Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have swapped out a tuner in a ferguson before if it is the problem and you can find a replacement, easy enough job. Firmware change probably a good first option though as suggested.

I'm looking at a MeCool KIII Pro to replace the current rats nest of boxes and cables i have under the TV

It's yer typical high-end android box, with a ton of ports and very good specs. It also has satellite tuners for FreeSat, as well as Digital TV inputs, plus ethernet, and USB3 ports for storage.

It also supports those other features we're not supposed to talk about.

i don't know if it supports Saorview specifically, but all the youtube reviews from around the world see to be glowing

More details https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057773824 (the chigz channel linked reviews a LOT of android boxes)

    Brief checklist:
    Full 4K HD
latest Android - so IPTV, Kodi, Netflix, etc. etc.
Satellite and DVB-T with full EPG and recording to usb stick/HDD
    Internet + Youtube
    Moderate android casual gaming
Ethernet and SD card support, plus 16GB storage

Thanks for the info but this thread is specifically for information and comments about the ariva 250 box. Perhaps best to start a new thread for the box you mentioned.

    Great glad its worked out.

I have an Ariva missing the front panel that has the model number on it, i thought it was a 150 and tried the clone method previously but i get ash now.
It may be a 120 or other model, any other way to confirm as stickers give nothing away?
Any ariva tools that might tell model number when connected with a null modem cable?
    thanks

The remote will tell you anyway tbh. See below.

ASH is temporary, Just means you flashed the wrong firmware. Its easily resoved with a null modem cable. 120 has a different upgrade tool to 150 as they are 2 different chipsets, M3602 and 3606. The method is the same though.

That's definitely a 120 .... all the writing is exactly the same as the 120 I have here.

EDIT: unless the 220 has exactly the same writing and physical appearance ..... ?

Could be a 220 too. More likely to be a 120 though. They were more commonly sold. Only one way to find out

    Firmware for 120 here

Firware Upgrade Tool for 120 here

Instructions for recovery with null modem cable.

Recovery instructions for ARIVA boxes temporarily bricked.

    1. Download the latest firmware. Extract the .abs file from this zipped file to somewhere obvious (desktop for example).

    2. Download the Erom Upgrade tool.

    Extract the files.

    3. Connect your PC from its serial port to the boxes R232 port using the Null modem cable. Make sure box is off at switch on back.

    4. Double click the ArivaUpgrader.exe file that was extracted. It will pull up a dialog box. Select the Com port - default is 1. Baud Rate should be 115200. Parity=Even. Operate Mode= Upgrade. Include bootloader should be ticked.

Pick the software you extracted as per No.1 above in the browse bar.

Click next. Turn box on. Box will reboot when the file gets to 100%.

Connect to box of same model type, keep box to be cloned / copied on then power up the box on which you wan to copy the firmware and channel list. After a few mins the process will be complete and you will have two identical box setups.

If you have another model of this box, could you not tell straight off what model it was ???:D

    Cloning eh.

Problem is the 120 is at my mums and i did not notice the fact that the writing on top of box was unique to the 120, cover is missing on the box and it was in the cupboard for a while, between my own box, siblings boxes and my mums ariva it gets confusing as a mixture of 120's 150's and 250's on the go.
    Will know in future ;)

I had to go down the upgrade tool method but sorted now.
Had to upgrade the usb to serial driver but proceeded as described then. Now that ash is gone i will try the 120 to 120 box method.
    Thanks to all

Im getting a lot of stuttering on Saorview channels especially RTE 1, not an aerial problem as far as I can see, its more like when you try to watch a very HD video on a pc that doesnt have the specs to handle it, that kind of stutter. Turning the box on and off will fix it for a while but then it will start again another night, any clue what it might be? Satellite channels are perfect. Live pause/rewind is turned off so I doubt its a hdd issue...
This seems to be confined to RTE One now, everything else is perfect.

Is there any digital version of the "Fine Tune" option you used to have on analogue tuners?

Also is that version of RTE One the only one currently broadcasting? Is there an SD version I could try on Saorview or HD on a different frequency?

This sounds like the signal for your mux with RTE 1 HD channel is weak. You'd have more errors on a HD channel than an SD in borderline scenarios.

Adjusting the aerial seems to have resolved this thankfully, which is weird because I have perfect reception downstairs in a different room with a 2 foot length of cable from a broken aerial and the Ariva is connected to a massive aerial in the attic...

Yup understand that the box is E.O.L. but was wondering if there was an updated file with channel lists that I could just flash the boxes with and be up and running with minimal effort.

I put a terrabyte hdd in the parents Ariva for them to record to, theres about 660 GB used with 300 GB free according to both the Ariva and plugging it into my pc but whenever I try to record anything it just pops up a message saying "LIMIT: Can Not Record", does anyone know if that is the limit or whats the story?

This HDD formatted in NTFS ?

In the back of my mind I have 500GB as the limit, but given you have surpassed that!!!

Go in and turn off timeshift and see if that has any effect. Otherwise you'll have to start deleting stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,967 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Timeshift has been turned off since day one, I'm going to try moving it all to my laptop, reformatting it with the Ariva and then moving the files back, bit of a pain though.

I dont think the channels changed recently, someone else can confirm.

If some of the other channels are freezing or breaking up, then you dish may have rusted, moved in the recent winds etc. If that is the case ask whoever installed the dish to fix it, it may need a new dish if it is more than 3 years old as they rust quickly. I would not recommend having a go yourself as you really need test equipment and some experience.

I bought an ARIVA 250 off the net second hand but starting to think I should have just purchased a new pre configured one :).
-I can get most saorview channels but do not pick up RTE 2 (maybe the aerial as its an indoor cheap usb aerial).
-I have scanned for Satellite channels and get no BBC, Channel 4, UTV. I do get other channels such as CNN, challenge and shopping channels.

I really only want the BBCs , Chanel 4s, UTVs and saorview. I have updated the firmware but the channels I receive are still the same. I have tried satellites Astra 2a and Eurobird 1 and I am using a Sky dish.

Does someone have the channel list that I can install via USB or any other ideas on how to get the missing channels. Thanks.
Also if anyone can recommend a indoor aerial that may work better for the Saorview. I do use the same aerial on a TV with built in Saorview and it works fine. Thanks.

If you had Sky Q before you may need to change the LNB on the dish.

all frequencys are wrong if u cant get a list do a blind search on astra 28

I can do a blind scan on ASTRA 2A which shows as E 28.2 for me. I get lots of channels just not channel 4, bbc or UTVs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

A blind scan should find ~950 channels. Either try your box on a known working, non Q dish or borrow a known working, non Q box and try it on your dish. That way you'll know if it is your dish or box at fault.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,422 ✭✭✭Avns1s

Try deleting all of the channels you have scanned so far and redo the blind scan but on Eurobird 1 instead of Astra.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,967 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Surely if he's getting Challenge and a few others the dish is fine? There have been some times on the Ariva where I've had to set it to Eurobird in order to get Astra channels from a scan though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

Not necessarily. Satellite tuners use 4 different bands controlled by a signal from the box to the LNB on the dish. It is possible for an LNB or box to fail in such a way that it only works on some bands. You would then get some but not all channels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,967 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Yeah but how often does that happen tbh? Not reason enough to go messing with the dish alignment or changing the LNB at this stage anyway, Id say its most likely the Eurobird/Astra issue, reset and rescan. Same for his Saorview issues, probably trying to use the existing settings from wherever it was posted, delete everything and start over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 75 ✭✭corkmans1

Hello, thanks for all the tips

I have Reset box and see current firmware V1.31B2 and this is the most up to date version available seemingly.
Blind scan on eurobird 1 for FTA channels only gave 164 channels.... should it be more?
again no channel 4s, bbc, utv

    Deleted channels
Blind scan on eurobird 1 gave 805 Channel total (mix of FTA and paid channels ) again no channel 4s, bbc, utv

    Deleted channels
Blind scan on Astra 2A for FTA channels gave 110 channels, again no channel 4s, bbc, utv

    Deleted channels
Blind scan on Astra 2A gave 787 Channel total (mix of FTA and paid channels ) again no channel 4s, bbc, utv

I can take the box to my fathers house during the week and see if using his satellite makes any difference. Any other ideas in the mean time appreciated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

Satellite boxes use tables of settings for each satellite. For convenience they use the sat names but in the end it's just a list of frequencies. Often these frequencies overlap between sats so that you will sometimes still get results even if using the wrong sat name. In this case Astra 2A and Eurobird 1 were both retired in mid 2015 so that shows how out of date your lists are. If no one can supply you with up to date info then the only option is to manually add the missing Transponder (TP) tuning details. Dave from freetv has some videos on his site for the 252 which I think is similar.
This site lists all the FTA channels info.
    For example Channel 4 HD is on 11127 V 22000 5/6 DVB-S QPSK

Thanks very much Gerry, I will try this and if no luck will just purchase a new box that is set up. I really wanted to buy something cheap to begin with just to see was it okay moving from lets say RTE to BBC and this box seemed fine moving from RTE to other FTA channels so happy enough that to go and purchase a new one. Any suggestions on a box to get? and I suppose be better off to get it from fret as they are programmed and have channel list already applied.

Before you go off and buy a new box, have you checked if you can receive the missing channels on someone elses box? Can you borrow a box to check?

You could change the box and find that you still have the same problem.

Also, have you tried a scan on the other cable from the LNB that you should have had with Sky+?

Finally, if you go to Menu > Installation > Antenna Setup...... check that the LNB Frequency is set to "Universal (9750-10600)" and your Polarity is set to "Auto".

To be honest, I'd be looking at the LNB rather than the box.

I have manually added transponder mentioned by gerry "For example Channel 4 HD is on 11127 V 22000 5/6 DVB-S QPSK" and it said the transponder was already added. I searched this responder only and it said No Programs Found. I also checked 10714 H 22000 5/6 which was suppose to give channel 4 and this also said no channels found.

I know my father has his own dish which is not a sky dish so I will try get the box unto him over the weekend and try it there. I think he may also have a FTA box that I can borrow and try in my house. I will let you the result once done. Thanks to all.
