That's it, you do start off not great, especially with distance running, but the upgrade system is extremely well implemented, every jump, every connected swing of a weapon, all adds to your upgrades and it just feels natural. Once you get the first perk in the 3rd tier of every area, you start to become a beast again. When I first played it, I don't remember having the grappling hook, and I certainly don't remember the bow, which I recently got in my current playthrough and it's beast! One shot everything nearly! Makes the Power upgrades fly up. That and standing in an area covered by spikes and just tossing zombies into them. Great craic!

I do like using the guns too, but it does make you choose between quick and easy but loud, or:

yeah I never remember the bow, I have a feeling it was dlc'd in. I'm really enjoying it, I'm still a wombat but recently unlocked foot stomp which has been a bit of a game changer. I'm too scared to go out at night so the xp accumulation and levelling is slow but that's grand as the alternative is still too terrifying

I have awful trouble with the buttons, I keep flipping the triggers around depending what game I'm playing and was messing around with having the x button as jump for a while. Now when I press a button I don't know if I'm going to foot stomp or fire a bomb

my bow isn't very powerful it one or two shotted some enemies but the big guys look like porcupines when I'm done with them. The guns I've hardly used tbh, they seem op but was having trouble ads and firing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,284 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Headshots! Although, I have a blue bow with base 240 dmg, so that could be it. The orange suit brutes go down with 1 headshot, the fireman brutes take 2. And the guns are OP, as they should be, but you have the downside of it bringing in Virals. The sound in this game makes it far scarier, I'm pretty sure I can hear zombie screams from across the map!

They've also added in silencers, but the loot required is something I haven't seen before either, so I don't think I'll be getting it until later in the game.

I can't under emphasis how much I'm loving this right now. Grapple hook is a game changer. I'm using guns a lot, I make a lot of noise but bullets are plentiful. Actually prefer the melee combat, now that I have weapons that make sense.

Never really bothered with guns, once you have a high level Korek Machete you can slaughter almost everything.

it's just so off putting that at the start you have to fight a big bruiser with a plank but yeah once you rank up it becomes a lot more manageable

You do have the Korek Machete ?

Best to not pick it up until you are level 20 ( i think) it may have changed.

I don't think so. I have some yellow weapon in my stash but haven't been using it. I'm not really struggling offensively. The big guys with armour maybe but they go down quick with bullets and then I just address the aftermath with machetees and molotovs. I'm only playing on normal and that's grand.

The worst to be honest is the normal zombies who scare the crap out of me by sneaking up and grabbing you. Everything else moans or makes a ruckus of some sort.

The news from the sequel isn't looking so hot, hopefully they'll be able to salvage it, and we won't have another cyberpunk debacle.

The following is great, and ties in with the main story nicely. Enjoy!

The following is a different game tbh, from the city to "there" is brilliantly done.

makes the DL2 news harder to take.

Just bought the enhcanced edition with the following there. I wanted to buy the Evil within 2 but It is still a mad price on psn. Id say dying light is better anyways.

Yupp, the main game and The Following expansion which is just excellent when you finish the main game. Enjoy!

Enhanced edition is currently 15 euro on PSN sale, cheapest it's ever been. Anyone interested in some co-op this week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Went back to this, I have a chunk of trophies left to get but I'd really like the platinum. Some of the side quests are a pain in the hole though but loving just bouncing around area to area getting into scraps. Has me really hyped for DL2 but I think I'm gonna spend August mostly trying to get the platinum in this :)

Gravity modified with this weeks event/DLC patch.

Looks ehh interesting if you have completed the game, nightmare if you havent. In Options go to Community Event ONline and turn it off to get gravity back to normal.

Class, I'll be on about half 10 if you're still on.

Could try the prison heist as well, i only haired it once and the last boss turned out to be bugged and invincible. Put me off trying out again solo.

On now with Eoin of anyone else wants to join.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

That was a bit of a bust. I was hoping for a fun challenge but we did the Prison (I think on Normal) and it was frustratingly difficult. Countless deaths because of way too many armed enemies and then way too many infected, getting swarmed every few seconds with not enough resources on us. Wasn't a fraction of that when I tried it solo so was a bit shyte. As fun as the game is, it has aged quite a bit. I'm still really looking forward to the new game with the improvements like no firearms in the game which is a relief as shooting and enemies with guns are definitely one of the weakest parts of the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,111 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Yeah this game was clearly built for single player with coop added afterwards. The controls also aren't the greatest.

Would you not need to be fully tooled up with guns for the prison?

Iirc correctly I couldn't go near it till had a decent amount of guns and ammo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,111 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Yeah we went in without proper preparation. I had only shotgun, bow and crossbow as my ranged weapons. I had a lot more in my stash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I forgot many gun goons there were in it and we had just been arsing around beforehand and let's go to prison without much thought. Yeah, you definitely need to be prepared for it.

How was the melee combat in this ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Really good, ton of different weapons, brytal combat, blades can slice heads clean off while blunt weapons can break bones, very satisfying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Posted this in the humour thread but a bit behind it Eoin, at the end you can hear another crash and that was the car that fell out of the sky. So random and scared the **** out of me, thought something crazy was attacking us :D

I uninstalled the game last night thinking I had my fill until DL 2 but installing it again now as I want to start a brand new game on the highest difficulty, see how I get on. I tried it recently with the Following and was so **** tough but want to go back and experience the story again. Will probably uninstall again after my first rage quit but at least I have fast Internet now.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 80,776 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sephiroth_dude

Cool, I was watching a lad play DL 2 the other day and it looks like you parry attacks , I'm guessing you can't do that in the first one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Nope, you can equip a shield but I'm fairly sure that's solely to block.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Started my nightmare playthrough and forgot how great the start is, learning the ropes, meeting people and helping survivors. Also forgot how slow you are and lacking so many parkour and combat moves. The zombies aren't even worth fighting and that's the only downer at the moment. I can take a few hits from zombies but they take far too long to kill. It should be the other easy around, make them more freshly to me but let me still take them down with a few smashes to the skull.

Spent so long in end game, i forgot the characters and story going on and as they seemed to be mentioned in DL2 with rumours of a DL1 character popping up in it, it's good to get a fresher. Absolutely not looking forward to nighttime on nightmare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,905 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Nightmare was a bust. I had a very early quest to take out 4 bandits and couldn't do it. The constant restarting a few miles down the road annoyed me too much so I quit. Instead went with NG+ (which i never saw because it only appears in the advanced settings for new game when your save isn't on a dlc mission, awful coding) which is brilliant. Went with Hard Difficulty and all my skills and weapons. I'm 2-3 shotting zombies during the day but can't take on Virals at night so that's exactly what I wanted. Bit worried of burnot before Dying Light 2 though so not sure how much I'll play or if I'll just zip to The Following as the ending of that may play into DL 2.

For anyone who hasn't played DL, I can't recommend it enough. The base game and The Following for 12 quid on PSN at the moment is a steal.
