Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Think i will stick to tried and tested, wait for a start up Kermit Thread, let Sryan weigh in and back it up, then await sign off from GL, normally when those things align we get what we want!
    Well i do anyway

I thought this was a thread started by Kermit?

It was yes, but unless im reading it wrong, not sure Sryan or GL have as confident on This one, not just those, others too, im not knocking anyone, not Kermit for starting thread, but iv not seen his confidence backed up by others who equally know their stuff!
Just my twopence worth, but experience tells me when those 3 agree we are normally on to a good thing!

Will Dublin Airport be operational this Thursday or will snow stop flights?

    Sleet here in Castlebar

    I'll keep it simple.
If the 18z gfs is right we are looking at a nationwide red alert come Thursday

    ??

The wildly over-optimistic GFS snow charts (there's apparently lying snow here right now) are showing 1-3cm at best for most of the country by Friday morning

  • Registered Users Posts: 788 ✭✭✭Snowbiee21

Cant read charts, but amazed how those on here who can, read them so differently and call things so differently, one mentions rain, one mentions countrywide status red alerts!!

Nothing more annoying , I agree with you

The Met in UK have issued an amber weather alert for Northern Ireland for both Tuesday and Thursday.
Met Eireann a bit slow out the traps on this one!!

Will it be snowing at Four Roads, Glenamaddy at 10:33pm on Thursday? Will Gladys meet me there and will her father catch us?

The parallel just coming out now is a great run for the southwest....almost constant snow showers Tuesday into Wed morning. I'll eat my hat if hilly areas in Cork don't have lying snow Wed morning

That onshore element is still there and it's not going away just remember anyone thinking it will be snowing on Thursday along the east. Midlands will get sleet and snow, there will be accumulation on high grounds. Down at low level more slushy kind of affair

Were they sporting the latest trend in beard fashion and showing off their latest 'must have' iPhone 10 purchase? If not, then they may not be true snowflakes.

Anyone using the lying snow depth charts as gospel are kidding themselves, they're only a very rough guide and never right. I doubt there will be significant disruption at all next week. The usual Connor Pass/ Sally Gap type snow probably. That's it. Less cold the following week.

I can’t see any warnings on UK Met site for NÍ bar yellow for SE England Tuesday Wednesday. I’m in mobile site might that make a difference and maybe not updated yet?

Given the lack of posts in the model threads in the past 24 hours , can it be assumed that guidance for next weekend and beyond is a return to mild ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

Sorry folks saw on NW that the Northern Ireland met had a warning out. Perhaps that's not correct I'm not sure....fake news maybe!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 209 ✭✭Easterly Beasterly

Where are the lies? From what I can see, it's just posters interpreting the potential for snow based on the model outputs, isn't that the idea?

Drove from SW to Dublin this evening. Nothing to report.

What are the chances of snow in Dublin this week and to stick??

Just my opinion , HiRLAM 18Z looks fairly wintry to me on Tues increasingly so as the day goes on, heaviest in the W and NW, and possibly the SW

One guy mentions that Met Éireann said "extremely cold" conditions and disruptive snow coming. Another is saying that the UK Met Office have released amber warnings for Northern Ireland...

Met Eireann said bitterly cold and possible widespread snow on Thursday! I guess the possibility of snow makes people excitable! :)

How do you see the week panning out?

In terms of the FI thread, the models are still all over the place and no concrete solution is emerging. I think most posters have given up trying to decipher what the models are showing in FI. The <120hr model thread is pretty much covered here.

I'll update in a few minutes if anyone wants a fix before bed :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

Some scoff at the idea of a red for Thursday!! Not sure why as practically all models agree on Ireland seeing heavy sleet and snow. I mean what's certain is the ppn will be torrential as the rainfall maps show that. If this were to fall as snow it would lead to widespread disruption where it did....so why does red sound so foolish. Time will tell who's the fool

Loose thoughts but I have to hit the hay so!

First off - slight delay in arrival of snow showers in the northwest to first light Tuesday morning (a few hours delay effectively).

This is because a more active frontal system crosses the country on Monday night and associated with that is a wedge of slightly warmer temperatures.

Good news is that there is more precipitation to work with for all of us and while initially rain and sleet on Monday night it should quickly transition to snow through the early hours and I expect a few hours of snow Tuesday morning particular for Leinster and Munster with 2 - 5 cm possible before it clears in to the Irish sea.

Following on hail and snow showers packing in to the west with occassional accumulations here through the day. These pushing ever further east through the afternoon. Persistent accumulations through Tuesday evening in the west and north.

On Tuesday night further heavy hail and snow showers with these occassionally transiting the country. 2 - 5 cm generally, i'd go with 5 - 10 cm in the western and northern parts of the country. Ulster, Connaught and Munster most at risk.

Wednesday is Tuesday - rinse and repeat.

Thursday will bring widespread snow chaos, death and destruction.

Will the death and destruction be in Dublin? If so what time? I will be having my kids birthday and would like to know in advance.

    Thank you.....!!!!!
