Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yep, it's very likely. And she has some street cred after the Flaming Lips stuff and headlining Primavera Sound last May.

    But I'll be elsewhere....

Autre Monde played last year too, I had them down as one to go to, but naturally enough I didn't make it.

Not long to wait for the announcement, until we find out who we'll all be giving out about.

Yeah, I caught a couple of songs at the Salty Dog but Paddy seemed pretty out of it and they were clashing with someone or other so I moved on. Like their stuff though, I'd certainly have a look this year. Know the drummer, Eoghan O'Brien a bit, nice fella.

So rumour has it that Taylor Swift is booked into a fancy Dublin hotel the weekend of EP. Could be a coincidence I suppose but she's doing plenty of festivals this summer, we might get herself and Miley possibly?

Upon re reading that last paragraph I think I should go and reassess my life.

Ah, sure why not. A simpler sartorial spot than Smiths t-shirts.

Also Stormzy was rumoured online recently but have been told that he is definitely not doing EP this year. 3 Arena only for him

"Hello, yes I'd like to book 13 rooms for 7 months time. The name? Taylor Swift" :pac:

she's not doing any festivals/gigs in Europe after July, basically zero chance she'll be at EP.

Miley is quite possible, she was decent enough at Primavera as last minute replacement for Cardi B.

Ah sur look I really am not bothered either way. The booking in the hotel is apparently confirmed alright, maybe she's just having a nice holiday and wants to write a song about meeting some fella in Temple bar that she will hate in the future.

Bits of LCD, lots of early Human League heavy synth. No standout tunes but it all sounds good. They play here a lot (as does Paddy Hannah) as signed to a Galway label.

They're not going to break through like the Fontaines or Murder Capital but they could have a very good 2020. The Irish Times gave the album a great review yesterday.

As you consistently say these are good times for the Irish music scene.

If its genuine then she must surely be headlining EP, it would be far too big a coincidence not to be.

I know a lot don't like him but Norman Cook is doing the rounds this year again, last EP visit was 2013 I think?

The only downer on the sheer brilliance of 2005.

The dross that ruined the comedown from the stunning Valentines in 2013.

I try not to slag off artists but if he's booked again I may have to make an exception.

I kinda enjoyed his set, it is what it is which is a pre-mixed light show.

The time he wore the Norman Cook mask of himself freaked the crap out of me.

Saw about 15 minutes of him at Forbidden Fruit in 2015. Absolutely ****e. Hes a truly awful DJ, without a decent tune in 20 years (and they were few and far between even back then). People slag off the likes of Deadmau5, Calvin Harris etc but to me FBS is the worst of the lot by a long shot.

Any hope of Rufus Du Sol this year?

My body was vibrating, with the wall of sound.
    Tremendous set (MBV, not FBS...)

Just looking at that poster - he's billed as an 'acoustic solo performance'.
Unlike his current Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes tour, where the Radiohead frontman is accompanied by Nigel Godrich and visual artist Tarik Barr, his set at Victoria Park will see him take the stage solo – performing tracks from his own back-catalogue as well as Radiohead’s in a never-seen-before way.

    Colour me intrigued...

I'm definitely considering a weekend trip now.
Sat: Tame Impala, Caribou, Glass Animals, Whitney, the Avalanches, Rolling Blackouts CD, Kelly Lee Owens
Sun: Massive Attack, Thom Yorke, Young Fathers

That, for me, is better than most full weekend festival line-ups.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,207 ✭✭✭maximoose

Very tempted too - only thing holding me back is the experience at APE last year, sound was abysmal and the organisation was pretty poor.

Closest you’ll get is the Heaton/Abbott tour, they do some housemartins, beautiful south with their own stuff, saw a few years ago, well worth it.

Yeah, the brother in law has seen them a few times, loves them. Have they ever hit the festival circuit? They'd be a great early evening slot on the Sunday. Their tour dates this year seem to dry up in early July. I know they're doing Trinity.

Here for a few gigs in April, setlists very good. Confirmed for a few Summer festivals, including Primavera Sound, up to 4 July and a strong rumour for Glastonbury. Fair chance of an appearance at an Irish festival.

Decent enough albums, but deathly dull live even when those albums were fresh. Oxegen 2004 was a dirge.

Am shocked they're at Primavera. The Beautiful South are one of the worst bands on the planet, just so dreadfully dull and MOR

Probably true, albeit with the odd decent tune. I guess Primavera and Glastonbury also want some of the Housemartins stuff he plays.

They're playing the 3Arena, Belfast, Galway & Killarney so they've got an audience somewhere. Tempted to go and check them out, though with reservations.

Heaton also remains a good socialist, which works for me. Reflected in the pricing of their UK and Irish tour - all tickets £30/€39.

It used to be a thing with Field Day there also. Noise restrictions after 8pm is the issue. Lots of residential housing close by. The sound is turned down and it often makes for a bad end to the day. No problems with sound before 8 in my experience.

It's a shame that it appeared to go so badly last year - the Strokes day, in particular, seemed to be a bit of a disaster.

I went in year 1 for LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc and it was brilliant. Only complaint was the length of bar queues late in the day but before about 8pm or 9pm, it was fine.

Sound was great, bands well staggered, an all round success... I was very surprised to hear so many bad reports from last year's edition!

Maybe listen to the lyrics more? they are a lot darker than people think.

That said, they are not for everybody so I can understand why you have that opinion :)
