More like Arsenal, Liverpool took all the majors recently.

A lot of the top players missed the cut. DJ Sergio, kopkea, wolff, kuchar, z. Johnson, even a few seniors who are usually there at the weekend like Couples and Langer (course specialists)
So no need to be so hard on Rors the course was especially difficult. Probably because the masters committee didn't want another - 20 winning score.

Ah but unlike Rory, Liverpool’s loss of form is due primarily to injury, Arsenal are living on the memory of past glories and unfulfilled potential.

I heard today that Rory has never won a tournament where the winning score was single digits under par

    Very interesting stat

    Yea, both of them.

How many tournaments outside of majors are won with single figures I wonder?

The Honda Classic is usually single digit winners. Of course, the year Rory won it he was -12

I see that Rory is back playing this week. I was surprised to see that he’s fallen to number 15 in the World Rankings, having been number 4 at the beginning of the year and number 1 as recently as mid July last night. It’s his lowest position in the rankings since November 2009.

Hopefully, he will be able to halt the slide and re-establish himself at or near the top of the rankings.

Well, at least this week is at one of his favourite courses and site of his first PGA Tour win, hopefully it will inspire him to recapture some of his magic.

He has had quite a few weeks now to work on the changes in his swing so I'm hoping he will be back in some sort of form. 4 rounds below par would be a good performance, i cant remember the last time he done that.

He hasn't managed it in his last 3 strokeplay tournaments. He shot 4 rounds under par in the WGC event at Concession.

Hopefully we can see some good progress from him this week.

Listening to Shane Lowry on the Golf Weekly podcast was interesting. He plays practice rounds with Rory a lot and said he wasn't playing well before the masters (in their practice rounds) so it wasn't a surprise but said he's playing better now. He said better, not amazing so take from that what you want

To be in the top 15 world rankings for 12 years is seriously impressive stuff.

    He's under appreciated i feel.

I couldn’t agree more. People seem to view McIlroy as some sort of failure or flash in the pan. What he has achieved in his career to date is remarkable.

The PGA tour has never been so competitive, it’s incredibly difficult to win any tournament nowadays such is the strength in depth each week. Look how many first time winners there are of tournaments each season. Multiple tour winners in a season just isn’t that common anymore. 10 years ago the top 50 in the world was a big thing to be in, it still is, but now there’s more prestige associated with it due to the calibre of golfer that’s on tour. The top 50 are all so closely matched now that it’s taking extraordinary performances from players to get to world no.1. For McIlroy to be still there after 10 or 11 years playing a full schedule every year is some achievement.

Another point to make about the PGA tour especially, two years ago I think there was 1.3 shots that separated the top 125 players in scoring averages at the end of the season. 1.3 shots separating 1st to 125th. Incredible stuff.

That's phenomenal in fairness, will be a long time before we see another irishman so consistent.

Like him full stop. I am not sure any of the Americans since Tiger can lay claim similiar longevity in this respect

He’s won everything apart from the masters . The other three majors , the players , fedex cup, plenty of Ryder cups, WGCs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 389 ✭✭IAmTitleist

Only he, Tiger and Phil have won multiple Tour Championships also!
