.

  • Registered Users Posts: 822 ✭✭✭lim4ev

how many people do you guess will be there? did you say there was 20k sold last week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I said it's 20k seats and looking at it now it's only the corners left so not far off that figure.

Team named for Sunday. Think this is what Kiely considers his strongest available team at this point.

First time in a long time that one of the established starters has lost out to a player that has come through from underage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

Tom and Mike are probably some of the form players of the league. Probably just a case of keeping them on their toes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Hard to know with a league team. Very strong team wether it's the championship one or not.

LIMERICK: Nickie Quaid; Sean Finn, Dan Morrissey, Barry Nash; Diarmaid Byrnes, Declan Hannon, Kyle Hayes; Darragh O'Donovan, Barry Murphy; Gearoid Hegarty, Cian Lynch, Cathal O'Neill; Aaron Gillane, Seamus Flanagan, Peter Casey.

SUBS: David McCarthy, Conor Boylan, Mike Casey, Ronan Connolly, Colin Coughlan, Adam English, Richie English, Tom Morrissey, Shane O'Brien, Aidan O'Connor, Donnacha Ó Dálaigh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,966 ✭✭✭billyhead

No Michael Houlihan. I thought he did well in the league when playing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

I think that's 13 of your strongest team on Sunday, obviously WOD back in and Tom Morrissey starts every day of the week for me, toss up between O'Neill and Flanagan for the last forward spot although i don't know who plays in the FF line if Hegarty, Lynch, O'Neill and T Morrissey all start.

  • Registered Users Posts: 224 ✭✭LMK

Anyone know what is the situation with David Reidy and Graeme Mulcahy? lots of young guns on the bench

  • Registered Users Posts: 533 ✭✭✭C4000

Tom Morrissey looked sharp in the games he played, but Cathal O'Neill has performed well enough to make it a difficult decision. I think he's there on merit and if he plays well Sunday I'd see him retaining the position for championship.

  • Registered Users Posts: 533 ✭✭✭C4000

Not sure Flanagan and O'Neill are competing for the same position. O'Neill couldn't play that inside roll that Flanagan and Gillane are so good at. Think it's O'Neill or Morrissey for the wing forward spot.....Great problem to have

  • Registered Users Posts: 533 ✭✭✭C4000

Both on the come back from injury. I'd say O'Dalaigh will see decent game time over the next few weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

From my view point O'Donovan, O'Donoghue, Hegarty, Lynch, T Morrissey, Gillane & P Casey are non negotiables in terms of starting so only leaves 1 spot for front 8 positions, 1-7 picked for Sunday is your strongest in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Ide have Casey over Morrissey in the backs but it's very very fine margins as to who is the better of the two.

  • Registered Users Posts: 452 ✭✭letsseehere14

Morrissey, Hegarty and Lynch start every day if available, it's not even up for debate. I think Morrissey has started every championship game for kiely since the start of 2018 plus he's been our best player this year.

Our FF line is the one that has competition. Flanagan has been so so. Casey only getting going. Gillane with just 1 game. Mulcahy near the end now.

To make space for the likes of an O'Neill or O'Dalaigh you're probably dropping Flanagan now or Gillane performance depending or moving Lynch back to midfield.

Minimum 7 of 8, Byrnes Hannon Hayes O'Donovan O'Donoghue Morrissey Lynch Hegarty will start every round robin championship game this year. All 8 start a Munster final or All Ireland semi or final. We can live with losing 2 of that 8 easily aswell and cope.

It's the FB and FF lines that have spaces available.

God knows what happens if Quaid gets injured. Pivotal to us, our quick resets and restarts. Laser puckouts. McCarthy named as 16. Havnt seen him since Cork where he was underwhelming but deserving of more time. Very little time given to backup gks considering Hennessey retired.

  • Registered Users Posts: 822 ✭✭✭lim4ev

I agree totally on quaid, I'd go as far as saying he's irreplaceable, with the exception of possibly hannon everyone else is replaceable. not that we want any injuries.

strong kk team named I've no doubt they're the biggest threat this yr

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Yep losing Quaid would involve a big rethink to how we play.

As for outfield player we managed to do it without Cian Lynch last year. He would be irreplaceable on 99% of teams.

If ever there was proof needed how much TJ Reid is carrying that KK team today was it.I said it after last years final if he wasn't there the score would have been similar to today.

Can't believe how some here think Kilkenny are Limerick's closest challengers. Relying on aging players for inspiration and nothing coming through from the underage ranks. Shame on Dublin and Wexford for not being able to push them harder in Leinster.

  • Registered Users Posts: 159 ✭✭rjoe90

Comfortable victory, really good league for Limerick who blooded a lot of players who can contribute come championship. Good to see O Dalaigh and O Brien get minutes who you would expect to play championship.

  • Amazing how one match has turned the kilkenny page into a graveyard. Drop 9 players, get rid of Lyng, Cody is at fault etc. They had a bad day at the office for them end of.

I thought our lads did well. They certainly had to deal with alot of high awkward challenges.

Considering the wastlefulness of the forwards, they could have been beaten Kilkenny a far sight more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,117 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

our game in the football clashed so didnt see it , i imagine they will be stronger come the latter part of the championship , they in my opinion would be the closest to ye in fairness

  • Great win for Clare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,097 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

That's a huge win for Clare or less likely Limerick. Winner I believe is in Sam at the expense of Kildare (as it stands)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,145 ✭✭✭Rosita

Yeah, there has been strange stuff from Kilkenny such as constant assertions that Richie Hogan needs to come back when his day is done. They are in a dilemma with Walter Walsh and TJ Reid in that both, for ball winning capacity (albeit neither will trouble the scoreboard too much), are probably better than what they have but are at the end of their days too. If they go without them they are weaker in the short run, go with them and they are weaker in the long run. Padraig Walsh is finished as well.

The positive from their perspective is that they are nearly guaranteed qualification through Leinster, and you wouldn't put a farthing on Galway beating them in the Leinster final based on recent experience. They could end up in an All Ireland final again without needing to be the "second best" team. But in a way that's also a negative as it perpetuates high expectations and encourages the manager to defer confronting the difficult transition ahead.

But you are correct that the idea that they are Limerick's closest challengers is not based on reality and is probably heavily influenced by the fact that they managed to come out of an All Ireland final which they never led with honour intact. If Brian Cody looked at that match as a genuine sign of how close they were to Limerick he'd have stayed on for another year to win another title. Instead I think he left knowing that this would be as good as his exit was likely to be.

They have pinned their hopes on a manager with a very limited CV who was fortunate enough to win a single All Ireland under-20 title. And Shefflin has shown little enough with Galway to imply that he is a tactical genius waiting to return.

Kilkenny are firmly in the pack, with every sign that all the strong counties are at least as good as them. Even an in decline Wexford could beat them if they are willing to wire into them in Wexford Park. Dublin cannot be trusted to deliver a consistent enough performance. They seem to find a variety of ways to lose to Kilkenny. Difficult to see how they will get the hardness of attitude to beat Kilkenny rather than being honoured to play them. But today was poor. Limerick's League semi-final was a far more intense affair for long periods. Kilkenny are vulnerable against many opponents at this point and in no way an obvious second best team. It's a reality that will take many people in many counties time to process but it is a reality.

i heard ye had a pretty deaccent win yourselves , will watch it tomorrow , sounded impressive

today was just only our 5th win in championship v cork

i believe today was only limericks 5th league win

hopefully for both counties its a sign of the future and a positive indicator of bridging gaps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,646 ✭✭✭washman3

Limerick's 14th League title, now level with Cork. Tipp and Kilkenny level on 19.

For what it's worth the only county to win 5 leagues in a row. way back in the 1930's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,117 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yeah sorry id be no good haggling down in and around Denmark st

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,117 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

Thanks bud , great win but remember last year , ye kinda done the grand slam on us , screw treaty united or young Munster it was that bad !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,311 ✭✭✭Quitelife

On yesterdays league final & Tipp in semi final its hard to see anyone beating or getting close to Limerick this year , limericks second 15 would give most counties bags of it .

If Kilkenny hadnt caught Limerick in the All Ireland semi in 2019, Limerick would be going for 6 in a row!
