Same with Tyson. Them trying to recreate the Austin/Tyson brawl but with Jericho was awful!

What happened with that? Did they abandon the idea?

Kenny retains the AAA Mega Title in Mexico while also appearing on Impact Final Resolution in Nashville hinting at a Bullet Club reunion with Machine Gun :)

Great match at TripleMania, Omega had to bust out the Avalanche One Winged Angel for the win.

The Impact video is interesting, more NJPW references and they keep name-dropping Okada. I think it's pretty unlikely but could this be less about different companies working together and more leading to some sort of cross-promotional Bullet Club takeover? Callis did say this was all years in the making! Maybe it was KENTA who attacked Mox after all :p

Some of the AEW entrance themes are now on streaming services.

But also on Bandcamp if anyone who doesn't use either Spotify or Apple Music wants to buy them and help support the company.

I'm partial to the instrumental version of Orange Cassidy's theme. Guess I know what I'm going to try and learn on the electric guitar eventually.

Bear Country sure looked a fun tag team on Dark. Stu Grayson is some animal lifting them boys like he did.

Dynamite is live tonight then they are taping the rest of the year Thursday and Friday.

They'll finish up just in time for someone to, say, travel to Japan and quarantine until the 4th/5th of January.

That was a real fun tag match.

Bear Country gave me a great flashback to Earthquake & Typhoon and I was thinking that’s what Heavy Machinery in the WWE should have been like instead of a comedy team.

Grayson he was machine lifting them.

How is it when All Petite Wrestling gets a scabby 800,000 viewers it doing brilliant, but when wwe gets over 2million the same people say its rubbish.

The love for the vanilla boring midgets has their fans so blinkered, they will excuse any thing AEW does but will slate the WWE for the same rubbish. Wrestling is dead, it is never coming back, who is going to look at the likes of the middle aged bucks , standing 5 foot 5 and take them seriously.

    So?
What has that got to do with what I wrote in relation to the double standards and bias of the aew marks?
How does that alter the heights of the midgets, or the middle age bucks?
Look at Rusev, wwe was slated for how they treated him, but when aew has him running around like a headless chicken the same people who slated the wwe go silent.
Aew barely beats NXT, and some weeks NXT even beats AEW. I am not defending wwe, as that is awful as well.

AEWs 800k engaged viewers are more important in a ratings context than the <2m pensioners still watching WWE out of habit.

Enjoy The Rocks various talentless cousins, El Hijo Del IRS in a mask and Seth "Poundshop Omega" Rollins while you still can because the next set of WWE tv negotiations are going to be absolutely brutal.

I dont like wwe either, did you choose to ignore where I wrote that?

As for this demo rating nonsense, aew has better percentages in the 18-49 demo, but now many of them are over 40?
One year in and AEW has not improved , it is still roughly averaging the same numbers, and its top names are a 61 year old with a bad back and an overweight 50 year old jericho.
Ambrose is just a garbage wrestler and Rusev cried over video games.

TNA topped out at 2 million viewers, Aew will never top that.
WWE will never get the viewers they had either. I watch out of some warped form of loyalty only, and that is usually the following day on fast forward.

Great episode of Dynamite last night. When PAC came out I was hoping it would lead to a PAC Omega title match. By will take the Rey Fenix. Should be a good match.

I imagine it’s shaping up for a long Omega title reign. So we should get plenty of dream matches along the way.

Last nights Dynamite was a step down from last week, but to be fair last weeks was brilliant and this week always had a tough act to follow. But let me be clear, it was still enjoyable and way better than Raw.

The opener was good and Im enjoying Page and the Dark Order, though I was disappointed to see them lose. It also slightly furthered Matt Hardys new persona but to be fair I dont care about Hardy at this stage.

Cody v Angelico was ok, went on a bit long for my liking. The Team Taz/Cody/Sting/Allin story wasnt furthered much but I do enjoy Taz and Starks cutting promos even if its short.

The 12 man tag was poor with the finish particularly sloppy. I like Tom Flight alot and would like to see more. I hope their tag match next week will be better than this borefest. Best friends can fcuk offx Varsity Blonds are too green, Hager is a sloppy mess and Jericho is far past it. Does he have to wrestle most weeks? Love MJFs backhanded commitments though.

Disappointed Eddie Kingstons promo got cut short, can listen to him all day. The brawl that followed was sloppy.

Scu vs the Accliamed was fine. Not digging the Acclaimeds gimmick in 2020 and rap battles like this never did much for me. I wont mind seeing them vs the Bucks though.

The womens match was good. Big Swole always lools good but I wanna see more of her. Everytime I see her shes missing for a few weeks.

Bakers attack on Rosa was sinple yet effective. Bakers such a good, natural heel character.

The main event did its job though Janela got more offence than he deserved.

No problem with Fenix v Omega which will sure to be a good match and further solidify Omegas turn. Omega and Don have been the MVPs in recent weeks so Im very pleased at Omegas reign thus far.

Iverall a decent show but far from perfect.

AEW with more logical booking for Kenny first Janela & now Fenix who both missed out on there chance to win the title in that mini tournament due to injuries.

Also glad the Good Brothers didn't turn up last night, I do expect them to turn up during the Fenix match to attack Death Triangle who will more than likely be at ringside.

Really enjoying Page slipping into the grip of The Dark Order his drinking clouding his mind and the cult are using that to get him to join.

Less Good Brothers please. Id love less Impact. Callis with Kenny is perfect.

Pages story is working for me and the side story with Dark Order is a fine transitional feud. I got a kick out of their entrance this week. Silver has great timing comedy wise.

So the ones who attacked Brandi were attacking a pregnant woman?

Not sure who messed up Hager's finisher. Looked like it might've been Griff's fault. Or both.

Hardy just doing the same thing he did in WWE a while ago with Helms and Shannon Moore (I think).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

Beaver Boys have something, I must admit. Just not sure their shtick clicks with a sinister cult.

How good would Dark Order be, if it were just Grayson, maybe Butcher and Blade, with Jake as their leader?

Not even sure what the Nightmare family is supposed to achieve?

It doesn't help or hinder Cody one bit. He always gets his angles over, and they rarely involve the Nightmare Family faction to any great degree.

And Dustin is over no matter what role he's in - some combination of his legacy, ring work and promo will always get you interested, one way or another.

Brandi doesn't even seem to be fully invested in it, e.g., the thing with Shaq/Jade Cargill is very much her vs them. Not NF vs them.

Dustin is not over. Well not with me. His match with Cody aside, I wish hed go away at this stage. He bores me as this elder babyface. Ive had zero interest in him since that match.

I had hoped hed go with the Dark Order and be Seven for ****s and giggles.

Happy for Brandi and Cody, but hopefully she exits stage left now.

Sorry but, and I know it's an unpopular opinion, but the only over that Cody and Brandi get me is to turn over to something else. I feel that he is a charisma black hole, decent worker, but nothing special and she comes across as self entitled collection of 'popular gir/cheerleader' stereotypes. Which is fine if that is what they're going for but for me it's just go away heat.

    Yeah, whats the purpose?

They dont appear to serve a purposes yet and he hasnt needed them to get over.

Codys been presented like a star and even in defeat he gets over. AEW have been excellent in this regard.

Though his Cody Cutter is an awful finisher for him considering he can never time it well. When he messes up and wins it comes off very weak.

Multiple. AEW tend to split wrestlers into factions for the purposes of booking (in this sense a kind of Dragon Gate lite method) so it works to have pin eaters on Cody's side. Another is that it gives wrestlers lower down the card purpose and identity (Dustin, Gunn Club, Lee Johnson, QT Marshall) and finally it fits Cody's character. Everything he does is OTT, the entrance, the coach, of course his faction should be ridiculously big. The size and relative uselessness of the faction is a device they've used to bloat Cody's kayfabe ego even though obviously their usefulness and effectiveness is next to nil, they aren't supposed to be that. Think of it like a big time boxer who enters a title fight with a huge posse, Cody's family is just his posse. If they do ever do the Cody heel turn, you've got a ready made item of ridicule right there. Those who are fans of Cody enjoy the ridiculousness of it, his dog is literally named "Pharaoh" and is in the thing, it's fairly obvious what that group is designed for.

They are fine points but does Cody need them and overall they dont add much to Dynamite or Cody.

While yes it gives those like QT and others a slight identity, I think Cody would be perfectly fine without them. Yes, the ego point is fair but how much does it add to Codys character. The same could be achieved with one of QT and Dustin in terms eating pins.

I just feel any positive is minimal. But to be fair they dont real take away from Cody either. I find the whole faction insignificant besides Cody.

They're not really supposed to. On Dark you've got guys with easier made match ups if you want to do them because they're associated with Cody and whatever feuds he happens to be in. Factioning off your roster is a brilliant and easy device to create ready made stories and give matches stakes, it's just good booking.

Cody's faction barely ever wrestle on Dynamite, outside of him, Dustin and Marshall they basically never do. But having so many of them in it adds to that hyperbolic nature of it, it's laid on thick.

Without Cody it wouldn't exist, right now it's merely a plot device for both the visual nature to show how big a star Cody thinks he is, and as a funny little tidbit. I'd rather that than having these guys floating around solo doing nothing. But it's a tiny part of the company and often a nonfactor on the show. It's just a silly thing Cody has, which works with the Cody character. At the end of the day, when Team Tazz come to town to threaten Cody, it's not Cody's useless family that make the save, it's Sting or Darby, real stars.

Factions allow the top people in the faction to stay strong by having the jobbers eat pins/cost them matches.

It also gives the bad-ass loner guy a big evil to fight against so that he can overcome the odds to get to the end boss.

It gives more booking options with the established tag teams of one faction going against another in the other faction regardless of heel/face alignment. Womens matches can be booked between the female wrestlers in the factions etc. It ties everything together and makes random match-ups have an over-arching story.

Pretty much every popular period in any given wrestling promotion has heavily featured well-booked factions. A big reason that current day WWE is bad is because directionless factions are a dumping ground for people that creative has nothing for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,753 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

But Cody looks like a star without them the faction dont add any star power to him, well in my opinion. Everything else does, just not the piss poor stable. Its unnecessary.

Ive no problem with factions, I just dont see much point beyond giving smaller guys a bit of an identity.... which to br fair is a good point you made.

QT and Dustin are invloved enough on Dynamite, too much for my liking. Dustin had a match last week against 10 which went on what seemed to be forever and they went over the Butcher and Blade recently in an overly long bunkhouse match. Dustin went over in both and personally feel they were the wrong decisions.

I just feel the faction in its current form adds very little and while I agree the lower members could be floating around doing nothing, Id say remove them all at the minute and give the time to others. I would have rather see Kingston get more promo time this week than Dustins short promo.

But sure, thats just me. Im usually in the minority with my thoughts.

All that aside, I really have enjoyed Cody's run thus far.

On another note, I cant wait for Dynamite to get a crowd back. Imagine how hot last weeks show eoulf have been with a live crowd.

I totally get that it'll sell more merch.

I just don't think it does anything for any of the involved parties.

E.g., is anyone tuning into the show wondering what on earth will be next for QT Marshall?
