My point was comparing a cork and galway final from 2005 to a potential game 13 years later is stupid.
Even more so when you consider that no Cork player has won an AI medal at Minor, U21 or Senior since. Galway for example have won 10 All Irelands in that time, a frightening statistic for any Cork man surely.

That is damming when you put it like that.

Cork only have themselves to blame when F. Murphy is left there over Cork Gaa and can't get removed and people are happy to leave him there despite our poor success in all grades since 2005. Sometimes the best players in Cork aren't on the senior team and that is fact.

    You have a point.

Politics played big part in many players down the years.

I know a lad from my Club who got 1-15 in a Divisional Final and 1-12 in a A Minor County final and was told the only reason he play for Cork is if he moved to St Colemans. Was few years ago but what a joke

They may well win, but when I see a comment like that, I tend to disregard what follows it.

Saw them against Pairsaigh. Forwards very impressive. Young Brian Roche will be one very good player. Solid at de back. Murphy still very clever with use of ball. Just saying a big price.

I know that was the case before anyway. The best players should be playing in all grades if available. I know there are one or two players good enough for county standard but due to personal reasons are not available to play and that's fine too. But what gets me is when x amount of players from x part of the county have to be on the team because certain individuals in the county board say so and the decision isn't questioned. That was happening alot in Cork in the past and thats not right. The best hurlers from every part of cork where available should be picked and played. I still believe this isn't the case and is one of the reasons why we aren't delivering at any grade at the moment.

So Meyler didn't put out what he reckoned was his best 15 against Limerick? Absolute rubbish imo. Name the players who should have been there instead so.

I reckon Galway would have beaten us in the final had we got there aswell, as a cork man it pains to say it but im getting used to cork losing on the bigger ocassions, hope it changes soon :)

    Absolute rubbish.
Galway have been in 25 finals and won 5 .
Their record against Cork in finals is abysmal.
2018 final was one of the poorest ever with both teams shooting 30 wides between them.
    Cork would have destroyed Galway.
    ?

You're right, he most likely put out the best 15 available.

But have few lads down the years who have been ****ed around and some may have played on that day even

The amount of screwing of players at underage is scary.

it wasn't too long ago we had Aidan Walsh playing senior hurling for Cork. If you think he is the standard then i refuse to talk anything hurling with you. We didn't even have 3 subs that we could bring on in the Limerick match. Bringing on injured players in injury time surely a fresh sub on the panel would have been a better option. Meyler messed up there.

Thought he should at least have brought on Connery from na Piarsaigh in the second half. One seriously talented player.

Being from Limerick I can say with confidence that a defeat especially when you're expected to win can be an obstacle to get over and when you take in a few crushing defeats like cork had in last few yrs it could effect them a little in future, I'd expect cork to be v close in next few yrs but there are issues there so like anybody there's no guarantees Alan cadogan back will be a big plus but still think ye have problems in the backs. I think cork are evolving but other teams are too if we have the same drive as this yr I think we'll be better than this yr plus the others will be chomping at the bit still after saying all that I genuinely think cork and Limerick are top of the pile at the moment plus I'd expect a big yr from Clare next yr they'll have tipp and cork at home and Ennis is not an easy place to go to plus they've a good panel. Add to that tipp Kk Galway Waterford Dublin we could be in for another blockbuster yr

He’s an U17. Come on like, he wasn’t even a starter for the U21s. He’s a serious prospect but calling for him to be thrown in for an All-Ireland Semi is ridiculous.

Easy to criticise but very few realistic names being thrown around as to who should have been on the panel. There’s always borderlines calls, but I don’t think there’s anyone knocking around the club scene that is being tremendously snubbed.

Yea, Connery is one for the future but still a few years away.
I'd love to see someone with a bit of physicality in the forwards brought in to the squad. There's no player that you can really launch ball to besides harnedy to some extent on the team.
A player like young dooley from the Glen or Maurice Carroll from erins own. Lads with a bit of height and physicality who will break up ball, not let anything easy out, catch ball in the inside forward line and be general nuisances forcing teams to double up on and allowing our pacy lads a bit more space.
I certainly feel we have enough of the fast skilful type of player in team and the subs like Mikey cahalane and Lawton are just lower standards of the same type of player that we have. Clearly meyler thinks they don't offer enough when he was bringing back on injured lads in the semi. Surely there is space in the squad for someone a bit different

We need a few heads who will just be ruthless and need them as much in Back's as we do forwards.

We need bring a bit of tough nuts into the team. Probably most skillfull team in country by a nice bit but does not matter a jot if can't match it with intensity and power.

Still 2 years ago had you said we win 2 munster titles and get to semi final I have been thrilled.

We ain't a million miles off at all

Connery one of the best 17 years old in Ireland but still only a child FFS.
Let him come up through his grades and develop into the great senior hurler we know he will be.

Whats was the UCC starting 15 against Erin’s Own on Saturday?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭Plastik

It was all over the place, absolutely nothing like the programme. Coleman, Fitzgibbon and O'Donoghue didn't play. Gleeson, O'Brien & Montgomery (Waterford) were all excellent, as was Conway (Kerry). The better team won, Erin's Own seemed to lack penetration, pace, and were step behind the whole match. It was close on the scoreboard at the end, but it was a 1pt hammering TBH.

If that lad Conway was from Cork, he would be on the senior panel. A very talented hurler.

Aidan Walsh and others gone from the football panel. cue the usual talk of him joining the hurlers. his time has passed, talk about unfulfilled potential

Losing semi finals against Waterford and Limerick that were very winnable. Still a bit to go

Please, please no. Aidan Walsh should not be anywhere near the hurling panel.
