According to an interview Colm Collins made before Christmas on Clare FM, he name checked Cormac, as one of the players that will be involved with Clare after he and his club teammates Kieren Malone, Gordon Kelly and Eoin Cleary (who is currently recovering from an hand op) are back from a well deserved rest after Miltown's exploits in Clare and Munster after the Christmas break.

perfect , he must be carrying a knock at the moment so if thats the case , another lively forward , slightly worry about our size heading into the league , we seem to have a lot of small players especially in the forwards

given our record against cork of late we really should be beating them in the final this year its up on 11 years since we won the mcgrath cup this is one we need to be wining especially with no kerry or tipperary involved

Definitely agree regarding the size of our forwards windy, particularly our more younger players. But they more than make up for it with savage skill. Great to see Gavin Cooney, Gearoid Cahill and Dermot Coughlan on the score sheet for Clare today. They were top minors 2 years ago with huge skill and agility and will play a big part for Clare in 2019 and beyond.

Cork next Saturday should give us a better guide into how we are shaping up for the upcoming league campaign. Cork have the talent, but with two selectors abandoning ship before the start of the campaign, maybe this will be an opportunity for Clare to get a 3rd win in 4 matches against the rebels. If this match does take place at a Clare venue, I presume Cusack Park will be the favorite to host the game. Time will tell.

Clare senior football manager, Colm Collins has confirmed the likes of Sean O'Donoghue, Jamie Malone and David Tubridy will all return to action for the Clare senior footballers, in the McGrath Cup final against Cork next Saturday in Miltown Malbay. This according to his interview with Joe O'Muircheartaigh in the Clare People today, following Clare's 11 point win over Waterrford in Ballinacourty last Sunday. No word on Keelan Sexton though.

cian dillon has retired from intercounty hurling ,still think he could have done a job for us over the next few years in some capacity beit as a starter or from the bench , but definitely a man that owes clare hurling nothing

I see a Limerick hurler referring to us as "that Clare team that won an All Ireland but was forgotten about again" and doesn't want to be like them. No mention of the loss in Cuscack Park ;)

Unfortunately he's not wrong. It was a one off that wasn't replicated. Last year was the closest we got to the same level of performance in the later stages of that 2013 championship. Still a way to go with the current team to find the right blend.
The chances of Limerick retaining their All-Ireland aren't that far ahead of anyone else winning it.

Galway looked certain to go back to back and look what happened them. A fresher Galway may well have beaten Limerick. There is a fine line between arrogance and cockiness - he's on the other side

The 2001 Tipp team and possibly the 2010 team could also be put in that bracket

They'll have to cut the tracksuits off that Limerick team, i work with one of them and he hasn't taken it off since August.
If people thought Clare were bad in 95 and 97, they haven't seen anything yet.

Someone was asking about the Armagh v Clare venue for the round two football league tie , it has been offically fixed for newry on the 3rd of febuary ,

Not much of a netrual venue as its literally on the county Armagh border , hopfully it can act as a happy hunting ground after the footballers win up there over down last year ,

Clare 1-9 Cork 0-9 FT in McGrath Cup final

St Flannans and Colaiste Mhuire of Ennis both won their respective Munster Camogie College Finals in B and D respectively.

A great day for Clare GAA!

Roll on tomorrow for the Clare senior hurlers!

didnt make it to the mcgrath cup final today but good win none the less ,

cork have gone backwards in the last number of years no thanks to there crazy county board , but in truth this was an expected win in my opinion

two pleasing aspects of today would be the fact that we were missing so many key players and that we can now beat a county like cork with squad rotation ourselves

the other would be the form of keelan sexton , first game back today and kicked 4 points , he had a very much below par year both club and county i often wondered if he was carrying a knock last year , this guy is a top half forward for this level and still only in his early 20s for a county like us its hugely important that we have him at his best for the year ahead

also fitting to see it was gordon kellys goal that decided the game , his service to clare football and miltown has been outstanding down through the years , scoring it on his local pitch makes it extra special

a huge embarrassment today however for the cork county board , a vast amount of this clare team has been worked through development squads while a county with one of the biggest picks in the country has taken its foot of the gas completely in terms of under age development

cork have always been one of the pure football counties , like mayo and kerry always very easy on the eye and always a threat at the very top of the football tree , they will be lucky to hold there division 2 status the way things are shaping up and are probably in for another long year , its a huge shame whats happening down there at the moment lets hope this 5 year plan works

    clare scorers

    Keelan Sexton 0-4
    Gordon Kelly 1-0
    Cathal O'Connor 0-2
    Gary Brennan 0-2
    Dean Ryan 0-1

100% agree with your analysis on Cork. It's worrying and there seems to be no easy fix. However you can't say the above to every Cork fan without someone from Cork saying stop being so negative etc. The county is in deep crisis mode regards football and I think its not being seen as a serious issue down in Cork. This 5 year plan is nothing until situation improves and Cork get back to top table again in football. They come out spouting about a 5 year plan before anything is done is just so annoying. Cork are facing division 3 in the face and if so they do they deserve to go down until the county board wakes up and realise Cork football is gone down the swanny. Congrats on the win today it was well deserved and nice to see new teams winning. Hope my post hasn't taken away the importance of Clares win today. Well done.

Hon the Banner. Great weekend for Clare GAA.

Very impressive win for the hurlers. Tipp had plenty of the senior stars starting and we have plenty to come back into the team.

While it is great to win these matches and any day you beat the Tipp lads is a good day. However Tipp are in a period of heavy training at the moment and will be a completely different kettle of fish come 13 days time, in the League opener against the Banner county in Thurles. Great to see Tony Kelly playing well and getting goals too. Brilliant stuff. A good start to 2019 that's for sure.

that's probably the most pleasing aspect of the win having so many starters on the bench , great to see the fringe players taking there chance

its probably hard to see a number of them players making regular starts especially come championship but having a strong bench is vital for when injuries kick in

some of the key position battles at the moment in my opinion to look put for in the league

aaron shanagher v colin guilfoyle ( full forward along side conlon )
rory hayes v jack browne ( corner back )
shane golden v cathal malone (mid field )
diarmuid ryan v david fitzgerald ( left half back or midfield)
peter duggen v niall deasy (half forward /free taker )
cathal mcinerney v ryan taylor/ mikey o neill or gary cooney (corner forward)
aidan mccarthy v jason mccarthy ( right half back or corner back )

Guilfoyle was excellent today, no reason why both him and Shanagher shouldn't start together with Conlon. That would be a very powerful full forward line.

I'd have Golden ahead of Malone every day of the week. Peter Duggan still well ahead of Deasy too I think. Hayes certainly put his hand up today, I thought he did very well. Great to gave so many options.

So what a weekend for Clare GAA

Clare - McGrath Cup football champions
Clare - Munster senior hurling league champions
St Flannans - Munster Camogie Senior B Post Primary Schools Champions
Colaiste Muire Ennis - Munster Camogie Senior D Post Primary Schools Champions
Diarmuid Nash - Number 1 ranked handball player in Ireland now, as the man from Tuamgraney wins the prestigious Gaffney Memorial, his 2nd win in his last 3 tournaments.

Thank you to everyone to those that produced these top class displays. You have made all of the Banner county so proud as we approach the second full week of January. Congrats to one and all!

does anyone know what's going on with Oisin O Brien?
is he still nursing an injury or omitted from the panel?

also is David Reidy still available and part of the squad this year?

Oisin O'Brien has had rotten luck with injuries and that's an understatement. David Reidy might be finishing his masters in college and is focusing on that exclusively - not 100% certain though. Seadna Morey, Aaron Cunningham, Conor McGrath and Shane O'Donnell are other players that have yet to see action so far in the 2019 season, which started with a win over Wexford in Tulla, in a challenge match early last month.

There is great strength and depth in the Clare senior hurling panel at the moment. Great to see. Don't forget the league panel will be confirmed in the next few days. Who do you leave out?

Shane Golden getting alot of praise which is interesting. In terms of his size and athleticism he is exactly the type of player you want beside Galvin. He just hasn't been able to translate his good club form to senior level. And he has had his chances. Maybe he might make the step up this year. He is 27 so not old or anything. I know a few people won't agree giving him another shot a it, they feel that ship has sailed.

is it true that Aaron Cunnighham will not be available again this year because he is away on his travelling ventures?

not yet but was on the bench today , will probably be used in the same way as last year as an impact sub in both league and championship , probably as malones replacement or for his brother , he is almost too good to have on the bench though

he has probably been one of the best players in the county over the last two years , the league will tell more on his sudden progress but at the time being he is deserved of his praise and starting position , a very interesting prospect in midfield , half forward or full forward for management to look at , at the moment its been mainly midfield and briefly half forward

    Depends on the Game tbh

I posted this terrible image before Link

Really there is lots of on street parking
Then there is Dunnes Stores, Glor, The Temple gate hotel - All a 2 - 4 min walk, there is also parking at the Rear of the Cloister Bar (can be handy if the New Western turnstiles are in use)

If it's not too big a game you'd typically find a space in the Above
And it it's a big game you could just abandon the car somewhere, Happens all the time :pac:

You should have no problem finding a space near the ground or in the town center , espically if its for the donegal game , i would be amazed if there are any more then 2000 at it ,

Ennis is almost surrounded by a ring road leading back onto the motorway so its fairly easy get in and out of the town ,

I wasn't at the game ShortKickOut. However in my opinion St Flannans have lost a huge opportunity to qualify for the Corn Ui Mhuiri final, for the 1st time in quite some time, as if they went through, they would have avoided St Brendans Killarney in the semi-final.

The Sem as they are also called, would seem to be hot favorites to win the Corn Ui Mhuiri, ahead of PS Chorca Dhuibhne and the other 2 Cork schools St Francis Rochestown and Clonakilty CC in that order.

The match report from today, is in the link below

The Clare U20 hurlers played their Kilkenny counterparts in a Under 20 hurling challenge match at UL over the weekend of January 12th/13th. Does anyone know who won and the Clare team that lined out? Who is part of Sean Doyle's backroom team for the U20's?

How are preparations for the Clare U17 hurlers and footballers getting on at this early stage of 2019? Have both teams played any challenge matches so far? Will there be any dual players in both panels? The Clare U17 footballers play their first Munster championship round-robin match against Limerick, in a Limerick venue in mid-April. While the Clare U17 hurlers are away to Waterford in their opening Munster Championship round-robin match in May.

Any info on any of the above queries will be most welcome.
