    DC KO/TKO
I think we'll see a better dc than the first fight but whether that's going to be good enough I really don't know
you would imagine dc will have been killing himself to try and get the loss back and I really hope he does
I think at the odds dc might be worth a punt given how long its been since jones last fought....maybe I'm just clutching at straws opposing the most talented fighter on the planet...just want the man to win so badly

same goes for maia but I'm holding no hope there for him sadly, he'll be made stand for most of this and that won't be good for him, I predict a lot of booing in the opening round with very little actually happening

I hate to bring this up but Jon Jones only fight in the USADA era was the OSP fight and he looked... human?

Everyone has heard the story of him hiding under the cage in the gym to avoid the drug testers but I'm not buying his cocaine excuse for that one. Both of his brothers have been popped for steroids in the NFL as well. All I'm saying is it's something to bear in mind. DC is adamant that Jones was always using steroids.

Let's assume he's totally clean and was always clean - it's still a massive amount of inactivity to overcome against an elite opponent. If he comes back and performs to the exact same level of the OSP fight, DC will run through him.

As for Maia, I'm sounding like a broken record but the size difference between them is incredible. It's going to visually look like Weidman v Gastelum. Demian is a massive welterweight and at some point size does matter. Every fight Maia goes into, people think he's going to get tooled up on the feet...I was guilty of that myself, I thought Condit would make mince meat of him standing. Despite all of that, he was hit more by Masvidal than his previous 6 opponents combined. He just finds ways to get it to the mat without taking damage, it's impressive.

I'm obviously biased here because I love Maia and DC but the most obvious scenario I see is the same we see every fight - Maia finds a way to drag him to the mat, takes his back and Woodley watching the clock praying to make it to the bell.

I'll be gutted if Woodley lands a haymaker to be fair. Nothing against him at all but it's hard not to warm to Maia.

I put a few quid on Cormier with Betfair the other day at about 3/1. I can't check how much right now because the site is down for maintenance. I'm more betting on Jones to f**k it up and lose than I am on Cormier to win. I just don't think Jones has the character to do everything he needs to do. I'm basing this, I suppose, on things that are not directly to do with his fighting ability: more the drugs, the DUIs, the viagra or whatever it was, and his general two-facedness, and the lay-off. I don't see how he can be rock-solid mentally with all of that baggage in his background.

Am I right that this is on about 7am our time? I might actually pay for this one and get up and watch it.

Finally allowing myself to get excited about the Jones/DC fight, **** hitting the fan surely incoming!

Big fan of both men, two superb competitors. I think if Jones is at his best he will come through it and win but if he is at the same level of performance as he was against OSP he will get beaten I think and have gone for DC by submission on the poll as it just stood out to me when the page opened.

I actually hope we get a 5 round war and a split decision for DC to set up the trilogy :D

Jones plays it off like this fight is just another one, that its his era and doesn't want to make any fight bigger then it is, but this is huge for him and his legacy. He is already an ATG but he wants to go down as the GOAT and this is a very important step on that journey.

Main card is 3am so with Dc/Jones the 5th of 5 fights it is probably on no earlier than 5am by my calcs. If earlier fights go to points they will prob still have filler video to hype up the title fights. Could be closer to 530am.

Although Cyborg will prob finish yer wan in rd 1.

Was "I cracked my skull" a weird off-the-cuff reference to poor Cyborg Santos??

DC looks drained and exhausted. Jones looks fresh as a daisy. Jimi Manuwa looks shredded. Caroline Pearce looks her usual self!

Interesting tidbits in there... Jones says he wants the Brock Lesnar fight, DC said he'll fight Stipe if Cain is ok with it and Manuwa says he had a conference call with Dana and David Haye about fighting Haye, possibly in the O2 Arena, when Haye is ready.

Ha funny you mention that. DC joked he doesn't want to fight Gus again (too hard), Manuwa says he'll never ever fight Gus again (too close friendship) and Jones didn't seem too keen on the idea in a separate interview.

They all know Alex is a beast and a tough fight.

When bones beats DC surely its got to be the next step at LWH ? if anyone is left at LHW.

Are we really gonna put Jimi Manuwa next in line?

Providing Jones doesnt end up in prison, I'd love to see it headline New Years card or something, let Manuwa fight DC for the #1 contender spot on the same card would be cool, too awesome to happen so I'll stop dreaming.

So Dana White and Joe Rogan publicly question Cyborg's gender, yet we're not allowed to on here?

Seems a bit odd. I'm honestly not sure. Like seriously, there seems a very questionable status of Cyborg, as well as the drugs and testosterone.

Dana and Joe basically made jokes about her gender as opposed to questioning it if i remember correctly.

    She's obviously a woman...just a juiced up one...

Regarding Cyborg there's a couple of things we can state as a fact.

First of all, she's all woman!

Secondly, she factually popped for Stanozolol in 2011, which is an anabolic steroid. More recently she received a Therapeutic Use Exemption in dubious circumstances for spironalactone, which is a diuretic commonly used as a masking agent for steroids.

So she's been a cheater in the past and deserves suspicion.

Lastly, she's not indestructible. Jorina Baars dropped her multiple times and beat her convincingly in that Muay Thai war they put on in 2014. I'd actually quite fancy Valentina Shevchenko to beat Cyborg. She has a great chin, her judo and kickboxing is amazing and her ground game is extremely tricky, so it wouldn't be a picnic. I'd love to see that fight.

Shevchenko not too small dont you think ? She doesnt even cut weight for batamweight.

I think holly holm could bring her trouble and i reckon that what the ufc will book next if cyborg wins on saturday

She's undersized but no worse than Lina Lansberg size wise and Cyborg didn't exactly walk through Lina and Valentina will be throwing a lot more back.

Yeah I agree, Holly can beat Cyborg too if she sticks behind her jab and kicks and turns it into a kickboxing match. To be honest I think Amanda Nunes could beat her as well but she's doing that "I won't fight my friends" spiel.

Just reminds me so much of the East German women who unknowingly took anabolic steroids in the 80s

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas_Krieger

Difference here is Cyborg knows what she was taking.

Her excuse was "bad weight cut". That was her excuse for both the anabolic steroids in 2011 and the diuretic in 2016. I'm not buying it.

Not trying to excuse her behaviour but in 2011 and during the TRT-era I think most fighters were using. Especially the Brazilians.

The thing is I've seen studies that say the long-term-benefits of steroid use can last many, many years. So she's still got residual ongoing benefits from however many years she was cheating.

Controversial opinion but I think Germaine had a point in her refusal to fight her. Easy to make jokes about her being scared but if she genuinely felt it wouldn't be a fair fight, then kudos to her for taking a stand.

Honestly, the difference it makes to a woman's metabolism is scientifically proven and clear to see. I think it's insane that she's allowed to compete.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,523 ✭✭✭kwestfan08

The thing that irks me about GDR not fighting Cyborg is when she signed up for a featherweight title fight who did she expect to be facing next? A division and belt specifically brought in for Cyborg. Stands to reason there's a good chance it would be her first title defense and she was just like nah.

Now forever she can say she was a UFC champ and you can't take that away from her but when it comes in a fight were she clearly hit Holly twice after the bell and refuses to fight the only true featherweight on the roster, does it even mean anything?

That was so funny, even DC was breaking his bollix laughing.

Luke Thomas just asked a really thoughtful question to Jon Jones about how he'd reflect on his 20's after he just turned 30...

Jones goes "I don't really like you Luke so I'm not gonna answer your question".

It could land but here's the thing - one of the main ways Woodley lands his right hand is that people are worried about the level-change. Most of Woodley's opponents are petrified of him taking them down, so they have to watch out for that and the overhand right.

Maia will be delighted if Woodley double-legs him and gets him to the mat, he'd be confident off his back against Woodley.

So, all he has to watch for is the overhand and that makes things easier. I'm not saying Woodley will be a picnic to sweep but you'd have to imagine Demian fancies his chances.

He was a massive Jones fan, he even cancelled his podcast for a week when Jones was arrested for the pregnant hit n run... but he turned on him after the UFC 200 debacle:

"'I am sick of talking about what Jon Jones should or shouldn't do ... let's stop being his parents ... I just don't care (about him) anymore"'.

"Is anybody surprised? This guy's propensity to self-sabotage is off-the-charts".
