Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It appears female artists aren't as popular as male artists in the Irish charts.

    Why?

You guessed it: because of white men.

The irony being that chart music has always skewed heavily towards female audiences and that female audience skews even more towards male artists/bands.

That article could have been shortened to a single line: Irish commercial radio; what a ball o' shyte.

Switch between 2FM, Today FM and iRadio and see how often it's a guy on his own. Aside from oldies and weekend slots it ain't too often.

I definitely heard yer one Louise o Neill referring to someone as woke in a positive sense..
Also heard her calling for people to "burn it all down"..

And there's no reason whatsoever a woman shouldn't be in the charts.. but like, the most recent reasonably local female I heard was singing a song about her own name..

I notice the male artists they reckon are unfairly topping the charts include the likes of Picture This, Niall Horan, Westlife, and Dermot Kennedy.

Now I won't claim to have done any in depth market research but the vast majority of the fans of those acts would be women.

Here's a gallery of a Niall Horan concert; look at any crowd facing shots and amongst the hundreds of faces the only men are Niall and his band:
    http://christiantierney.com/niall-horan

But apparently men only dominate the charts because men conspire to put them there by discriminating against female artists, and nothing to do with the droves of women who voluntarily choose to buy/stream the men's songs instead of the womens?

I dont feel its a slur and i am cis.

    It is a slur

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,195 ✭✭✭99nsr125

Who uses it as a slur?

Also i think snoop dog does think the n word is a slur.

I think its a slur not to call me a cis female to be honest. It means people won't know i was born and still identify as female 100%

Natural (biological) woman is the description you're avoiding in your repressed wokeness

The Principal of Edinburgh University called the Police because "offensive" stickers were found on campus that said “Female is a biological reality” and “Woman. Noun. Adult human female”. The stickers are offensive to trans people apparently.

Biological facts and grammer are offensive and the Police need to be called.

Should be done for wasting police time.

Do we know if the police actually came out to investigate, or did they tell him to catch himself on?

Heres the issue with this. Activists want everyone to acknowledge and respect the rights of LGBTAlphabet, but refuse to acknowledge and respect the right of a person to just not care. I have no issues with anyone wanting to identify with whatever they want, doesn't really bother me as it has no impact on my life whatsoever.

However, by me simply saying I don't care, I've no interest, I'm being labelled by these activists as some kind of phobia. Which completely goes against what they want me to do, acknowledge and respect peoples rights.

Do what we want you to do and nothing else. Sounds familiar.

So today is International Men’s day...what have the Irish Times gone with to mark the day? Something about mental health issues? Prostate cancer awareness?

    Nah. Nothing.

A sole article saying it’s bad because it diminishes women’s struggle

Identity politics has become a look for attention game and groups don't like another stealing theirs. This goes triple when the "oppressor" group - as defined by whichever oppressor/oppressed narrative is in play - gets it. And of course in the oppressor/oppressed narrative men are just about top of the oppressor tree. If you're a White, Straight, middle class man you get number one on top of the hit parade. It's always your fault. :D

And of course she rattles off the usual credo of paygaps, "discriminatory social norms"(spot the US campus speak) lack of social support for women etc. So mostly nonsense, more complex than stated, or utter bollocks. Today in Ireland a woman of say 20 can look forward to living longer than a man, being less likely to be homeless, an addict, dying on the job, being physically assaulted, having better wages up to the point where she starts a family, having more access to social support and more social support in general, being better educated, less likely to die by suicide and a few other metrics. About the only metric where the same woman is at far more risk than a man is sexual assault. Yep, clearly the average man has it so much better.

While I agree with his sentiment that it’s annoying having people saying “where’s international men’s day?” on 8th of March....can you blame them for not knowing?

IT have one single article about it and it’s criticism of it (compare to IWD where it’s wall to wall coverage)
The journal have nothing up about it...

It’s just obviously not something that journalists deem worthy of discussion. Which is fine, they’re free to write about whatever they like - but this total dearth of coverage is exactly why they’ll get “what about international men’s day” on 8th of March.

If I’m not getting a day off for it I don’t really care too much about it.

If the women start getting one for their day then I’ll be forced to join in the loser “MRAs” march for equality. Certainly won’t be going for a pint with any of them after though.

I have noticed a lot more ads are including same sex couples in recent times, which is grand and good. Just wondering how long it takes until the “hey that’s not enough” shouts start. We need more.

And speaking of ads, this might be taken in bad taste or deemed unpopular but it seems to me that people of colour are almost getting shoehorned into them recently.

Rosa Silverman who wrote the article is actually married, yikes.

She has also written the article "The day my husband was caught on The Apprentice with another woman"..
As the show is filmed months in advance, it's understandable how her husband didn't initially remember.
But finally, he did, and confirmed that he was having a coffee with a mutual friend of theirs.

    Great wife altogether...

Whenever Ian Dempsey used to play Monty Python’s ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ there’d be a “beep” in place of the word shít.

Could they not just do the same for ‘Fairytale’? I mean, I’d much rather listen to the original with a tiny edit than a terrible cover version, or not at all.

Actually "retard" is an interesting example of how words can be added to the Church of the Latter Day Offended's catechism. Ten years ago it was a huge meme off the back of a mainstream Hollywood blockbuster, today that script would be cut to pieces and "retard" is sooo despicable and verboten. On the other hand idiot, imbecile, moron, feeble minded while hardly polite wouldn't raise an eyebrow, yet just like retard all words once used to medically describe those with intellectual disabilities or conditions.
