Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could you not just use Parcel Motel/Wizard if you need a UK address and still claim them?

I’ve it preordered with Amazon and that’s what I was hoping to do if the Google Store doesn’t release more stock on the Irish site.

It would be nice to get clarity, but it does say "UK residents" only clearly. I expect these headphones will be sent out by an external provider (not Google or Amazon), so you might get stuck in a "computer says no" situation.

It's expensive for a phone with a middle of the mark processor.

Honestly, you could give someone a phone with a SD 645 and the same phone with an 845 and they wouldn't tell the difference.

For me, it's perfect. I don't game on my phone, and even if I do it will be xcloud or Stadia which isn't processor intensive. The phone is still going to be smooth, and have better battery life than with a more powerful chip.

Should be ok. I just checked the terms from Google and it states:

“ This Promotion is only open to individuals with a shipping address in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland over the age of 18 ("Participant"). Businesses are not eligible to participate in this Promotion.”

I couldn’t see anything that states you can’t purchase from a UK retailer once they’re on the list of approved retailers.

Is there a waiting list that I can join to receive notification when the pixel 5 becomes available again on the Irish google store?

Keep checking the buy now page, it seems to get a few eventually.

Like over a day eventually rather than minutes eventually

If you look on pixel-offers.com/bose it states that Vodafone and Google Store are the only qualified shops in Ireland. Whether they would reject an Amazon receipt I don't know.

Will they ever sort out their supply issues though?

That would be my concern. The companies that run these services are usually very strict in terms of eligibility. One I had recently was for Sony, I had to hold the device in my hand with the serial number visible and take a picture. Lol.

On the Amazon site it quite clearly says UK only, so it's a risk. They may not deliver to Ireland if the seller was Amazon and they may not accept parcel forwarding services as a valid address.

Hopefully all will be OK though.

But Google, please release some stock to your Irish store!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,945 ✭✭✭✭Mimikyu

If you click on the full T&Cs on the Amazon page it states

“ Purchase a Google Pixel 5 or Pixel 4a 5G (available while stocks last) between 30/9/2020 at 12:00am BST through 19/10/2020 at 11:59pm BST This Promotion is only open to individuals with a shipping address in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland over the age of 18 ("Participant"). Businesses are not eligible to participate in this Promotion.”

So should be ok to order from there and get the headphones.

I agree though about Google though. Wish they would get more stock so I can buy directly from them (plus it’s cheaper in Ireland than the UK). Not sure why it’s out of stock and they didn’t just continue taking orders and push the delivery dates out.

I was in contact with Google support and they said there should be more batches of stock added before release and to just keep checking. Not sure if that’s just a stock response or not but worth keeping an eye.

Finally it shows out of stock on the Google Store.

I made an account on uptime robot so it'll alert me when it is back in stock to order.
This us the URL I used for it to track with keyword being Out of stock on uptime.

    https://store.google.com/ie/product/pixel_5?hl=en-ie

Just a note if anyone feels like doing the same up means it's not available order, down means it is available for order.

Screen protectors and Spigen Rugged Armor both dispatched. Now the long wait for the phone.

No they are not. That is one of the conditions that Google set for them when supplying to them and promise them exclusivity. That is why no other network stocks them.

And what is your source for that?

The Pixel 2 was an sold exclusively in the UK with EE, and yet they were locked. (Source: I had one.)

Yeah, I ordered a few days ago and my date is the same. I'm hoping it will move in to an earlier date, especially considering this guy in the UK already has one from Vodafone UK.

All Pixel phones with Vodafone are unlocked. Not just here but also in the UK. This is one of the contract terms between Vodafone and Google. The could not offer exclusivity in UK for obvious reasons - much bigger market and more networks would have been a big loss for them. While in Ireland due to much smaller market it does not make a major difference.

As the Irish site is not up to date - here is a UK link to confirm the same that all Google phones from Vodafone are already unlocked - just select Google under other brands for confirmation.

Again, what is your proof of this?

I already know, as a Vodafone Pixel owner, that Pixels so far have been unlocked on Vodafone, which is why I said that they would most likely be unlocked for this latest model. However, you have stated it as if it is a fact without providing any proof. Not only that, you have stated that "they are not allowed to lock them", and we don't even know if that's true for the previous Pixel phones or if they just decided themselves to not lock them like they've done with many of their other phones.

I dont have time for silly arguments, I answered a posters question and provided correct information. I have provided public known info available from Vodafone directly and it clearly states that all Google phones are already unlocked.

I do have a source but as its in not in the public domain I dont want to share it.

Again Vodafone are NOT allowed to lock any Google devices in UK or Ireland as per their contract with Google.

    Goodnight.

Absolute nonsense, and you know it. If you had a source you wouldn't have gone to so much effort looking for proof on Vodafone UK etc., you would have said it outright. What drivel.

Edit: Also, I fixed your post.

You need some sleep. You are the one talking non sense. I stated that earlier today but you wanted proof so I got you that - I didnt go looking for it as I knew it already but you are the one that needed the proof. Stop being silly, its ok being wrong in life which you are in this case.

You can continue trolling... you wont get a response. Bye now.

I'm not wrong, you have no source. Either that, or your source wasn't much used to you before.

Looks like both are back in stock on the Google store now. Just sorted a Sorta Sage one a couple of mins ago!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,388 ✭✭✭Cina

So torn on whether to order and whether it's worth it if I have the s10+. Was just going to sell that to the missus, it'd basically work out as nothing for the phone between that and the QC 35's.

My main concern really is the speed of the Pixel 5 in comparison and whether the battery will be up to scratch. I think both should be fine - and I do love the google software, plus the 90hz display and better batteries.. i THINK it's a good idea? Convince me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,379 ✭✭✭whomitconcerns

I've had the Nexus one, "two" 4 and the pixels one and two. A brief foray to oppo for the find 7. (The absolutely fastest best screen fastest charging phone I've still ever seen!!!!) Now I have ordered my PIXEl 5 due on the 14th.

Nothing like a Google phone. Except maybe the new oppo... But that's $$$$$

What's the best plan for this phone?
I've been with 3 for the last 10years,and have had no issues with them. Out of contract at the moment, and just letting it roll month to month.
Looks like it's going to cost €40 a month just for a plan with 5G and tied in for 2 years. Vodafone costs almost the same, but only a 12 month contract.
If it wasn't for the 5G element, I'd just switch to Virgin or 48.ie

€25 a month PAYG for unlimited data including 5G. Unless you really need/make a lot of calls I've no idea why anyone uses bill pay.

I ordered a Green when it went live and now have ordered a black for someone else. Personally color doesn't matter as it will be in a case all the time. All that will be visible is screen and camera module which are black on both devices.
