Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No problem. I think September is earliest they'll take people.

Also, you could email hr and find out where you are on the panel. Your place will have moved up as students accepted.

I was told that there's very little on current panel. Not enough to make up a class. That's the reason for recruitment.
Great. I think I’m in a good spot for the next class

So they are releasing interview results within 10 working days, I asked recruitment and that's what they said.

If there is a class on placement maybe the will be taking some sooner. Who knows!

Good luck everyone and hopefully we all get on the panel.

The people interivewing were lovely and really did help. Was so nervous they would be very serious but they were so nice and maybe me feel at ease straight away.

When did you do it you’re interview? I done mine yesterday and would love to know when we will find out interview results 10 days seems long

I’d say you’ll hear fairly quick. Are the interviews just this week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 68 ✭✭JBB2020

I had my interview today... I think it went ok... Could definitely have gone better. It just goes by so quickly!!

I had planned on asking more details on time lines but I just didn't have enough time!

I had heard somewhere that there was 400 interviews.... That's hardly right! I hope not anyway!

Well done and best of luck. 400 sounds like a lot to me. If they’re only interviewing this week that would be 80 per day. Don’t see that happening unless the interviews are going on into next week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 133 ✭✭Shau_98

God 400 is so much but they did plan to recruit a high amount didn't they?

Hopefully now it's all good news in a few weeks time🀞 what happens if we are placed on the panel?

I’m already on the panel from the last round so I wonder how they’ll manage that? Possibly by post too.

They will probably email you with an EOI (expression of interest) once the panel is live.

Hopefully we all get good news soon!

The panel going live means that from that date they can when needed draw from it. Anyone on panels ahead of you will be offered places first.

You could be lucky and be on a panel for a few weeks if you got high enough, or.. be on it for 2 years.

Got on the panel too... My head is spinning :D
I couldn't sleep last night with excitement!

I'm assuming the next classes won't be until September and then again in January?

Has anyone any idea how many are left out of the old panel?

    Hi all,

New to this thread. Congrats to everybody on their progress so far.

I'm considering taking the leap into the paramedic world myself. Unfortunately I didn't do a science subject for my leaving cert many moons ago but I believe an EMT certificate can be used in lieu of a science subject.

I've yet to obtain an EMT cert but am considering signing up to a private course as soon as I can.

Has anybody else got any experience with taking this route?

Pretty sure if you passed all your LC subjects and obtain an EMT certificate then you fill the requirements. Just make sure you have your C1 license too.

Apologies, I should have included that in the original post. I don't have the C1 yet but will make sure I have that before applying. Realistically I'd imagine it will be next year by the time I'll be in a position to apply as the EMT course goes on until November.

I'd say you should book your theory for the truck asap as there's probably a giant back log due to covid 😊

Also if you go onto the NAS site and look up student Paramedic there’s a lot of material on what the requirements are. I think it goes into some detail in respect of what they will take in place of a science subject.

"*A Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) EMT Certificate is acceptable in lieu of Science subject"

That's the quote from the recruitment handbook regarding the absence of a science subject so that's reassuring. It will cost a few bob but it will also offer a little glimpse into what's ahead so well worth it.

Not sure to be honest. They might follow the same process as confirming same by post as they did with the interviews.

I'm actually like a hen on a hot griddle. I think it's the fact we have no idea when we will hear could be next week could be a few months away. I think it's the fact that I know I am almost a paramedic

Depending on your panel place, you'll get an EOI by email. I signed up to get a text message as well which usually came a few minutes before the email. You get an EOI for every college and they are normally sent out within a few minutes/ hours of each other.
I got an email in October and started in January.
An EOI email doesn't necessarily mean you'll get into the class though. Although if you have no preference to where you go you're in for a good chance.

Welcome to life on a public sector panel. It was the same for everyone before you and most likely everyone after you. I sat on one panel for 2.5 years without an EOI and I was 5th on that one, then another for only 11 months.

Let's say there is 200 on the panel and the panel goes live today for a period of 2 years(typical length). If they take 35 per class for example and one starts in september, they will contact the top 35 from the panel of 200 and fill the class, if they get no reply or deferrals etc from the expression of interest they'll contact further down the list to backfill spaces in the class. So if you scored well on the panel you'll only have to wait a few months on the panel until the first class begins.

But let's say your 140th on the same panel, you could be waiting 1-2 years perhaps more if they choose to extend the panel until they get through enough classes and call your number. The speed of which the panel is used entirely depends on service need and space in the college. Now with 3 colleges active this should speed things up, but, With each course taking approx 12 weeks for the initial classroom training and then the countless hours of placements and exams there is a minimum time between courses. There are only so many ambulances and stations/shifts to facilitate students/interns so there would have to be a chunk of staff fully finished ahead of you to facilitate this.

A good tip is to check the phecc website's exam calender and see when NAS have booked mcq, osce and saq exams for, that should give you an idea of how long each class takes.

You can express and interest in all 3 if you want. Obviously some people have a preference and will only express interest in 1 while some the date might not suit and they won't express interest at all.
