Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Sharvin in at the moment

Hope I am wrong but unrealistic for Sharvin, he needs someone to drop out f the group ahead and no one to pick up shots from behind and with a relatively straightforward finish it is unlikely he'll move up.

    Pressure though.

Squeaky bum time on the last for Moynihan - Currently on the mark

Moynihan bogeys 17. Drops to 16 under, tied for 20th. Sharvin back to Tied for 27th at 15 under.

Good to see Robin Dawson fighting back in round six. 3 over for the day through 8, he has managed 4 birdies in his last 7 holes to go 1 under for the day and 4 under for the event. Not good enough for a European Tour card this week, but I'm sure he will get lots of opportunities to showcase his talents on both European and Challenge tours in 2019.

And breath.....Moynihan will scrap in on the mark.

Great achievement again. Hopefully pushes on a bit more next season.

Moynihan pars 18. Finishes at 16 under. Card secured. Tied-20th

Sharvin 15 under now tied-28th. One shot and 3 places outside the magic 25th card.

Don't forget all the problems that Gavin had with his back this week. Tremendous performance by the Dubliner. Fair play to him.

Will there be a playoff for the 8 players tied 20?

I thought it was only 25 cards? Or do all 8 get cards? Granted some still have to finish

Yes, and Molinari to finish out of the top 5 I think

    Top 6 does Molinari

Didn't see any of the golf yesterday bar a few highlights but the course doesn't look in as good a condition as normal

Tommy in pole position currently, Frankie tied 11th, this could go down to the wire. Might be set for a molliwood contest.

The greens are more "grainy" (per Lowry yesterday in the commentary box) which is impacting the roll of the ball around the hole as there are sudden breaks, they have also put pins where they have never been before.

Perhaps want to turnaround the birdiefest?

Other that that looked grand to me, remember they have also had a bumper Summer and its still hotter than normal over there

I'm delighted for the guy. He's had a tough couple of years but it sounds like he has just worked really hard on his game, and it has paid off. I always felt that the Ryder Cup fiasco (which was very badly handled by Darren Clark IMO) must have been very hard on him. He's a damned good player and it's great to see him back in the top 100.

quite possibly but you probably shouldn't endorse the sentiment if you are a professional golfer. if you like money that is.

His brother is an absolute Moron. I remember an interview he gave at the time. The word moron is probably not strong enough tbh.

Good to see Portrane native Gavin Moynihan playing well once again. Moynihan who just about secured his European Tour card, with a shot to spare in Spain, two weeks ago is in the top 10 in the Mauritius Open in round two. The Dubliner is currently 5 under for the day and 8 under for the tournament through 11 holes. Keep it lit Gavin!

As everyone would be aware, he had a extremely challenging 2018 and only secured his first pay cheque of the year in the unofficial GolfSixes event, where he and Paul Dunne both won E100,000 each for winning the event. He missed the cut in his 1st 14 events of the year. But from June onwards there were signs of an resurgence of form, for the Mount Juliet attached golfer, culminating in a top 10 finish in the Valderrama Masters last month. Hopefully a sign that Gavin has turned the tide in his favour. He is set to conclude his golfing year with two co-sanctioned events in South Africa after this.

Gavin Moynihan has finished his second round of the Mauritius Open. He carded a 7 under par round of 65 to finish the day at 10 under for the championship after 36 holes. He is currently in 5th on his own. Brilliant performance by Gav so far. Right in the mix for his first individual professional title. Best of luck to him over the weekend.

Good to see Moynihan continue his good run of late.

Curious writing style you have there ready4liftoff. Bit of half man, half golf journalist going on there. Or maybe there were just some quotation marks missing :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 118 ✭✭Diego Tristan

Tie for 11th in the end for Moynihan and he takes home €16,700. Good week.

It looks like the European Tour are actual trying a few new things on their historically - terrible website.

Anyway - interesting few things going on here. Size of driver is funny.

Rolex events certainly rake the money in, I would have thought the Dubai Desert was one of the top prize money events but Bryson got €476k for his win versus Shane's €1,024k, some difference.

Will Shane's T12th finish today propel him up the rankings at all?

The European Tour have this clip on all their social media as if it's something to be proud of. Slow play is getting worse, not better. Give the f**kers shot penalties.

    No change in ranking!

maybe no change, but it will benefit him in the long run and as previous poster said will solidify his top 50 ranking. with a high finish in a high ranking event he will drop small points and gain large points.

Once any player hits the top 50 and playing regularly a finish outside the top 10 but before 20 will generally keep him pretty much static (exceptions e.g. majors/WGC), to increase places from 10-50 a player needs consistent strong top 10s, to increase places in the top 10 a player needs to win or finish top 3 in strong tournaments.
Simply put, if Shane continues with teen finishes he will remain as is and keep The Masters etc in his schedule, misses cuts or finishes outside 20 and he will fall, top 10s he will creep up, top 3/5 will raise him up well, a win and he will jump.

Watching this golf from Saudi Arabia. It’s fair depressing to watch. About 20 people watching it.

Fair play to Paul Casey turning down an invite with plenty of money. Looks like some of the paid stars will be having a weekend off most notably the world number 1. Just missed his first cut in 35 events I think.

Seems to be a lot of heat going around about players taking part in this one alright.

Wonder how much it may, or may not, be playing on the players minds.

Hard not to suspect that some of the big names were happy to pocket the appearance money and take the weekend off. Its a decent prize fund (more than Dubai last week) so if the likes of Paul Dunne can make the cut, they could make a decent cheque.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,254 Mod ✭✭✭✭charlieIRL

Surely it’s a bad move turning up and taking the apprearance money and not making the weekend? Wouldn’t this effect their world ranking on the rolling events played? Missing a cut here may cancel out a high finish from before.

I doubt they turn up for the money ye alone.

Maybe I'm being too cynical - the purse is bigger than Dubai last week. Just notable that those going home early include Rose, Stenson, Westwood, Els, Olsen and others that you'd expect to cruise through.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,192 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

I reckon those top 5 players are pocketing a million plus expenses just for showing up, they won’t turn that down, course looks nice, greens have pretty big level changes but look slow, also I didn’t think it would be as breezy

Its what, a 20 hour flight from California to Riyadh? From a golfing perspective, it makes absolutely no sense for Justin Rose to be playing there even if he used a private jet. He's there for the money and the money alone. It's a bonus to him that it ticks off one of his required ET events for his card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,426 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

All pro golfers are there for the money. In ANY event. That's kind of the point.

If you're getting an appearance fee worth roughly the same as the main prize you'd be mad not to go. It's the equivalent of a free play in Rugby.

I doubt he deliberately missed the cut but I doubt cares much that he did.

4 eagles from Li today. 3 on par 4’s. be brilliant for him to win after what happened on the 18th last Sunday

Did I hear Sergio got DQ’d for damaging a green?

If he did hopefully that’ll stop the carry on from Rahm and Hatton.

There was a ridiculous Penalty in Phoenix open similar to Li ruling last week but a lot worse.

Not just a green but “a couple” according to Sergio himself and “several” according to other accounts. Also apparently brutalised a bunker that was giving him some trouble. The Saudi air not agreeing with him this week it would seem.
