Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Where are people getting the switching Sims

Eir don't send them when I order, I wonder if they blacklist you after a while

Does anyone here have trouble getting a 4g signal. Mine always shows 2g, 3g or LTE in settings.
    On GOMO network

LTE is 4G, for all intents and purposes. Some network ROMs would should 4G for the signal, others would show LTE.

Like said before, LTE is the same as 4G depending on the rom of your phone, and or the 4G coverage of your area

    https://m.apkpure.com/4g-lte-switch/com.tapbase.LTEswitcher

You can download this apk to force "LTE Only" to get only 4G or in the dialer dial *#*#4646#*#* and select phone - but you may not receive anyway calls if your carrier doesn't support calls over 4G yet.. I think Eir or Vodafone do.

See the Nokia 4.2 for €39.99. Anyone know if it's the 16GB/2GB Ram or 32GB/3GB Ram model?

    Thanks

Last month I ordered two Eir SIMs for myself & my mother before and received them within 3 days. My wife ordered one on Saturday 15th Feb and still hasn't received her SIM. A friend of ours is in the same boat.

At this rate, she'll most likely be going into Eir store and paying 10e for a SIM card.

Told them they could collect, been a week and they are still adamant on me paying for registered postage. That is not going to happen.

After a week they tell me they will compensate me etc but looking at their CS reviews and their twitter page, it wont happen or I will be waiting months.

    So now what....

Sorry bit off topic, so gave them until end of today to collect, full 2 weeks. They sent me message again saying they will log return form on my behalf but still expect me to go to the post office and send them off so back to page one here.

Am I ok to dispose these as I see fit or?

Also from when can storage charges be applied?

I would think you'd have to hold onto them for a year before they're legally yours to do what you like with.

I picked one up in a Vodafone shop.
I had to buy €20 of Vodafone credit on top that I didn't want.
And I had to buy €10 of Eir credit with that sim. So I now have 2 excess sims and €30 credit

Most interesting though the sales guy said there was the possibility of €50 cashback from Google.

Most interesting though the sales guy said there was the possibility of €50 cashback from Google but wasn't clear on how to claim it. There was a mention of it in the Vodafone brochures lying around but just pointing to vodafone.ie.

The sales guy went out back and came back with a written url pointing to pixelcashback.com/vodafone which is not a live link.

Anyone know anything about this cashback? I'll go back to a local vodafone shop and try find the brochure again.

Wow. So net €129 for this phone? Surely this is a steal rather than a bargain!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭groom

Another pleasant surprise is that the phone isn't sim locked. Working away nicely with a GoMo sim.

What options do I have to make some use of the €20 Vodafone and €10 Eir credit?

any OK cases that I can pick up in dublin city centre? just received mine today and hate going caseless :-/

Is this because you bought it in store? I had a free Eir sim and bought this phone for €179 without having to top up anything.

it's mental that this phone is available for €129, assuming you get the €50 cashback. Camera is great on it!

Are the credits already loaded onto the respective SIMs? You could spend the Vodafone credit on things like the Google Play Store etc.

Eir credit isn't so useful unfortunately, best thing IMO is to text donate to charities that tickle your fancy. See http://likecharity.com

I think so yes. I don't think I'd have been forced to buy credit if I did it online. The store assistant said it was necessary.

No I haven't applied them to any account / sim yet.

Would love to know how many of these Vodafone have sold. I picked mine up a couple of weeks before this thread started, so that's over 4 months of a heavily discounted promotion. I don't think Google themselves have dropped any lower than about €350 for it the entire time.

Is you still have the top-up vouchers, you could try selling them here (other folk have done so in the past). I certainly would be interested in the Vodafone voucher anyway.

I uploaded the receipt that was delivered with the phone and a screenshot of the order confirmation email as that also gives the order number and the price.

As I ordered this phone for myself as well as another one for my mother, I shared this deal with a FB group I belong to. Subsequently a number of them also ordered the phone. However, I was surprised to learn one of them reported that she received a phone that was locked to the Vodafone network which appears to have been a rare exception as the rest of us didn't find that to be the case with the phones we received.

Is there anything that can be done other than using a third party to provide an unlocking code?

That link has been posted a few times in this thread but that's the first time I've heard of this phone actually been locked by Vodafone. Strange one.

Is it possible that she was asked to enter a pin code rather than a network unlock code when she turned on the phone and assumed they were the same? When did she buy it?

I got one this morning and it's definitely not locked.

    Fairly nice looking phone

    Thanks OP

After a bit of back and forth with her today, it now transpires that instead of using a dummy number to avail of the €100 discount, she used her actual number with 3... So when the google pixel phone arrived, she inserted her 3 SIM and wasn't getting any network, therefore she arrived at the conclusion there was an issue with the phone and it was locked.

I have explained her number is on the Vodafone network now and she should use the SIM card that came with the phone. And if she wants to go back to 3, it's probably best to go into their store to be on the safe side!

    Thanks for your replies guys.

after using the phone for a few months the camera is obviously quite good but the battery is not so good if you are a more intensive user.

I'd love if the upcoming pixel 4a would go to 4000mah.

But slim chance as google are not a fan of bigger batteries going by their previous efforts
    .

Same. Got the email now saying it's not enough. The despatch note is the only thing I received with the phone - I sent that plus the emailed order confirmation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,666 ✭✭✭Zimmerframe

    "Typical" Irish offer.

It's especially for Vodafone Ireland customers, but they require something that Vodafone Ireland don't give anyone who buys a phone from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭dan786

Sent both dispatch note and the email receipt. Both declined.

What if you create an account using your mobile porting number on Vodafone.
Will it have the invoice to download then?

Just want to say thanks to the OP and all others who posted advice. Followed this thread and ended up getting 2 phones. Had the same trouble as mentioned with a lot of failed orders and a charge but no delivery which I had to go I store to solve. Store staff admitted the interface is terrible and they were getting hassle over it.

Can’t get the additional discount which would have been a phenomenal deal (bought both in feb) but still really happy. Cheapest I saw for it anywhere was just over 300 on the pixel site, currently at 329 now though so almost half price.

    Thanks again OP. :)

I just spoke to Vodafone on Live Chat there about the cashback offer (for longer than I care to admit).

They seemed certain that a screenshot of the confirmation email should have been enough to claim the offer. It took them a while to agree with me that that was not the case as it was not accepted by me nor others and said they had escalated the issue and expect to have it resolved within 24 hours. They could not clarify on how they would resolve it (I asked if they would email everyone who bought a Pixel 3A this month an invoice or if they would contact Google and inform them that they should in fact be accepting the confirmation email but they could not confirm either way).

I will contact them on Live Chat tomorrow if nothing gets resolved by then and keep y'all posted. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭dan786

Replied back to Google saying I dont have anything else, so they just validated the claim.
