    This is NOT an Ibex!!!f3d06df9-ae7b-4761-a602-cac3ab3f7974.jpg

    Nor is this!!
    f3762955-2e60-4ba7-ac22-51d5dd755462.jpg

In fact WTF is this?A sheep with goats horns?? Seriously this looks like a spoof photo.

Certainly not an Ibex, unless it is the rare Wicklow Ibex.
    ade597c1-1b58-426e-a3bc-8816dedf80aa.jpg
and BTW trying to pass off old Irish goats as "Ibex goats" as another shower is trying to do on Celtic hunting is just pure conmanship. An Ibex and a goat are two different species.Although they are both from the Capra family ,the feral domestic wild Irish goat and the Ibex are like saying A Irishman is the same as an Englishman.

First one is a Mountain Blackface, or Scottish Blackface sheep.

Second one looks like a Jacob sheep to me.
Probably a ram, but still a traditional British domesticated breed.

If there's a tag in his ear, some farmer might be handing out a " paddling " to them.

Well,I'll be damned it is a Jacobs sheep. You live and learn....But it's still not an Ibex. And FIK you cant hunt domestic sheep with a bow here either.:pac:
The German hunting sites are going to love this one!:)

I know a few farmers that would be all over this in a flash if they think they can charge rich yanks a few hundred quid to chase sheep around the farm with a bow and arrow - if they've to glue horns on their heads and call them ibex they wouldn't have a problem with it!

  • Registered Users Posts: 535 ✭✭✭solarwinds

Yep i can see it now hunting with bows and arrows. But before we let you loose into the wild you have to do a €900-00 course lasting 8 days before you are deemed safe enough to use pointy sticks.
Mark my words that idea is floating in someones head sure this is ireland someone is drafting the course already.

Strange that you need a firearms licence for a crossbow here, even a low power one, but you don't for a bow, regardless of how powerful. Some of those compound hunting bows are a similar size and just as powerful (if not more so) as a crossbow. Wonder what the logic (if any) behind it is. Crossbows were quite popular in my youth, but I presume there's very few of them in the country nowadays.

    Restricted license at that.

As bows cannot be used for hunting there is no need to regulate them, i'm guessing.

A spate of robberies using crossbows around 1990 led to their licensing.

The bow needs a lot of practice to get used to, so a crim is probably not going to consider it, plus a lot of bows are large compared to crossbows, so not too easy to conceal or even fit easily into a vehicle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,946 ✭✭✭✭Grizzly 45

You are more or less using both hands with a bow and it's harder to aim is probably "the logic "that was used back then.Plus a bow is not just easily picked up and used as a gun or X bow, even though an Xbow shoots completely different to a rifle as well.
However, they hadn't reckoned with mad German inventors like Georg Sprave of Slingshot channel fame, :D going and building repeating compound bows in his tool shed,or such things as Slingbows[Combination of slingshot and Xbow, strong enough to take down a deer as well and are becoming a big thing in the US in primitive weapons deer season] Both 100% legal here in the ROI too.

R Lee Emery aka The Gunny or better known as Drill instructor Hoffmann from Full Metal Jacket fame has passed away and gone to the great US Marine Corps barracks in the sky. A strong pro-gun advocate he will be sadly missed.

Colin Greenwood, probably less known to younger shooters died in Nov 2017.Former editor of the famous UK "Guns Review" mag, former Coldstream Guards soldier, former Yorkshire West Riding police superintendent, he was a champion for UK shooting rights and fought tirelessly against both the semi-auto and handgun bans in the UK as a key contributor to the firearms consultative committee.A tough dour Yorkshireman, whom I had the honour of meeting once.

His advice to me on gun rights legislation fights was this"Keep fighting them, even when they're taking your stuff out your front door and it's gone, keep fighting them. " Words to live by.

I didn't know Colin Greenwood had gone. Used to buy the review magazine regularly, as it was less interested in stately homes and the social circles of the upper crust, and more interested in guns of all types.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,946 ✭✭✭✭Grizzly 45

Was a great mag, and as you said never had anything on stately homes unless it was in relation to firearm inventors issuing from them.I have one of Greenwood's earlier LE books that I bought from Paladin Press, now also defunct since last year, whose first adverts I saw in Guns Review. It was a sad marker of the decline and fall of UK gun ownership, from a time when you could purchase surplus semi-auto Bren guns or HKG3s on either a shotgun cert[ shooting smoothbore 410s] or your FAC with both the selector and sear welded in semi auto,to post Hungerford,well...Not much..:(

    Ahern walks out of interview.

Secret accounts, massive amounts of unaccountable money, a tribunal (what a monumental waste of tax payers money) that found him to be a liar and dishonest, forced resignation from his party, etc. and he has the neck to sit there and smile and think he can run for Presidency?

Sad and scary part is some will actually believe his bullsh*t and vote for him. Almost our version of Killary without the murder rate. The man should be locked up, not thinking of running for Aras.

Don't be for one second surprised if he actually gets it. I have yet to meet anyone outside of a small section of Dublin who voted for FF when he got in the third time.
He has a following like Trump where no matter what he says or does, support him no matter what.

Yeah, the interviewers in RTE (pravda mk2) were not known for their blistering attacks on the ruling classes here, bertie probably got a very nasty shock when your man got dug into him.

Maybe it will cause him to retire back into the cupboard under the stairs from whence he came.

Dug into him???....SHEESH he'd hardly started!!

To use a boxing analogy, that was only a few light sparring punches at the beginning of round one and Bertie threw in the towel and jumped out of the ring and ran for the exit!

True enough, but he knew what was coming. Who else is tipped to run for the presidency ? None other but RTE pita Miriam O'Callaghan. Sometimes this country would make you sick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,946 ✭✭✭✭Grizzly 45

Miriam pulled out as well..Could try Kevin Sharkey? He is black after all, and in these PC days, Ireland must show its PC credentials...
TBH we could abolish the office of President here, as it is like an expensive retirement home for has-beens, comeback kids, kooks, nuts and flakes, wannabes and also-rans where only TDs and people who went to the "right kind" of Dublin colleges can vote for future inhabitants,AKA The Senad.

The office of Irish president is that of an animated expensive rubber stamp that goes off on world tours occasionally on our cents.Like the Senad it has no legislative power in its office. The Irish system of government is actually modelled on the US system of the President, the Senate and Congress. All three have to be in lockstep to pass legislation in the US.Here it is a bastardised, neutered system with all legislative power being in the Dail. The only power the Irish president has is commander in chief of the armed forces, and when was the last time we invaded or became a global power?
So it is really utterly irrelevant who is president here. They are a figurehead who cost us money, nothing else.Might as well leave the Hobbitt& wife in there for another five years,he might write another few Gaelic Hikayus about being a Socialist vegan or the like.

Has anyone rewaxed a Barbour jacket?

Videos on the internet show it be very straightforward, but has anyone got any tips / tricks / advice?

    Cheers

Did one years ago. I remember standing the tin of wax in a pot of boiling water. When the wax had melted i rubbed it into the jacket with a small sponge. If you can warm the jacket even better. Hanging it in an airing cupboard might work.

I would never buy another barbour jacket again. Like landrovers, they are completely over rated and much too expensive for what they are. I have one that i use on the bike, last time i looked at it in the wardrobe, it was falling asunder.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,946 ✭✭✭✭Grizzly 45

As Gunny said.Overrated and now surpassed by better.Their material quality has gone down remarkably as well.I had two Gamefair jackets, one made in 1983, which survived till 1999 until it was too short in the sleeves, which were ragged.
The replacement bought in 00 now looks like a relic from ww1 trench warfare.Where the old one shrugged off barb wire or whitethorns, the 00 has rips all over it:(.
TBH for the bother of re-waxing, I'd just send it back to Barbour and let them do it, and any repairs needed. It's a PITA job to do right and never really comes off with the factory finish. They must wax them in a sauna, because "room temp" is never enough to get the wax into the cloth.:(

Yup, i was reading on one of the uk shooting forums, Barbour's name was mud. They went from tough good quality longlasting clothes for the farming, fishing, shooting set, to trendy wear for townie yuppie types, and quality suffered accordingly.

A bit like victorinox knives, i have an old one which had excellent steel and would remain sharp for ages after honing, and a new one which is made from monkey metal as far as i can tell.

    Seen this on Facebook.

It's a buyback scheme and while i doubt it's veracity it violates FBs rules on buying/selling.

Should be reported by all. FB cannot allow one group to buy/sell and ban all others simply because it believes their reasons are "just".

Reported. If they say it doesn't violate standards, report that.

I reported some pictures that called for jews to be burned in ovens, was told it was ok by FB standards. Reported that response and it was taken down in minutes and got an apology.

    Yup.

Double standards is sickening. They won't let you buy or sell in case some snowflake gets offended but it's fine if its based on an anti gun sentiment.
