Specials are mug bets invented by brokers to entice early money for the bookies bankroll.

There is a huge possibility that any of the above named fancies won't even run. In particular Honeysuckle, she could come into season or get a a setback, that happened last year. The Arkle will be very competitive for Notebook, Minello Indo is hit and miss etc.

You spot some value in specials plus these aren’t bookies specials they are requested ones by punters as the other year i had one which said Paul Nicholls to have the foxhunter winner at 7/1 and he had about 4/5 in the race when Paca Du Polder won it.

BDM currently 50/1 for the GC
thats a HUGE ew price surely to God!!!

Are antepost not automatically 3 places regardless of the number of runners?

Backed Verdana Blue at 33s e/w for the Champion Hurdle. Don't see her quoted for the Mares.

With all this talk today of Henderson and his shenanigans ruling Altior out of Kempton
wouldn't know where he'd send his two higher in the betting:

Epatante could go for the Mares and
Pentland Hills might be ruled out through some bs injury or just stay at home with a different target in
    mind.

And then there's Fusil Raffles at a similar price - wouldn't be surprised if he was "one for later".

A better jock than Jerry McGrath up and you never know, assuming, and it's a pretty big assumption I know,
    that she goes there.

Should really wait for NRNB but I rarely do

Verdana Blue isn't going to Cheltenham.

I don't think its far off to say the Mares Hurdle would be tougher to win than the champion hurdle this year

Bdd is a very good horse and Honeysuckle looks special so she could go to the champion hurdle if she wins the Irish champion hurdle

When are the shops going NRNB. I would have thought they would have on the main races by now.

    It is far off.
The mares hurdle will never be harder to win than the champion. Riduculous to say otherwise.

Wasn't aware of that - shows how much I know :o

On another similar note more belated "news" from what must be a female British version, though on a much smaller scale, of WPM - Jefferson

Never keeps punters informed on her only stable star - I'm especially thinking of Cheltenham last year when she was worried the ground wouldn't be soft enough for him, but with less than a week to go when the ground was as soft as he'd want she decides to pull him.

Paddy Power have a list of non runner money back on a lot of individual horses now for Cheltenham. Prices nothing to get too excited about!

That was partly my thinking as well.... Mares might well be seen to be the better race of the two after the fact - by the experts

Ruth Jefferson literally tweeted that news and always tweets if any of her stock get injured. Ryanair last year wasn't soft either, Aintree was soft hence he ran there.

    Absolute nonsense.
Apples Jade was beaten 1.5l into third 2 years ago behind BDD, with the 145-150 rated Midnight Tour in 2nd.
Apples Jade was tailed off beaten c. 30l in last year's Champion Hurdle (what a lot of people consider a bad renewal).

Certainly one of the better antepost 33/1 shots. I think last years novice hurdlers were a mediocre bunch. And considering Buveur, Melon and Espoir D'allen are all missing for one reason or another, it leaves it wide open for a smash and grab job by a seasoned hurdler. I said this last season too that Supasundae is a Champion Hurdle and not a World Hurdle horse but I was ignored. I still stand by it though.

Aye, doing the opposite of what the majority do can sometimes pay off.... You don't have to be right too often....

He came 7th in the stayers that Supasundae, couldn't have done much worse in the Champion...

The favorite for the Champion Hurdle was 9th in the Mares Novice last season that's how bad the Champion Hurdle is

BDD has much better form and Honeysuckle has just as good form if not better

If BDD and Honesuckle were declared for the Champion Hurdle both would be at the top of the market and I expect Honeysuckle to run in the Champion Hurdle

It's possible she's improved. Regardless, the market doesn't always get it right. Apples Jade was favourite for both of the races I mentioned. Judging a race on the pre-race favourite rather than the result/performance of the winner isn't a good tactic.
    Nuts102 wrote: »

Similar form to Apples Jade? Winning the same races and beating the same horses she beat easily. She came up almost 30l short though.
    Nuts102 wrote: »

Maybe they will be. Maybe one of them will win it. If both were declared for the Champion Hurdle, one would have to beat the other and any other mares or geldings that turn up.
If both declared for the mares, one would have to beat the other and any other mares that turn up. There would be no geldings to beat. So there's less to beat in the mares. How does that make it more difficult?

As a matter of interest, when has the mares winner ever recorded a higher rating than the Champion Hurdle winner? Never, was it?

They are good. Do have lots of extra places and on big race days generally have money back as cash on the first televised race up to €20 if finishing 2nd or 3rd.

Best promotion I've ever seen last year, €20 risk free bet on the first race each day of the festival paid back in cash. Was unbelievable, fingers crossed they have it again this year.

Funny for the handicaps loads were 33/1 and without having any opinion they halved most of them to 16/1, fraudsters.

I have a list of on my phone from last March , titled Cheltenham 2020 and number 4/15 on the list is no Antepost bets . First time in a good while that I’m sticking to that .
My own experience of it is definitely not worth it , much better off waiting until the time ...

Get on Hold the Note for the Novice Handicap Chase on Day 1 at 20/1, think it will be 7/1 on the day but i wonder what the Irish will have for that also this year after A Plus Tard last season.

Totally disagree, especially for the handicaps if you can get on early. Now is time to get on before they all go NRNB, plenty of value still out there.

Be interested what the other 14 on the list are though :D

I would imagine Beakstown will go off favorite for that race. Seems to have been the plan at the moment.
Hold the Note certainly an interesting one to. That race is always tricky enough to assess.

Hardly rocket science. It's quite possible the British handicapper will give him a mark to high imo.

Granted you'll get your money back ante post if this happens.

Yeah , I know what you’re saying and purely from a price perspective it’s appealing but you’re backing something that might not even run , never mind that you don’t know who they are running against or on what ground etc . Given all the variables and possible pitfalls I just found over the years that it wasn’t worth it considering that generally there is still serious value in the handicaps on the day , with much fewer variables ....

Could be that I’m just crap at backing antepost either !!

The other 14 range from not backing anything based on trends , first run after a wind op , French breds etc . Nothing groundbreaking , just trying to limit making the same mistakes
