Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You could complain about them to Trading Standards in UK, or have a good go at them on Facebook etc. That might soften their cough.

So, how does one get any help?

Under consumer law the retailer is responsible for the goods they sell, they cannot pass the buck to the distributor or manufacturer. Complain to your retailer.

It looks like the digital switchover has been used as an excuse to dump some very poor products onto the small Irish market. Software updates should be used to add new functionality or deal with very minor bugs, not to provide basic functionality that should have been there in the first place.

The moment we decided to opt for a different system to the UK we were always going to get crap. Sure maybe our system is more modern, future proof etc etc etc but companies (in all industries) regard this market as the UK and Ireland. That serves us well in meaning we are attached to a major population. Once we decided to be come little-Irelanders and go independent from the UK we were always going to be a tiny little market no one gave a sh1t about. Just look at the relatively small number of boxes on the market for the switchover when hundreds of thousands of boxes were going to be sold. What are the chances that major companies will release their equipment here when you are talking about dozens being sold.

I should add that I have a Triax 114 and I like it. It's not perfect (limited EPG, some stupid user interface issues, not easy to edit channels once you have scanned) but the combination of Irish and UK channels is a big stepup from what I used to have (Analog on the TV and a Silvercrest SL65 box). But I haven't tried to record stuff very often so others may be seeing issues I just haven't come across yet.

Its been a while since I have posted any comments regarding the Triax TSC 114 but I have been following this thread.

I noted the comment a few days ago about Triax hiding behind the fact that they are manufacturers and deal with the trade only. I would like to point out that they have two helpline numbers, one being a technical helpline for trade user, and the other being a set top box helpline number.

The set top box helpline number is printed in the userguide. Whenever I have used this helpline I have had a reply within a day or so.

Thanks for that information. I hadn't spotted those details in the user guide and they've kept it well hidden on their website. The helpline is 00 44 1443 778910 and the email address is stbsupport@triax.co.uk. I've contacted them and I await a response with interest.

Hi, I set up the TSC114 and it's working fine for the Irish channels.
My issue is that I have two satellites - one for English channels and one for German channels. There's a DiSEqC switch and on previous set top boxes I was able to receive both satellites into the one box.
The default setup has tuned in the German channels for me, but I'm not sure how to add the English ones. I tried "add satellite" in the installation but all it did was re-scan the German channels.
The settings are confusing for me in the add satellite dialogue, so has anyone any pointers as to what settings I should use?

    Thanks.

I have set pvr file format to "ps" in the PREFERENCES-PVR Config menu. Most recordings are saved as mpg files..good. But some are saved as TSV .. certainly the HD channels .. whats going on?

Tried this out myself, set it to "ps" - but my recordings are still saved as TSV. Any ideas how I can get them all to be mpg files?

    Are TSV files not mpeg?

    EDIT
Of course it might be messing with the file format for the HD so that it only plays back on the same box.
I have read mention of something similar here

I copied the TSV file to my PC, and changed the extension to .mpeg. Windows media player wouldn't play it, but Nero Showtime player did

Another issue I'm having is fast forwarding through a recorded program, to skip the ads. When I reckon the ads are about to end I hit the play button - and it jumps forward or backward a couple of minutes. I then scroll again to get back to the end of the ads, hit play, and it jumps again to some random spot.
It's done this both for a recorded show - and a live pause, but seems to be worse for live pause.
Could be my hard drive of course, but just thought I'd see if anyone else is having this problem?

You could also try changing it to .ts if you have a player that plays such files.

I've a very similar issue with a Triax TR112 box. Very annoying, and a shame because the box will play all sorts of file formats, just not very well, not even its own recordings :(

Do you think it would possible that someone could modify the software so we could have the 7 day epg on the satellite? I'd actually be willing to pay for it.

Anyone using an external hard drive with this? I have a Toshiba 500gb USB 3.0 and the box is having problems identifying it.

Once I plug it into the box a message appears confirming it has connected but when I try record a program, it says 'Disk Partition failed' and cannot be accessed by the media player function.

Tried the hard drive in both NTFS and ExFat formats but the box still wont read it.

    Any help?

I'm not looking at my Triax at the moment, so just going on memory - but you have to hit the Media button, then scroll across to Recorder Manager, then set an NTFS or FAT32 partition there. Only then will the box see the harddrive as a possibility for recording. Its on page 36 of the manual. Did you try that?

I've been in email contact with them recently and, to be fair, they have responded promptly if somewhat blandly. But they have now said that they are working towards a software update sometime in early December but don't have an exact date.

    Hey there,

Have the Triax TSC114 and have recently had some problems with the EPG information. Firstly the Irish channel information disappeared but now the box sometimes shuts itself off when I try to use the service for the british channels... Anyone got any ideas, tried to visit the triax website but seems to be down at the mo.

It seems to me after a fair bit of recording that the triax selects TSV if it is recording HD such as rte2 and bbc hd, bbc1hd, channel 4 hdetc. I select the non-HD channel version if i am going to import the file to PC for editing out adds etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 692 ✭✭✭breadbin

i have a quick question, i got one of these yokes today and the satellite man installed a new dish and the box for me. while rte2 is hd, rte1 is only sd. is that an error on his part and if so is it easy to make my rte1 hd? this is my first satellite and receiver so i dont have a clue!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,475 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

It's currently not possible to receive RTE1HD because it doesn't yet exist. No date set for it either. The next channel to go HD is probably TG4.

    What is a userdb file?

ANd while were at it has anyone come across..

    "not valid enter recorder"

This happened trying to record a film on Film4.

I thoight it was a hd problem and tried another hd. What I should have done was to try recording a different channel. All other channels were fine. And after the movie was over then Film4 was recordable too!

I guess the streamed film was 'protected'. Never had this for .. is this the future?!

Anyone know if these boxes work with logitech harmony universal remotes?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 Crabby_Hermit

It doesn't matter what remote works with it.
We've all bought this piece of crap and it wasn't cheap.
The worst thing is that it's still being sold.

Hey Crabby, I'm not doubting you're having issues with it - but for the sake of other potential buyers reading this thread - I have to say I'm very happy with the box. Does exactly what I need it to. It orders Saorview/Satellite channels together nicely. Programs record fine for me. Admittedly I'm not a 'heavy' user of the box, don't care about the EPG, and I only record the occasional program (don't use timers that much) - but for the basic viewing/recording I need, its perfect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,536 ✭✭✭touts

Well I have two of them and I'm very happy. Having followed the thread I think most people are fairly happy.

As for it being the worst thing being sold well I had some Lidl satellite boxes and a Triax 225 (or something like that). The Triax 114 is considerably better than those. It's no sky+ box and it's not trying to be but I suppose there are some people who simply can't understand that.

I would be happy to buy another Triax 114 or to recommend it to a friend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 PedroTech

I agree with the above, Touts. I also have one of these boxes and have had no issues. In my opinion there are far worse boxes on the market. The Triax box delivers what it says on the package.

  • Registered Users Posts: 839 ✭✭✭kelbal

Is it just my clumsy fingers - or does anyone else drop the remote for the TSC114 all the time? Don't know what it is - its thin design, smooth finish - I've 3 other remotes, but this one is constantly being dropped:confused:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 218 ✭✭IsMiseJoe

If anyone is wondering. I purchased a logitech harmony remote and it works perfectly with the box.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 Droim Iarainn

I contacted tvtrade.ie to report the issues described above with regards to scheduled recording.
They were nice enough to reply very promptly with the following:

"Triax currently have a new software update and hope to have it released shortly to solves the issues that you are having"

    This looks promising.

And I hoped it was true too. But December has come and gone and still no joy. The latest I heard from them was that they were still working on the issues raised but that it was taking longer than anticipated to ensure a stable platform. No date was given for a release.

I have to say all my patience is exhausted on this and I find it amazing that a reputable company could take so long (nearly a year after it was released) to fix such fundamental flaws in a product.

Sadly, I can see that's the case indeed. I'm reading of similar frustrations about a different Triax product in another thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056168690

I still can't understand how they cannot be bothered to sort issues such as these but instead are willing to leave a significant (I assume) number of customers who'll never touch their products again.

I sent e-mails to Triax about this issue, I only got a reply to the one message which include a copy to Saorview who have this box advertised on the web site. The reply from Triax was "Our technical team are currently testing software relating to the issue you’ve raised and will implement a new software release (if applicable) at the conclusion of the tests." so I guess that nothing is going to happen, I will be writing to Saorview requesting that it be removed from the approved list until the fault is fixed I will copy Triax on this message. I will be asking Saorview was testing was done to get approval. I think its time Triax feel a little pressure on this, so maybe we should all contact Saorview and copy Triax to have the box removed from the approve list. http://www.saorview.ie/product/saorview-combi-options/

Well I have also contacted Triax and they say the same to me. They are testing software and will release after tests have been completed. Its obvious that they must test the software otherwise you could end up with a worse version than you have already, and the nature of the problems will take time to test.

I think they have been helpful and have kept me informed as to the testing they are doing.

I admire PedroTech's patience. I don't reckon he has owned a tsc114 for any length of time. Surely he isn't affiliated with Triax in some way.

I think thats unfair. Cant someone be happy that the box does what they need without working for Triax. Do you work for one of their rivals?

Its no sky plus or, I presume, upc box but I think it is a good second box. I actually have two of them. I purchased based largely on the feedback on this thread (before the last 2 or 3 pages the feedback is positive). I have not had any of the problems mentioned above (be it scheduled recordings, file types or design of the remote). Maybe I'm not using it as my primary box (I have sky) so I dont get irritated by these issues. I have had other boxes including a triax which actually was piece of rubbish and this one is far far superior to those. It does everything I expected of it (and actually more as I also discovered it will play films I have on a harddisk). Personally I am happy with it and somewhat surprised with the sudden negative turn this thread has taken. I have recommended it to friends. Is there a better box out there that you would recommend?

I haven't recorded anything on mine yet, not do I really feel the need to, so I can't comment on that functionality. However I'm pretty happy with my TSC114. Sure the UI could be more polished, and the EPG is patchy but as a combined SaorView and FreeSat receiver it's been excellent.

Haven't read all 400+ posts to see what your issues are - but if its performing as terrible as you make out, why don't you just bring it back for a refund?, or a swap in case you have a faulty one.
Not everyone out there is having such a bad time with it, there's plenty who find the box great, me included.

That's good for you and for anyone who doesn't use the timer recording list or anyone who doesn't mind having Freeview pornographic and other channels reappear even after they've been deleted. It does have, otherwise, very good functionality. However, for me, the latter flaws are show stoppers and mean the box does not properly provide key functions that I paid for and need.

Maybe I have a faulty one and there's no general software problem and, if I don't see any signs very soon of a new software version, I will be returning it. But there are a number of users who've indicated on this thread that they have similar problems and the tenor of the responses from Triax indicated they realise there is a problem so I'd doubt I have a uniquely problematic box.
