Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Afraid you're showing a serious lack of knowledge. The Amazon has a global reputation for being one of the best 4x4's you can buy. Bomb-proof Toyota reliability that can go almost anywhere. They're highly sought after, particularly in Australia, as touring rigs. They go forever if looked after, in serious comfort.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if they get very close to that asking price.

Down to €17,500 from 20k now, perhaps your smarminess was a little misplaced, as well as that of the 12 pax who thanked your post!

I think the problem is SS you're both right in a lot of ways. Top Dog is right as far as the global rep is concerned, you're right in that that is far less likely to fly in the Irish market context. I'd reckon a far number of dreamer cars in this thread have the same problem. The seller sees (usually niche type) Car X go for 10,000+ in England or Germany or wherever and thinks it's worth that here, only Ireland is a small market, pretty conservative and niche cars might have only a few dozen potential buyers.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Thanks Wibbs, extremely well said - great point around the extremely limited marked for niche vehicles in Ireland..

I struggled to sell my intergalactic mileage weasel Avensis of the same year for example!

Everything late 1990s very early 2000s is gone bonkers....... Im half looking for something 1990s just to drive for a few months, But everything is stupid money and everyone has suddenly become Del Boy.

That Fiat Punto is a prime example of it..... In reality that should be a €1500 car with NCT.

The sad thing is, I wouldnt be one bit surprised if he got very near the asking price.

It's not very long ago when €1500/€2k would have got you into a BMW E34 or E36, Golf GTI or something like a Glanza.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,478 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

It’s not even a Sporting - AFAIK It’s one of those special editions they did with the wheels and skirts and some interior buts but with the 8 valve engine and 5 speed box.

Or maybe I’m wrong. It’s so long ago I can’t remember. It just looks wrong.

Edit: Cartell says it’s a sporting anyway so I’m wrong.

Bonkers price anyway even though they’re a great little car.

It's gone ridiculous. The worst 4 door rustbox tdi e36s going for 6/7k. Boxy shape starlets going for 5k, anything thats rwd suddenly worth near 10k. All I'll say is idiots and their money, there's a huge recession on the horizon and we will begin to see the true value or these cars soon enough. The only things that will keep their value are the true drivers cars, likes of six cylinder BMWs, twincam corollas and proper japanese performance cars, if you're paying 3k for a punto now you deserve to lose all of your money on it because you're an idiot.

I don't even know how you would go about fixing that. The frame may still be good though(I think) due to using thicker steel. Would you be even able to pick up body panels for it or would you have to go Cuban style and build your own from scratch.

Without a doubt. That's red rust box is a bargain at €2500 when you consider how much the Vat, Customs duty and VRT would amount to on a clean UK imported one.

In and around that. And personally if I was paying even a quarter of asking I would be looking for a full NCT to go with it.

Wouldn't be worth 20k but with test it would be worth more than 10k but maybe €17-18k. It is a classic car after all and not far left to go till it's 56 a year to tax. But that would be for a STi model if it looked the same and was the same age. As it looks clean in pics for age.
