Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just after checking the bank account there and the money came through yesterday wee hee happy days, its defiantly the handiest money I ever got. Just waiting on the text message now to tell me its in so that I will be happy again. I got €40 for each calf so my cow that has regular twins was a great help.

When did you weigh yours Anto?
I did mine in late June. Nothing here yet

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Anto_Meath

Hi Sugarbowl, I weighed them the 23 of August, I have also all information up to date on ICBF regarding Calf Quality, Scour ect. Submitted info on the last calf last week just as he was 5 months so maybe that is connected, I don't know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,007 ✭✭✭50HX

Same old story....extend the deadline. ..ffs if you don't have them weighed by now don't bother with the scheme

It's a separate scheme from the BDGP.
I helped a neighbour weigh his cows and calves three weeks ago and he got paid today. Some of his calves wouldn't be five months old yet.

I weighed mine October 02nd, they paid me Oct 22nd! Great scheme .. what interested me was the variation in the weights of cows.. I would have been a bit off when estimating for dosing rates on some of them to be honest .. ive one 546kg coween and I thought there was something up with the scales but she has reared a 300kg heifer calf so I suppose she is the one % wise we should be having not the 730kg looker!!

Lad in our DG thought he had everything in order, but he had to re-submit the weights after contacting them. If anyone is in doubt, it might be worthwhile making a phonecall.

The weights appear in ICBF for us. Did they appear there for the lad in your DG? Doesn't that mean that everything should be good? Haven't got ours need by the way.

Now that the extended deadline has past any word on how many actually applied for this scheme? There was meant to be €8 million of an under spend on this scheme, I wounder will they give a top up on the €40 / head to use up this surplus? You would wonder why anyone who originally signed up for this scheme didn't complete it.

Farmers will now have until 5:00pm of next Friday, November 15, to submit that data to the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) to avail of a €40 payment per cow/calf pairing.

Deadline for weighing was Nov 8, deadline for submitting the weights is Nov 15.

    In this weeks Farmers Journal;

BEEP underspend to see a quarter of money left behind.

Why do you reckon people didn't join?

    I’d say any of
    No scales
cost of hiring scales & collecting
    €40 per cow & calf
    cattle in multiple places

Honestly? There is a sizable portion of Irish beef farmers that want money for nothing and if they have to do anything for it “it isn’t worth their while”.
That, and Irish farming social media has turned into a hotbed for conspiracy theories in the past 12 months.

Have to agree with your 1st point anyhow bogman. I had as much work as most with this scheme but was not complaining last week when I got over 2 and a half grand. Nothing for nothing in this world.

I reckon I'm pulling out of all schemes from now on. I wasnt paid the BDGP last year and no explanation given. Finally told a month after the payment date that I was getting an inspection. The following morning! Had all the cattle needed inside and in the crush when the guy called and everything was 100%.

    I wasn't paid till April.

Screw that, I don't need that aggravation in my life.

I see the new BEEP scheme is opening tomorrow.
€90 for the first 10 calves.
    €80 per calf after that.

€50/calf for weighing the calf which is compulsory.
€30/calf for either vaccinating for pneumonia or feeding meal to calves pre weaning. These are optional.
€10 for testing dung for parasites which is optional also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,913 ✭✭✭✭patsy_mccabe

Where did you see that Tanko?
Do you have to apply again for this year?

Looks like you will have to apply year on year ticking some of the options that Tanko outlined

Oer €5k in this scheme for me it seems. Not to be sneezed at. I'll be back in anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,291 ✭✭✭tanko

I always vaccinate against Pnuemonia with two shots of Rispoval 3 every year which costs about €12/calf, so at least i'll get paid for that.
But i see that you have to give a single shot against IBR also which i haven't being doing. How much does this cost?

How many times have i posted not to depend on subsidy money to be paid on time, jasus, to get it anytime is a nice bonus. ...... best paying hours are those on paperwork unless of course you're dairy farmer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 986 ✭✭✭tellmeabit

I'll be back on. Whole lot. Never vaccinate here but would like to see if a difference if we did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,913 ✭✭✭✭patsy_mccabe

I'm all in aswell. The whole vacination thing has being bugging me for a while. I was thinking all along to maybe look at doing cows for Lepto this year. Was going to discuss it with my vet.

    Vaccinate or feed meal.

How will a farmer be required to prove? Is it as simple as a self declaration (backed up by remedy records and feed receipts)?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Anto_Meath

Defiantly worth doing it again this year, it was the handiest money I got last year anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,181 ✭✭✭Lady Haywire

90 is much better than the last Beep payment. Where I'd get less than 400.
We already feed meal & dung sample so why not weight as well this time.

Its per calf but it looks like the dung sample money is per cow, so €90 for one and €80 for the other

Thats what the T&Cs say, record of feeding meal and proof of purchase
For the vaccinations ur vet does a plan for weaning for your farm but they name

    - Single RSV and Pi3 Intranasal 2 to 4 weeks before weaning/housing/sale
    - At the same time, a Single (or 2 dose program) IBR live intra-muscular injection (2 to 4 weeks before weaning/housing/sale)

You put your cows in a clean yard for a couple of hours, let them out, then collect ten separate samples in bags and post them to a lab.

An Post are going to love this scheme. It'll be farmers revenge for the price of posting BVD samples:D.

I assume it's through www.mybeep.ie again for the scales, I'm in as the say on the vodafone add, money for good practice as far as I see it.

if this is the future of schemes buying a scales might become a necessity

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,913 ✭✭✭✭patsy_mccabe

So for farmers who said last year the scheme was only a load of sh1te, might be right this year. :D

Buying a scales was one of the best things we've done when it comes to parasite management. We were able to dose and use pour-ons to the ml needed. We had been under-dosing for years. On the downside we ended up spending a lot more on medicine this Winter but the animals look better

  • Registered Users Posts: 879 ✭✭✭Parishlad

Just signed up. Only small numbers here as ye know but this is definitely worthwhile to me. The info from weighing is useful/interesting. Going with the vaccination and sampling options too.
