Indeed, 18 to start the process, after attending safety classes and passing a test and background check, then only shotguns and airguns for 5 years, after which rifles & handguns(stored at shooting clubs) may be bought!

10 round mag limits for long guns and no moderators for anything.

Worse laws than ours(except CF handguns of course ).

You're obviously just trolling so I won't be engaging with you any further on this ridiculous comment.

But check out the shotguns they can have...All Saiga12s, Molot12s, Typhoons,or even smoothbore former military rifles. Good enough to drop any bears or moose around your Dacha.

Meh...Could be worse...Try Japan... About the same for both hunting and firearms tests and ownership, and you have to bring back your empty shells for a new box of ammo... About the only people in Japanese society who have the patience for all this are Japanese women. They are now the biggest market for hunting kit and firearms in Japan.
    The Japanese lads prefer airsoft...

I think COVID fatigue has really hit home lately. People are getting narky and have very little tolerance for anything that irks them. I'm seeing it in work, at home and on here.

Ehh no. Remember the old slogan of the unionists ? "Home rule is Rome rule". Well it happens they were right. Nothing moved in the free state without the say so of the Catholic church. No matter what it was, housing, education, foreign investment, health, what films were on at the local odeon or what rubbish RTE put on, what they said went.

And we all know by now the catholic church were not the benign, caring organisation they wanted people to think they were.

Actually, you could make a good case for saying that the Irish have never really run their own country.

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration and slightly misleading. Most of the politicians and most of the country would have been Catholic, so it was a case of Irish Catholics implementing Catholic policies.

You think the Irish public would have been in favour of places like the mother and baby homes, Tuam etc ? Places like Letterfrack ? Paedo priests abusing kids left right and centre, and it being covered up by Bishops etc ?

Do you really think the ministers and td's didn't know what was going on for decades ?

The Govt turned a blind eye to what the church did in Ireland, after all, they objurgated their social responsibilities to Rome to look after. Bad enough that they got archbishop Mac Quaid to read the Constitution first before it was enacted under Dev and to make sure the church had its place in the Constitution.

We existed here under a Theocracy posing as a "constitutional republic". So you got felt up by the local priest...Who could you tell? What could you do? No one would believe you or dare speak out on your behalf, and if you persisted you could be assured of a one-way trip to the home for the bewildered.

Russia had its political hospitals where those who were critiquing the Soviet system of govt were considered nuts and were "cured" of their beliefs.
We had the same, except we didn't try and cure anyone.

Travel, as in find some last frontier if there is one left. The Inca trail probably looks like a county colours night! Having said that I would like to go a mite further and see the statues on Easter Island.
