Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Great minor game. Couple of SARS goals kept them ahead but once the Barrs got motoring in the second half, there was only ever going to be one winner. Barrs in particular have a few beautiful hurlers with such a strong family history aswell, Kennedy, Doolin, Cunningham to name but a few.

Cork minors will be hard to beat.

Not the best nickname in the current climate

I guess my predictions last week were a better attempt this week I got 9 wrong!!!
Aghabullogue would be one of the strongest teams in IAFC over the last 5 years and I had them winning that handy.
Mitchelstown blitzed Kinsale in the first 10 minutes, has 1-6 on the board. Brian Coughlan scored a sublime volley that would have been a goal of the month contender on Match of the Day for Kinsale's 2nd.
Glanworth beating Kilshannig was a shock to me. Rockchapel/Ballinora was one that could go either way.

Yeah my football knowledge was stretched a bit on these predictions alright - I will admit I though St Michael's v Eire Og was a real toss of a coin, never pictured that.

Yeah, I'd have thought that game was a point either way. I'm from Mitchelstown and my wife is Aghabullogue so I'd have seen a huge amount of intermediate football the last few years. Preparing for the upcoming civil war of the semi-final :D

Assuming the Boylans of Lim/NaP are added to UCC hard to see Blackrock beating them.
Glen to beat a gritty but v limited EO side.

Kanturk's physicality to grind down Charleville.
Fr ONeills to beat Newcestown pulling up.

Dont know enough on the other matches.

Bit mad that UCC can parachute in players on a whim like that. And a bit mad too that lads can potentially win senior hurling championships in two different counties in the same year.

Having said that there can't be much of a bond between a group of lads cobbled together like that. And I don't imagine it means that much to them. But I wouldn't put a win beyond them simply based on the amount of players they have available to them based on a stupid rule.

Final thought - it'd be a shame if a league of nations outfit were to knock out one of the aristrocats of Cork club hurling at such a crucial stage in the championship. And a Glen/UCC final would be such a non-event.

Harsh; hardly cobbled together when they have been in college together for the 3-4 years it takes to finish their degree; plenty of Cork lads on the team as well, and they have won Fitzgibbon already this year; as a team, it is less cobbled together than a divisional team where you could have lads on it for a decade or longer

You unwittingly captured the absurdity of the situation. They won a Fitz this year and are allowed participate in a club competition. Enough said.

I am highlighting that they haven’t been “cobbled together” like an all-star team, or like Imokilly

City hurling final tomorrow - Passage vs Brian Dillons.
Passage going for the double after winning the football last week.
Dillons beaten in last two finals, hoping to beat their county demons once and for all with an ageing team.
Should be a cracker. It’s live on Passage’s facebook at 4pm.

Quick question as an outsider, often hear your championship on Anthony Dalys podcast referred to as the little all ireland, what's the background to that or just a bit of craic?

Prob as it used to be very competitive, dominated by the big city clubs, and used to attract massive attendances but some local may know better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,164 ✭✭✭zetecescort

taken from wikipedia so not sure how correct it is
Since the beginning the championship has been dominated by Blackrock, St. Finbarr's and Glen Rovers who are collectively known as the "big three".[10][11][12][13] They have won a combined total of 84 championship titles. Blackrock dominated the first thirty years of the championship, winning 15 titles between 1887 and 1920. It was during this time that the county championship earned the nickname of the "little All-Ireland" due to its competitive nature. St. Finbarr's, after making a breakthrough in the early years of the 20th century, were the team of the decade for the 1920s before regularly claiming championship titles in each of the decades that followed. Glen Rovers made their own breakthrough with a first championship in 1934 and were the dominant club from then until the 1960s. Between 1971 and 1982, the "big three" shared every available championship title. Their rivalry reached its peak in the 1977 final when a record attendance of 34,151 saw St. Finbarr's defeat Glen Rovers

A Lough Rovers goal 7 minutes into injury time forced ET.
Delanys regrouped to win by 7 aet.
Nice to win a hurling championship after losing the A football last week.
Our Junior C footballers are in their respective final also.

Our 3 adult teams reaching 3 championship finals is in itself a huge achievement for our small club.

At the water break in the city final between Passage and Brian Dillon’s it’s Dillon’s by a point 0-06 to 0-05. Passage started very well but fair play to Dillon’s they weathered that and have come back into the game.

Blackrock v Glen Rovers will be live on TG4 at 4PM on Sunday.

As both regular and change colours clash, the county board have tossed a coin and Blackrock won so Glen Rovers will have to change.

Got the final score from blood and bandage forum. Lets just say it was a disappointing performance from the Banner county. Impressive stuff though from Cork, who scored 4-30.
