And high mileage. But still if it had low mileage it would still be over priced by far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭StereoSound

He says no time wasters or tyre kickers.... You won't be kicking any tyres in a 1.3 anyways. That is a €700 or €800 car max if it was a good runner and taking into account it looks clean. They are worthless for the most part, you should not be conned into thinking it's a rare in demand car worth thousands, it isn't. It's nothing particularly interesting either, just a polished up red slow corolla.

2.5 V6 is the entry level engine as AFAIK
It's got 200bhp, but that car is very heavy. 1800kg.
That combined with the fact the tax is around €1,000 means this is not at all desirable.

And yes, the Dash/Radio/Centre console are horrifically dated looking...

    Old Jag's......

Mileage is low enough mind for a 12 year old car.

But realistically this is a car for parts.

It’s amazing how badly they’ve dated. I’m sure in the early 2000s that interior was fairly modern but now it looks so naff

I bought one 6 years older than that one 6 years ago, Same mileage. Think it cost me €1200 or something.

    Same, bought the 3L V6 for €570.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,480 ✭✭✭Kamili

Those old Jags aren't worth it TBH. I'm actually driving an X type from that era. Far better spec'ed than anything I've seen out there in the older Jags.

I had been debating getting a 2009/2010 estate X but they're expensive for what they are and really really low ball spec. Its a Jag FFS - who puts cloth seats in a Jag and no trinkets and toys??

Unfortunately most of the older ones are really just fit for the scrapper for sure. I think thats where mine will end up in the next few weeks, and I love it to bits and have minded the life out of it... Tax is killing it too.

    Definitely not worth nearly 6k.

600 maybe but that spec is woeful.

Its lovely, but not €4750 lovely

    1.3 Corolla

I bought one of these in 2008, a 1.3 corolla hatchback, 230k miles. 94 reg, for €950. Great little car, bit at over 200k miles they burn a lot of oil. No real market for that one I would say, far too high mileage for any collector to be interested, and even if it was free, could you even get insurance on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,175 ✭✭✭Top Dog

And less than a months test left on it.

The only thing going for that car, besides the badge, is the low mileage. Its far from a 6k incentive though.

I'd love a supercharged model though. I don't know what it is but I've always liked the look of the S-Type.

The main problem, as I found out, was insurance. I still wouldn't be able to insure it yet (you need to be 30, car is too old etc etc) however no questions were asked about insuring a twin turbo Z, even though I was 25 when I insured it

I really do miss the one I had but I wasn't going to let it have the same fate as the E34 where it would sit for years until it was classic insurance eligible (bloody hell, March is classic tax for it, where did those 12 years go!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Insurance in mine (later, yours) was cheaper than on my Avensis that I had before it. I was 31 when I bought it IIRC.

Another over priced Corolla'... Low mileage for year, but who cares and who knows if it's genuine anyways. NCT out over half a year and wants 2,500?
Worth little even with an NCT.

What is with the craze for these? Leaving aside their obvious reliability, I think they are dreadful tinny obsolete has- been cars. Can’t imagine why anyone would actually want one apart from being on a tight budget and just need wheels.

My how time does come around and catch up with us though. Are these beginning to go up in value somewhat? They are possibly in limbo at the moment as they are now an old looking car by modern standards but not old enough to be considered vintage or even retro. I passed Brian Geary car sales in Rathkeale yesterday and spotted what appeared to be a late model, circa 96/97 mint saloon inside the showroom as you would expect Ford to do with a Mk2/ Mk3 Escort now - that's just a side note though.

The red 95' @ €4,750 is away off the mark but at the same rate I would expect it to make considerably more than €700/€800 quid that you suggested earlier StereoSound. The very clean looking low mileage 97' you posted though would it be insanely off the money if it had an NCT? Don't get me wrong, not saying it still wouldn't be overpriced if it had a fresh NCT just that it may not be insanely overpriced.

Looking at it brings back fond memories of my 95' 5 dr Ceres model I once had. Probably wasn't a lot different apart from the Ceres having the 20v style front bumper, more fancy seats and colour coded mirror and door strips. Had an alarm and remote central locking too which I think were aftermarket upgrades the previous owner made though.

I remember being offered one many many years ago for a couple of hundred euro. That was when they were extinct! Too young and had just gotten the E34

I'd absolutely love that and the 155 beside it... I'll never forget watching the BTCC live in 1994 (always thought it was Donington?) and seeing Tarquini go on 2 wheels :cool:

I have a humble offering, also a big floppy car: this 2.2 petrol Peugeot 607. You can't pay to rid of them, let alone a petrol one asking near €2k

    Who'd be stupid enough to buy a 607 :p

Rock bottom stuff is out there if you look hard enough ;)

It does need a small bit of work that were well used to at this stage but the car itself is fully road legal if one was to swap insurance over! Just that small bit of work to get it to move is another... Full functioning parts car at the ready and all ;)

Keep an eye out I'm sure I'll have pics of it in due time being worked on :D

I don't know how AC Schnitzer every became a desirable thing aesthetically, but anyone that spends £43,000 on this muck needs their head examined.
