Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've been seriously thinking of getting a pc engine/core Grafx, but them I'm looking at some of the game prices and I don't know if it's hole I want to fall into!

But the amount of arcade ports on that system is seriously impressive, very cool.

I was looking at the ninja warriors (which is an arm and a leg for the arcade triplescreen), but it was only released on the pc engine in Japan. Looks like a decent port. Then I saw the port on the megacd, really good! And the title music, and prologue added in, neat :)

This prologue is the megacd in a nutshell, brilliantly mad, but if you want to skip to one of the best theme tunes evaaaar, go to 3.50 min mark

Basically I'm mixed up about getting into other formats :p

Everyone should have a PC Engine. They're brilliant.

Games can get pricey alright, but there's always an Everdrive you can pick up to get around that.

And then there's this lad who sells those expensive RGB cables that I keep banging on about :pac:

The arcade version is on PS4, possibly Switch.

    It's not a great game.

What is a great game however is the stupidly expensive SNES version of the game. It's afar better and deeper game and is loads of fun.

But even better than that is the remake on PS4/Switch called The Ninja Saviors which enhances the already brilliant SNES original and makes it an even better game.

Honestly only really worth playing the SNES games and enhanced remake.

Just bought the PC Engine Mini from Amazon.jp, easiest €125 I ever spent!

Only question is, am I limited to the standard controller or is there an option out there to use a three or six button controller, as with the original console?

Not sure. I would have gotten the Core Grafx or the Turbografx for the turbo pad and Salamander, I assume you won't play Tokumeki Memorial anyway.

Is Salamander the only game in the difference between the formats?
I would imagine a hack will be incoming, as it has for every other "mini" format that will allow such additions to be made.

Anyhow, it'll sit nicely alongside my TG-16 and Turbo-Express

Salamader and the new port of Salamander. The two bonus games from Tokumeki can still be accessed via Salamander too.

I know the correct answer is to get a Trinitron but besides that what's the best way to connect a PS2 up to a big LCD? Are RGB SCARTs handy to come by?

If you have a later model fat PS2 with the inbuilt IR or the slim the best way would probably be a component cable.

These aren't too difficult to come by either as the PS3 has the same analogue av port.

I got lazy, and hooked a region free PS2 up to my 42" Plasma via a HDMI convertor... Outrun Coast2Coast looks amazing!
It is just an alternate version of the component output though, so the results are probably the same.

As someone just looking to try something different, is there any reason to not go with the EU PC Engine Mini? Not familiar with the system just want to try something different so not too clued up on the differences.

The only differences are the casing and one different game, Tokumeki Memorial(JP) or Salamander(US/EU). The only place that has them atm is Amazon Japan for €125 including shipping and VAT, about €10 more than the price on Amazon UK.

I have Salamander on the Famicom, Life Force on the NES and on the TG-16 via the Turbo Everdrive, so that should be enough until the system is hacked and I can add it myself.

Did anyone see the new Streets of Rage 4 trailer that came out yesterday?

You can play through it as the original characters and even with the Streets of Rage 1 & 2 soundtracks!

I've gone from vaguely interested to purchasing a physical copy from limited run games :D

Same here. I get paid on the 25th so have to get a physical one now.

Really looking like it will be fantastic. Huge roster of playable characters.

Wonder were any of the devs also involved in the still pretty active modding scene for SOR?

I'd say they have to at least playing some of the mods alright! I didn't know it was still active, that's this afternoons gaming sorted for me :D

Would love to see if I can get SOR4 going on a CRT, I wonder how difficult it is to downscale Switch's digital signal to 240p analogue?

    I need my own place.

My dad showed me a box in the shed. Said it was sitting there for over a year. Wanted to know whats in it as my mam found it in the attic and wants to throw it out.

My Neo Geo MVS board and supergun and all my MVS games....

I'll have to test it later to see if it's even working.

    Jaysus!

Best to bring it in and leave it there for a while before you turn it on.

Last thing you want to do is bring it in from the cold, water condenses on it and then causes a short.

Not sure if any of the regulars on here are playing Animal Crossing on the Switch? If you are and have Turnips to sell, my island is buying them for 562 bells each. Shop closes at 10pm though so let me know if you want to hop on over and make yourself a fortune. :pac:

That's madness, having played the newest and Wild World + City Folk over the years, I've never seen them anywhere close to that high, usually buy them for 100 and end up getting 80 for them at some stage during the week lol. I usually don't bother with them as they mostly lose me money and only last a short while (I remember hearing burying them in WW saves them longer years ago but that could be rubbish/misremembering).

So I set up a gaming page on Facebook with an old friend of mine called Cork Retro Gaming.

Going live this evening at 6pm playing The Getaway on the PS2 Emulator PCSX2, as it will look much better than via a capture device and the original.
I'm usually a bag nerves going on camera so hopefully I don't choke haha! But looking forward to it all the same! Tune in if you're bored of this quarantine situation!

Best of luck! Always great to see people being pro active in creating content.

Any reason why the Getaway? you a fan?

I haven't actually played it since it came out! Used to travel to London a lot back in those dates, so it was really amazing to see it recreated in a game.

I just had the urge to replay it on my PS2 and tiny BVM but then I said, why not live stream my gameplay on a bigger screen?

I'm sick to death of GTA games by now, the cartoony graphics especially and I personally think the Getaway is An underrated classic.
It just more realistic looking, has a dark and serious atmosphere.
There's absolutely no OSD, not even a GPS, no health bars.
All the vehicles in the game are real life models. it's a real map of London down to all the shop fronts. How they squeezed it into the PS2s memory is beyond me.
While it may not be as fun as GTA games I just find it a more realistic and authentic experience.

Nice, looking forward to watching :) Was considering doing some live streams myself from Level Up shortly, a mixture of our newer Jap machines and retro machines, maybe some pins whatever people want. Not sure if that'd be a thing people would be interested in or not though, but definitely would be something different than most streams.

Thanks :) Yeah I thought so, some jap stuff like Maimai is quite rare outside Japan, and the stuff like Star Wars and the drivers would be different from what most people stream since they're hard to emulate properly. It's just an idea but I'm leaning that way, the targeting would be the area I might fall down on.

Twitch has been having issues for most of the day from what I’ve been hearing.

There will be a Super Mario Kart Time Trial tournament next month. Format is to be worked on but hopefully it will go live on Speedgaming same as our GP tournament.

I’ll do much better in TT and it will be great practice for our world championship which will be held (hopefully) In France later this year.

What kind of cheese am I looking at to be able to burn roms? Like a no-frills-but-works programmer?

I have a bunch of arcade boards missing roms and I'm trying to decide if it's worth the effort to buy a programmer and roms, or use a service or something instead. I'm pretty sure t would end up gathering dust for 99% of its life after this batch.

Would it be around 100/150 with necessary roms?

    It's a pain!

Haha :D I'm actually alright at the game, I've gotten into many a drunk battle with buddies on the thing so much so that I can now pass the advanced levels (pass is 80%+), up to about level 8 difficulty. I'm usually the retro head down there but it's definitely a fun game.

Pretty sure I've seen a few people do Level 9 and 10 though some nights, there's a few around here who are unbelievable at the thing.

I believe this is Level 10:

Cheers! As I said I probably will at least trial it but still weighing up my options and curious if there'd be any point as I'm not sure what interest there'd be, but some 2 player stuff like on the racers would probably be entertaining too but it would have to be safe, so probably with just housemates maybe.

Always worth a try especially if you have what you need already to do it but you could probably use it again when stuff gets back to normal/normalish for tourneys.
