While I think the U21 lads a deserve a shot I'd be concerned that one piece of the jigsaw is missing, Kinnerk. It's widely known he did a lot of the coaching and the players have huge respect for him.

peter casey from ballyvaughan has been with donal and gerry for years and is regarded by some of the players as one of the best skills coaches in the country he would be a serious asset to the senior panel i dont think he has had much to do with them under fitzs tenure

regardless of who gets the job they will be without kinnerk which is a major reason in itself that the vote went against fitz , he will return at some point i feel

Would Cyril Lyons be a contender?

highly unlikely he would get it or even go for it again , he was probably unfairly removed in 2003 after getting a team in transition to the all ireland the year before , i think he would be a great candidate for one of the underage jobs maybe minor manager , that job is up for review also

Imagine Davy may take a mentoring role with someone next year and then return to intercounty management in 2018 with Dublin, Galway or Cork ??

Wouldn't get near the Cork job if Cusack was part of the setup.

Any likely new additions to the panel under new management?

Apparently moloney has ruled himself out of taking the senior job in the past, stating that is essentially a full time job that he does not have the time for wroth other commitments etc. With that in mind i suppose it could be narrowed down to daly or cunningham...

Ya Daly or Cunningham seem the obvious options but outside that its clutching at straws really.
I was saying that when people were saying we need to sack him, who would come in?
Is Sparrow in the picture at all?

I'd be very disappointed if a former manager was given another shot at the gig. I think Moloney should be given every opportunity at the job and hopefully he won't turn it down.

Yeah, I'd imagine the u-21 combo of Moloney/O'Connor have the job if they want it. But whether they have the time to commit to inter-county management is another thing.
Daly is an obvious option, and I think Brian Lohan would fancy it but probably does not have enough experience.
Ollie Baker has inter-county management experience so a possible outside bet.

I'd be surprised if they went outside the county. If they did then the ones who come to mind are Cunningham, Sheedy & Donal O'Grady. I doubt if Sheedy will return to management & I think Cunningham is slightly tainted by his Galway exit. Donal O'Grady would be an interesting one.

It'll be interesting over the next few days.

Not Mike Mac - hurling has moved on a long way since he last took charge of a team.

Whoever it is I would just hope that whoever it is doesn't have a connection to the team of the 90s, we've had backs, forwards, selectors and goalie from that team as manager at this stage.

    http://clareherald.com/2016/09/davy-decides-to-step-down-as-clare-boss-13957/

This article in a nutshell sums up the last couple of years, all about "me" and "I" while saying what a great bunch of lads but having and underlying agenda by 1 of his crownies and incorrect facts. Ffs how could we have won 15 out of 17 matches with 2 championship losses and a drawn league final.

The majority of the players wanted him to stay...not so sure on that

Considering the article is treating draws as wins I would say it'd be more likely that a majority didn't say they wanted him gone but not everyone gave an opinion.

Can you be sure that you will get much better than him tho, he is a great coach, has his faults as a manager, but if your going for Daly you will get a good manager who is not a great coach, his Dublin and Clare teams were not exactly easy on the eye.

There has been plenty of alternatives mentioned over the last couple of pages. All of the quite capable, imho, of getting the best out of best group of players who have ever worn the Banner jersey.

And they won't act the madman on the sideline and, hopefully, that straitjacket system that was in place for the past few years will be forgotten about.

Im not sure you have the best team you ever had tho, don't see any of your backs who are better than Frank and Brian Lohan, Liam Doyle or Seanie Mcmahon to be honest, your current backs are well off that standard, granted your forwards are much more talented that pervious all ireland winning teams

There is a lot of truth in that. But our forwards are better than then. Loughnane used to play six backs, two midfields and six backs in the forwards...:)

Yep. I had heard that 7 leading players had sent emails to their clubs saying if Davy was back next year they were unavailable for training...Those seven were to be followed by more, but events have transpired.
    T
If there is one positive about this is that Davy has resigned without their being a Mayo or Cork type fallout.
The downside is that he will be back....

Isn't it strange that the Clare Herald article doesn't have an author attributed... I wonder why? Funny that, ,

The game has changed an awful lot since they played though, I would challenge that both Frank and Brian would struggle to get their place on the team now.

You must be joking. Frank and Brian Lohan are both in their 40's now.. of course they would struggle!!:)

Brian Lohan was one of the greatest full backs ever. A sweeper would have been an insult to his game. Frank is probably the best specialist corner back we ever had. Both held their place for more than a decade in Clares greatest era.
