Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Can anybody join the GUI and get this discount? Or do you actually have to be a golfer and have a membership somewhere?

    You need to be a member of a club. You can join a club on a limited membership (5 day for example), and it can be quite cheap, but i'm not sure it would save you much money, unless your insurance premium is very high.

    That's the missus, and I'm 39 yr old male, named driver on full license for 3 years

    Last year I paid €547 to Axa, up from €575 the previous year.

    This year I was quoted €652 for renewal with axa.

    On its4women, I used code LQ456 plus online discount to get this price:
    Its4women €413 or €459 with legal, roadside assit and windscreen cover

    So I went for the €459, not bad.

    Just so everyone knows AA insurance have a €200 discretion with your renewal quote. If you get a quote of say €755, when they ring you to follow up, you tell them you got a better quote of say €556 they can refer you to the loyality team and they can price match to the €556. But it needs to be within the €200 to get the referral.

    I read that the insurance business had a ~9% profit last year. That's after the massive 62% increase of premium in recent years... In other words they had to increase the premium by 53% just to get even... How about starting to reduce the dept from previous years?

    I hardly see where we are being ripped too...

    My insurance has gone up by 700 and I get less.

    Had motorcycle cover for anything and it was taken away.
    Had fully comp with a huge amount covered on cars which was taken so now I pay €1780 for barely anything just basically legal to be on the road, no breakdown, windscreen or anything at all really...

    Firstly, I have always stated here that premiums are far too high and the current levels are unsustainable. In addition, if things continue as they are, aspects of our day to day lives will change dramatically (sport, leisure, care etc)

    It is very easy to slap out headlines like 'Rip Off' and 'Gouging' to feed the perfectly understandable dismay that people feel about the situation. It was reported that the figures say premiums rose by 42% in the last ten years and insurers made 9% profit last year. That seeks to suggest that insurers were making profit every year during the decade, which is far from the truth

    Commentators were saying that 9% profit is out of line with the UK, which averages 5% profit. Let's put that in to context. The report says that the average premium is now €700. That means your insurer made €63 profit from you last year. So, if you were in the UK, your insurer there would have made €35 profit THAT YEAR. So, basically you were ripped off by €28.....

    We all know how averages work and within those figures some sections of policyholder gave insurers hundreds of Euro profit each and some sections lost the same amount. Just like some insurers would have lost millions and some made a tidy sum. Profits one year are no guarantee of profit next year, even if they had the exact same clients on their books, it is a game of chance

    The key to reducing premiums is to reduce claims and make Ireland a profitable environment for more insurers to come in and increase competition. If you are left with only one or two insurers offering cover in any given sector, you are exposing yourself to being shafted by those providers, just like any other supply and demand scenario. If insurers are making money, you will pay lower premiums. It has always been that way throughout history

    No I wouldn't, so for that reason I'm not taking this report as Gospel. I'm sure they happily omitted some statistics to suit the agenda.

    So huge that RSA, Quinn & Setanta went bust, FBD needed to raise capital and providers are pulling capacity left right & centre

    Nope. He has a predetermined disposition. No amount of facts and stats will change that

    The auditors, the CBI and everyone are in on a big conspiracy to hide the huge profits insurance companies make from the public and the tax man

    F*ck me if the margins insurance companies target are "excessive" and constitute a "rip off" I really hope you never find out the kind of margins most consumer goods are sold for

    In the last year I've had a no fault accident with €750 bill claiming off the other person's insurance for a small respray and whatnot. Tried the usual checking other companies online but most of the 10+ websites I checked wouldn't offer a quote when I included the no-fault accident. Gave up trying after a while and just called Axa instead asking for the 10% dashcam discount which they said is for the first year's policy only. After a bit of back and forth the agent offered 10% off anyhow so relatively happy.

Oddly no open drive, but I care not TBH(and they told me if I needed that for a rental car/holidays or whatever just to give them a bell). Chill were a kind of Hail Mary last resort after another crowd after a year of near double the above price, decided to double it again and cover less and others just flat out refused or quoted what I consider telephone numbers(one broker quoted three grand). The chap on the phone from Chill that year when he came back to me was apologetic at the price and was confused at my glee. :D Now to be fair I'm an old fart, I've never had any claim, never any points, or tickets before they came in and have always had pretty insurance unfriendly cars and am driving the above jalopy for 15 years and do low mileage. During the chat they did say all this very much stood to me. Especially the long term use of the older car. My risk is low. If I was looking for my first year insurance on the same car, or even a lower power/risk car of the same age well, good luck. Which to be fair is a nice change to hear. In previous years the length of ownership or the fact it's my "pet car" at this stage seemed to mean nada. I even checked this with a few saying I had the car a year or two and it made little difference. So yeah, it's nice to see some nuance come in.

    It's actually the best policy in the world. It does look expensive at first but it's amazing value when broken down. It's the Chubb Masterpiece policy

    thanks for sending that on. Looks very interesting Do you know if there is a mileage cap on the classic as well, or any other limitations (no commuting, etc)? I currently have a daily and a classic and would be keen on getting another daily perhaps thats a bit lighter on fuel!

    1 NCB, 0 Named.

    Liberty - 3800 Fully Comp -> 1849/1639 (TPFT)
    25 plus.ie - 2593 (Standard) - 2737 (Xtra). (2427/2564 - 750excess) -> 2009/2172 Xtra
    Acorn - Kennco 2285.47 (250 excess) -> 1398 RSA TPFT
    Axa (Direct) - 2594 Compy, 2448 TPFT. -> 1760/1658 TPFT

    Fresh quotes:

    AIG - 1648/1484TPFT

    Aviva - 1760/1658 TPFT.
    FBD - 1891/1856 TPFT
    XS Direct - 1780 Comp (3k Excess :pac: )
    Quoteme.ie - 1962/1847 TPFT
    Post - 1784/1650

    And the quote I think I am going for?

    Bank of Ireland - 922 (Popular) or 1011 (Prestige) TPFT / 943 (Popular) or 1034 (Prestige) Comp

    I honestly don't know how theirs is so low. It appears its all to do with my address. My specific address gives this, but if I just put in the area it gives a quote about 500 higher. It seems to be a big in their system, but that isn't my fault :pac::)

    Looks like I will not be getting any such good deal this year.

    It appears prices have gone up, unless there is the one cheap company I have yet to contact.

    1 windscreen claim. Doesn't really seem to effect much

    BOI renewal (RSA) came in at 977 (From 920 last year), I got them down to 930 though.

    Others:

    Try some of the brokers. Im in the middle of renewal now and the brokers are getting good prices from RSA (~900 through a broker with RSA vs 1,400 direct with RSA). im currently with a broker called GMHD who have been very good, but Iv also tried Glennon, Dolmen, and Sheridan

    Just rang GMHD, nice guys! Basically said that 930 was as good as I would do and they couldn't do better!
