Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cody has the most skill in terms of throwing hands for any fighter under 155, but his chin has been checked too often.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,348 ✭✭✭✭ricero

Cody is some idiot. A bit of patience and he had that fight won but gets himself involved in a fistfight. He's way too hot headed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,588 ✭✭✭derfderf

Cody is not an intelligent fighter.

    That's definitely not true though.
The Cody who tooled up Dom Cruz was probably the most dominant, slick, intelligent underdog in a championship fight in recent memory.

Yeah Cody is a great fighter and can be intelligent for sure.... he is just very hot headed and gets dragged into slug fests for some apparent reason, I think he will learn his lesson from this fight and come back.

I have to agree with this. But Jaysus this can be a cruel sport. When Cody won that fight he was at the pinnacle. Its been a painful fall since then. He just doesnt seem to be the same fighter.

He used to be intelligent. Until he got knocked out twice by TJ...now he's just reckless

Exactly what I meant. In both TJ fights he was on top, even just slightly, and threw it away being reckless.

Its his emotional side that lets him down.

There were 3 Cody's in there tonight, a stiff and defensive, a fluid skill full, and a wild slugger. Unfortunately he does not have the chin for the latter.

Cody’s leg was ****ed and he was having trouble moving on it right away . He knew Muhnoz was going to keep attacking it and it was really bothering him so he tried to get him out as soon as he had him hurt and got caught . A bit more self control he would have won .

Again tonight he was doing his stupid cocky moves for a second or 2. These moves only look good if you end up winning. Agree with everyone saying Cody is too emotional and has no brain. Where does he go from here?? Has he even dropped below a Cruz rematch if Cruz can make it back??

You need to stop listening to Joe "over reactionary" Rogan.

Cody got tagged, and when he did he started swinging, he hurt Pedro and then rather than resetting and being smart he started swinging wildly and got hurt.

He did the same against TJ in the second fight too. Got dropped, and finished soon after.

Well we are about to find out about Askren, I can't fecking wait.

My money went on Lawler, but I really don't know.

This is my main event for tonight. Really excited for this.

    Bull**** stoppage.

    What a joke

Can't really blame Herb for that, he couldn't see Robbie's face, i thought Robbie was gone too wit the way his arm just went limp, gotta look after fighter safety

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,149 ✭✭✭mangobob

Im absolutely sick. So deflating to end like that.

    Booooooooo is right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭SlowBlowin

    Fecking gutted, robbed...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,683 ✭✭✭Subcomandante Marcos

Lads, the way Robbie's arm drops is not insignificant.

A Bulldog choke is a legit choke and Robbie wasn't getting out of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,481 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

While it was a very poor stoppage, Robbie was never getting out of that IMO, so it doesn’t hugely bother me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,944 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

Maybe, just maybe, could there be a way to restart the fight from the same position in situations like that?

    BS stoppage. Shame.

Fair ****s to Askren to recover after that opening minute. I thought he was gonna get stopped at one point. He's a tough cookie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭SlowBlowin

    Dana will be pissed...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,683 ✭✭✭Subcomandante Marcos

I initially thought that was a bad stoppage, after seeing more angles, Herb has no choice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,056 ✭✭✭darced

Robbie lost fair and square imo, you can't behave like that and expect a ref to not stop it. Cruz is talking nonsense, of course he was being choked. Askren is the man, what a chin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,072 ✭✭✭12gauge dave

Askren looks suspect to me. Lethal grappler no doubt but that is all. Khabib can stand and trade with anyone, askren wont be able in my opinion.

I had money on the Lawlor v Askren fight so I can't impartially give an opinion on it..... but I thought it was a bad stoppage.

I agree. Cruz with the "it was on his chin".

How the **** do you know where it was or wasn't?

Herb literally moved Robbie's arm and felt no resistance after asking him to do something. He had no choice but to call it.

Its a fair point, and Im not pissed that Robbie lost and Askren won, but I just think it was such a ****ty way to finish, for Askren also. I wanted a clear submission and it was a premature call.

In partial mitigation, I think Robbie probably knew he wasn't getting out of it too, which is why he seemed so cool with Herbs decision.

But still. I was so looking forward to that and the end just felt so deflating, especially after that incredible beginning. Fair play to Askren for surviving it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,360 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Very disappointing to see that end like that, especially with a savage like lawlor. Reckon it was only a second or 2 away from being stopped earlier in the round in lawlor decision. What a comeback by askren tho. Gotta be a refereee mistake tho.

Actually when he lifts the arm up its kept in the air it would flail straight down if the wits werent intact...bad call, even if it did look like odds of a way out may have been slim.

**** the pretend picogram fight after, this is what we are all watching for.

And thats ignoring the fact that you can easily be choked with the chin in, the position of Bens bicep looked directly on the carotid.

Yes. They can do it after the Jones-Smith headliner. Hopefully the fans will stay and my tv will stay on.

Yup, under the chin really means nothing, Dom talking about "blood choke" just shows how little he actually understands the mechanics of strangulation.
Under the chin is immaterial, either side of the neck is faaar more important.

    No they can't.

Lol, i didn't mean that late, i meant within seconds of realising a mistake had been made, fighters get put back in position a lot, whats to stop it happening in situations like this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,056 ✭✭✭darced

Still not convinced by Woodley, I know I'm ridiculous. If he starches Usman I'm sold.
