Does that calf not have to be born on ur farm?

Weighed a bunch of cows and calves. I couldn't believe how off I was with my estimates at the start.

On the plus side I'll be getting money, on the downside I'll have to spend a bunch of that on pour-on and dosing cause I've been under valuing their weight for so long.

I’ve entered a lot of stock judging competitions with Macra and in general most people overestimate their ability to judge weights.

Having problems entering details for scales, was given registration number by co-op but can't enter it in the register scales box, the box just has "OWN" in it and it won't delete so that i can enter the proper number?

On the main screen i have a registration number showing but it is different to the one i was given in the co-op, any ideas, thanks.

Enter the number after own in the box

I'm just after putting in the weights for a neighbour and the scales number was already there when i logged into his ICBF account. It wasn't in the "own" box.
Dont worry about that "own" box and try entering the weights.

Have the weights entered alright, trying to put a number after the "own" just says invalid registration number, i'll chance it there's some sort of a number put down for me i'd say it'll be grand.

If the weights are entered correctly you can click on a tab at the top that shows a screen with the cows and their calves weights and the date they were weighed.

That comes up alright, just wanted to be sure i was'nt docked on a technicality is all, thanks.

You could always give ICBF a ring just to check all is ok i suppose.

Did you get a notification as the scales owner to say your scales had been used?

He hired the scales from the local co-op.

If a farmer books scales for Saturday 26th, they don't have to be returned until the Tuesday morning with Monday 28th being a Bank Holiday, so will have the scales for three days instead of one.
This could be useful for someone with a fragmented farm.

Just after checking the bank account there and the money came through yesterday wee hee happy days, its defiantly the handiest money I ever got. Just waiting on the text message now to tell me its in so that I will be happy again. I got €40 for each calf so my cow that has regular twins was a great help.

When did you weigh yours Anto?
I did mine in late June. Nothing here yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭Anto_Meath

Hi Sugarbowl, I weighed them the 23 of August, I have also all information up to date on ICBF regarding Calf Quality, Scour ect. Submitted info on the last calf last week just as he was 5 months so maybe that is connected, I don't know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,716 ✭✭✭50HX

Same old story....extend the deadline. ..ffs if you don't have them weighed by now don't bother with the scheme

It's a separate scheme from the BDGP.
I helped a neighbour weigh his cows and calves three weeks ago and he got paid today. Some of his calves wouldn't be five months old yet.

I weighed mine October 02nd, they paid me Oct 22nd! Great scheme .. what interested me was the variation in the weights of cows.. I would have been a bit off when estimating for dosing rates on some of them to be honest .. ive one 546kg coween and I thought there was something up with the scales but she has reared a 300kg heifer calf so I suppose she is the one % wise we should be having not the 730kg looker!!
