Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

TODAY ... Cloudy with drizzle or light rain at first, soon breaking to partly cloudy with long sunny intervals likely mid-day and afternoon. One or two isolated showers may develop in parts of the north after the clearing trend, but for many it will become a dry and pleasant day with much lower temperatures and humidity, highs 18-21 C.
TONIGHT ... Increasing cloud, outbreaks of light rain before morning in parts of Munster and coastal Connacht. Lows 9-13 C.
THURSDAY ... Showers and a few bursts of heavy rain likely, isolated thunder possible. A partial clearance will follow from the west by late afternoon. Highs 18-21 C.
FRIDAY ... Variable cloud, a few brief showers, breezy. Lows 10-13 C and highs about 20 C.
SATURDAY ... Showers heavy at times, risk of thunder. Lows 8-12 C and highs 19-22 C.
SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, breezy, isolated showers. Lows 8-12 C and highs about 19 C.
FURTHER OUTLOOK ... The final week of July will probably continue a bit on the unsettled side with near normal or slightly below normal temperatures with highs generally around 18-20 C.
For BRITAIN today, widespread thunderstorms in northern England, Wales and Scotland will continue for much of the day with highs in these regions around 19 or 20 C. Southwest England will have a partly cloudy and breezy day with highs near 24 C, lower humidity levels than yesterday. Southeast England will start out hot and humid, highs will quickly reach 30 C and then heavy and isolated severe storms will develop, with a cooling trend to follow, with gusty southwest winds to 80 km/hr in storms, 60 km/hr otherwise. Some severe storms are also likely in parts of northern France.

FRIDAY ... Sunny intervals, isolated showers mainly in northwest. Highs 18 to 21 C.
SATURDAY ... Showers and isolated thunderstorms, lows near 12 C and highs near 20 C.
SUNDAY ... Variable cloud, more showers likely, some heavier bursts of rain by end of the day in Leinster. Lows near 11 C and highs near 19 C.
OUTLOOK ... Continued rather unsettled and slightly on the cool side most of next week. Another warm spell could follow in early August though.

An interval of heavy rain on the weekend may at least sweep through overnight (late Saturday) leaving some decent dry spells for the daytime hours. Today will be reasonably dry, and next week is looking a bit unsettled but by no means a washout. Then there are signs of another warm spell developing by the first weekend of August.
TODAY ... Cloudy with sunny intervals developing, just a few rather brief and light showers mainly confined to northwest coastal areas this morning. Highs about 19 or 20 C.
TONIGHT ... Variable cloud, chance of a little light rain in west and north. Lows about 12 C.
SATURDAY ... Sunny intervals then increasing cloud, heavy rain approaching west coast late afternoon arriving by evening there, as south to southwest winds become gusty at 40-60 km/hr. Highs 18-21 C.
SUNDAY ... Early morning rain heaviest in Connacht and Ulster where 20 mm could fall, about 5-10 mm further south, then this rain should fragment to occasional showers during the morning daytime hours leading to some sunny spells by afternoon. Lows near 14 C and highs near 20 C.
OUTLOOK ... Generally rather cool next week in mainly west to northwest breezes, highs each day 17 to 19 C for most, 20 C possible near east and south coasts, and a few showers at times, but some days featuring more sunshine. This pattern is not expected to change much until near the end of the weekend of 30-31 July then the first week of August should become a little warmer with some prospect of another significant warm spell developing.
My local weather on Thursday was mostly sunny and warm with highs of about 26 C then it has clouded over this evening with the risk of a few light showers during the day Friday. Heavy thunderstorms moved across the upper Great Lakes region on Thursday. During the early morning there were some deaths and injuries reported in wilderness areas near the U.S.-Canada border west of Lake Superior when a tornado tore up a campground. That line of storms had produced tornadoes in Manitoba earlier (late Wednesday). And to the south of these fronts it remains very hot and humid. Chicago was hit by strong wind gusts and heavy rains late Thursday from remnants of the same frontal system.0 -

TONIGHT ... Intervals of steady rain, heavier near the south coast and around Donegal Bay, in either case 5-10 mm could fall there, otherwise 2-5 mm in most central districts. Lows 12-14 C.
SUNDAY ... Morning showers, partial clearing by afternoon, highs 18-21 C.
MONDAY ... Partly cloudy, somewhat cooler with a few showers, moderate westerly breezes 30-50 km/hr. Lows 8-10 C and highs 16-19 C.
TUESDAY ... Partly cloudy, showers. Lows 8-10 C and highs 16-19 C.
OUTLOOK ... Similar weather will prevail for the rest of the week also. Next weekend could turn quite cool but after that, a slow warming trend is likely in early August.
My local weather on Friday was mostly cloudy and rather cool with rumbles of thunder around sunrise then a few light showers during the morning, nothing measurable though. Highs reached about 20 C. Friday was the warmest day of the summer so far in New York (36 C) and Boston (37 C). Those are not humidex values either, raw temperatures -- the humidex was probably well into the 40s.0 -

TODAY ... Heavy showers this morning in Leinster (10-15 mm) will gradually ease off before mid-day and some brighter intervals will follow. A second area of moderately heavy showers will then move into Connacht and west Ulster (with 5-10 mm likely). Munster will have the least rain today (about 1-3 mm) and the best chance for sunny breaks. Highs 17-20 C, rather humid. Moderate westerly winds developing this afternoon.
TONIGHT ... A few showers, lows near 9 C.
MONDAY and TUESDAY ... Partly cloudy, breezy and rather cool with passing showers, highs about 16 to 19 C. Morning lows both days near 9 C.
WEDNESDAY will be overcast with periods of rain, heavy at times. Highs will be around 18 C.
THURSDAY to SATURDAY will continue rather cool and breezy with further showers but also some brief sunny intervals, highs near 17 C.
SUNDAY 31st July and MONDAY 1st August are likely to become a bit warmer and more humid with risk of some heavy showers.
The first week to ten days of August appears rather warm with improving chances of dry and sunny weather as higher pressure builds in. The pattern could easily turn into quite a significant warm spell.
My local weather on Saturday was partly cloudy and the high was about 23 C.
It continues very hot in eastern and central North America, especially in Kansas where highs of 42 C were recorded, humidex near 50 C (dangerous levels indeed). Toronto had a high of 34 C and Boston 37 C.0 -

THURSDAY ... Rain becoming showery across the north, partial clearing for central and southern counties but a few showers developing later, rather cool in the north with highs 14-17 C, somewhat warmer and quite humid in the south until mid-day, then turning cooler. Highs 18-20 C.
FRIDAY ... Variable cloud, breezy and cool with passing showers, highs about 14 C northwest to 18 C southeast.
WEEKEND OUTLOOK ... Rather cool, mostly dry including the first part of the holiday Monday, risk of rain arriving later Monday, timing uncertain this far in advance but likely to be afternoon or evening for west Munster, evening elsewhere. Highs each day about 17 to 19 C, possibly a bit cooler in parts of the north.
My local weather as I finished a quick road trip across parts of southern B.C., was mostly cloudy on Tuesday with frequent showers and some thunder, and it was about 24 C. Monday was quite hot as I mentioned, unfortunately the internet connection that I was expecting to be good turned out to be rather intermittent so I had to forego posting anything more than the brief message that you found. TODAY ... Most of the rain ahead of an approaching low has now fallen, but east Ulster will continue to see another 5-10 mm. Further showers will develop mainly in north Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, with skies more partly cloudy in the south, where moderate southwest winds 40-60 km/hr will develop. Highs will reach 20 C in the south, about 18 C central and only about 15 C north.
TONIGHT ... A few brief showers as it turns somewhat cooler from north to south overnight, lows 8-10 C north, 10-12 C south. Winds veering to westerly 30-50 km/hr.
FRIDAY ... Partly cloudy, isolated showers, moderate west to northwest breezes. Highs 15-19 C, warmest near south coast.
WEEKEND OUTLOOK ... All three days of the Bank Holiday weekend should be mainly dry but there will be isolated showers around in parts of the north. Despite that, most places should have a mainly dry weekend with cool temperatures for time of year. Highs will be in the range of 17-19 C, overnight lows about 8-10 C. Winds moderate northwest on Saturday will fall off to light westerly on Sunday and variable, becoming southeast on Monday. Any rain approaching west Munster on Monday afternoon or evening is expected to hold off now, as part of that system shears off and heads south of the Irish coast towards France.
FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Overcast and windy on Tuesday with periods of rain, mild and humid with highs 19-20 C. The rest of the week looks fairly close to average early August conditions with highs near 21 C.

If you find any clear skies over this coming weekend, you'll be able to see a triangle of bright planets and one star low in the south. Mars is the brightest object on the right side of this triangle (towards the west), Saturn is the object at the highest point of the triangle and Antares is the third member almost directly below Saturn. There are two less prominent stars visible in the triangle also. The Moon is rising quite late in the early morning hours, and won't dim the view.0 -

MONDAY ... Sunny intervals north and east during the morning, mostly cloudy in Munster where some rain may develop during the day. There now appears to be some risk of this rain turning heavy and spreading across the south during the late afternoon and evening hours. Lows 7-9 C and highs 17-20 C.
TUESDAY ... Morning rain will be heavier near south and west coasts, partial clearance to warm and humid conditions, lows 11-14 C and highs 18-22 C.
WEDNESDAY ... Variable cloudiness, breezy and somewhat cooler again with a few showers or intervals of light rain, highs near 17 C.
FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Near normal temperatures, some dry intervals then a spell of strong winds and heavy rainfall possible around the end of the weekend of 6-7 August, or into Monday 8th. This disturbance looks quite strong on several global models already.

TODAY ... Cloudy with a few sunny breaks, occasional light showers but amounts generally slight (1-3 mm), highs 16-19 C.
TONIGHT ... Occasional rain spreading across the south, about 5-10 mm in some parts of Munster, foggy especially over higher ground, some clear intervals in Ulster may allow it to cool off to around 7 C there, while lows in most other places will be 10-13 C.
MONDAY ... Rain at times in south, another 5 mm likely, but it seems that this system will begin to fragment while redeveloping southeast of Ireland for a run at southern England which will be quite wet. The northern half of Ireland meanwhile will only see sporadic light showers and some places in Ulster could remain largely dry. Highs will reach about 18 C.
TUESDAY ... Breezy, rather warm and humid, a few intervals of light rain, winds increasing to southwest 40-60 km/hr, lows near 13 C and highs 19 to 21 C, with any sun it will feel warm and muggy.
WEDNESDAY ... Cloudy, breezy and not quite as warm, occasional light rain mostly in northern regions, lows near 10 C and highs near 17 C.
OUTLOOK ... Turning quite warm and windy towards the end of the week and into the weekend as a strong low pushes north of Donegal by Sunday. Highs could reach 22-24 C and winds southwest 50-80 km/hr. There will be frontal bands of heavy rain involved with this but they may not last all that long with sunny intervals between their passage.
Beyond that weekend of 6-7 August, charts are indicating an interval of fair weather that could be warm or even locally hot, details may change on this so at this range we'll just say that mid-August could be a summery spell to rival if not surpass anything early June or mid-July managed to produce.
My local weather on Saturday started cloudy but this broke very quickly around 11:00 and it was sunny and breezy for the rest of the day with a high near 24 C.0 -

Intervals of rain may be heavy at times this morning in the south, and there will be a slow northward drift of this band of rain although some parts of Ulster and north Leinster, even north Connacht could remain dry for a good part of the day. Highs 15-18 C. Rainfalls about 10-15 mm south.
TONIGHT ... Foggy or low cloud, drizzle or light rain, lows 11-14 C.
TUESDAY ... Showers, then some clearing, warm and humid, sunny intervals developing by afternoon, winds SW 50-70 km/hr. Highs 19-23 C.
WEDNESDAY ... Breezy to windy (especially near Atlantic coasts), westerly about 50-80 km/hr at times, a few showers heavier in north and west, with lows near 10 C and highs near 18 C.
THURSDAY ... Breezy, isolated showers, partly cloudy. Lows near 9 C and highs near 19 C.
FRIDAY ... Sunny intervals, pleasantly warm at 20 - 22 C. Becoming quite windy late in the day as southerly gales spread into Atlantic and south coast counties.
WEEKEND OUTLOOK ... Very windy but warm on Saturday 6th, some passing showers but also some sunny breaks, winds southwest 60-100 km/hr. Highs about 23 C. Sunday will continue rather windy but somewhat cooler at 18-20 degrees.
FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Somewhat cooler for a few days in the second week of August then prospects for a warming trend mid-month that may lead to a good warm spell some time after the 15th. Details on that are bound to change this far out but the signal has been fairly consistent for a warm spell in the second half of August.

Cloudy this morning with patchy light rain or drizzle, slowly clearing skies mid-day, although one or two heavy showers or isolated thunderstorms could develop over north Connacht into west Ulster. Winds increasing to southwest 40-70 km/hr, quite gusty near Atlantic and south coasts. Warm inland by afternoon with highs reaching 22 C, closer to 19 C near coasts.
TONIGHT ... It won't be visible but the new moon sets directly to the left of the setting sun this evening (new moon is at 9:45 p.m. Irish summer time). Becoming cloudy with showers and gusty winds from southwest to west, lows about 10-12 C.
WEDNESDAY ... Much cooler and breezy to windy at times (westerly 40-70 km/hr) with frequent showers, some longer periods of rain possible in north and west giving 10-15 mm, more like 5-10 mm elsewhere. Brief sunny intervals, and the risk of a thunderstorm. Highs 15-18 C.
THURSDAY ... Partly cloudy, a few more showers but becoming more isolated in northwest breezes 30-50 km/hr, cool. Lows 7-10 C and highs 15-18 C.
FRIDAY ... Sunny intervals, becoming quite warm by afternoon, winds increasing to southwest 40-60 km/hr late in the day. Lows 6-9 C and highs from 19 to 21 C.
SATURDAY ... Windy and quite warm, risk of some strong gusts and passing squally showers although some sunny intervals in the mix, as southwest winds reach 50-80 km/hr. Near gale force winds over Donegal Bay and around Galway Bay. Lows near 14 C and highs near 23 C inland, 18-20 C around coasts.
SUNDAY ... Breezy, sunny intervals, a little cooler although pleasant at 20 C in a moderate southwest breeze.
MONDAY ... Squally showers, strong westerly winds developing, temperatures steady near 16 C then dropping slowly.
OUTLOOK ... Turning rather chilly mid-week for about two days, then likely another rebound to warmer temperatures towards end of the second week and into mid-August. For the time being, however, the pattern looks rather autumnal in terms of energy levels although generally rather warm most of the time, just briefly colder at times as in a mild autumn pattern.
Wondering about the weather for the Rio Olympic Games? It is "winter" in Brazil, but as Rio is at a latitude comparable to Havana Cuba in the northern hemisphere, they only see the weakest outer effects of wintry disturbances travelling across South America. The two weeks of the Games looks to be a settled period generally with perhaps one or two brief interruptions from passing showers. Winds will tend to be from the east to southeast much of the time and highs will be 24-27 C with nights around 11-15 C. It should be ideal weather for most of the events.
My local weather on Monday (also a holiday here) was sunny with a high near 23 C. We're expecting showers on Tuesday here. (If you're reading this in North America, the new moon is closest to the Sun at mid to late afternoon depending on time zone, and it would be just below the Sun at that time, not close enough to provide an eclipse ... there will an eclipse of the Sun on the first of September visible from parts of the southern hemisphere around the south Indian Ocean ... that one is "annular" meaning the Moon is too far from the earth at that time to cover all of the Sun so the total phase involves a ring of the Sun around the darkened moon ... we won't see any of that from north of the equator but the "big one" is coming to North America on August 20, 2017. Google it if you want to find out where and when (it's all across the United States from Oregon to the Gulf coast).0 -

Severe heat alert has been issued for SPAIN, PORTUGAL and southern FRANCE between Friday 5th and Monday 8th. Some of that very warm air will enter the weather picture for Ireland and Britain but it won't reach heat wave levels here. Be aware if you have any travel plans that there may be temperatures into the low 40s in the Iberian peninsula and southern half of France, trending to about 35 C in Paris.
TODAY ... Breezy to windy at times, westerly 40-60 km/hr for most but more like 60-80 km/hr in exposed Atlantic coastal regions, with frequent showers or intervals of rain, thundery in places with the risk of hail. About 10-20 mm rain is possible, and highs will be around 18 C except for 20 C in south Leinster and parts of Cork and Waterford.
TONIGHT ... Further showers, but less windy, west to northwest 30-50 km/hr, lows about 10 C.
THURSDAY ... Partly cloudy, passing showers, moderate west to northwest breezes at times, slight risk of thunder. Highs 16-19 C.
FRIDAY ... Sunny intervals, warmer. Low cloud and light rain could brush a few outer coastal areas north of Galway Bay. Lows 6-9 C and highs 18-22 C.
SATURDAY ... Passing showers in the early morning to about mid-day, then partial clearing, some sunny intervals, and becoming very warm especially eastern and central regions. Lows 10-14 C and highs 20-24 C. Strong southwest winds now appear more likely to remain offshore but could be a factor around Achill, Belmullet and Donegal.
SUNDAY ... Sunny intervals, breezy to windy at times (SW 40-60 km/hr and possibly stronger by late in the day in Atlantic coastal regions), warm. Lows 12-15 C and highs 19-23 C. (note the alert, severe heat is likely all weekend over much of France and all of Spain and Portugal -- it will also be rather hot in southern England at about 28 - 30 C).
MONDAY ... Becoming windy with potential severe gusts near west coast, turning sharply cooler, squally showers and possible thunderstorms. Winds becoming westerly 50-80 km/hr. Lows 11-13 C and highs 14-18 C.
OUTLOOK ... Mid-week is looking quite chilly as a northwest to northerly flow develops behind the Monday frontal system. Highs may only reach about 15 in the north, 17 C south by Wednesday. Following that, a slow warming trend can be expected. Some guidance is suggesting that the pattern will become blocked and low pressure will begin to drift west from central Europe, this could lead to showery but rather warm weather in easterly winds. That could eventually transition to warm and dry weather later in August.
My local weather was cloudy with drizzly showers (heavy storms inland), and highs near 18 C on Tuesday. A severe storm event is forming over Alberta and will bring very heavy rainfalls and severe hail to parts of the southern prairies of Canada today and to Manitoba and Minnesota, North Dakota on Thursday. Further east it remains hot and humid until that front arrives late Friday or Saturday leading to a less humid and seasonable weekend.0 -

TUESDAY to THURSDAY will then be quite a bit cooler in northwest winds, with occasional passing showers, otherwise a mixture of cloud and sunshine (or clear skies at night) and highs will generally average 14-17 C.
FURTHER OUTLOOK ... There are optimistic signs that this cool spell will not last and that warmer air will return towards the end of next week.
The heat wave expected across Spain and Portugal is already starting to produce above normal highs (39 C near Madrid on Wednesday) but the core of the heat will develop during the weekend and early next week and Portugal may be hottest in relative terms (could be close to 40 C near Lisbon), although the absolute highest temperatures (43-45 C) will likely be near Seville in southern Spain. Across France temperatures will vary from mid to high 30s in the southwest to high 20s in the north during this period although the north will get into the colder air discussed in the Irish forecast by Tuesday. In Britain, temperatures will be just a little higher than what is predicted here for Ireland, add about 2 degrees on average for southern England, otherwise expect similar temperatures.

Hurricane Earl (a cat-1 system) has just moved inland over Belize and will quickly lose its tropical intensity for wind although maintaining its heavy rainfalls over Mexico.0 -

The heat wave is still on for parts of Spain and Portugal, Lisbon in particular may see unusually high temperatures this weekend. Between there and Seville Spain the highs will probably reach 43 C in places.

My local weather featured mostly sunny conditions after some marine low cloud burned off mid-morning, and the high was about 24 C. Just had a nice view of the crescent moon near Jupiter. Make a note, on 27th of this month, Venus joins Jupiter in a very close conjunction but to see it, you will need rural dark skies after sunset and a very unobstructed view of the western horizon. The approximate time will be 8:40 p.m. to trade off darkness for altitude, the two planets would be setting before 10 p.m. ... I will post an alert for this again the day before if I think skies are going to be clear enough.0 -

THURSDAY to SUNDAY and perhaps beyond, another warm spell will develop, this one may not feature the strong winds of this coming weekend but temperatures could be similar (22-24 C eventually). Thursday will see readings of 20 or 21 C and Friday 21-23 C. The latest guidance suggests highs may reach the mid 20s by the following weekend and into the third week of August. Some light rain could brush parts of the far north with weak fronts that make no further progress south before dying out. Only a slight breakdown of this warm spell is indicated even as far into the month as the 23rd (the end of the GFS model run). We should be cautious at this stage, but this warm and dry spell has been on the charts for some time now. The down side if these charts were to verify might be an increasing risk of isolated wildfires.
Meanwhile, that heat wave in Spain and Portugal could hit its peak today with some model forecasts suggesting all-time record highs near Lisbon (44 C) although this would be some distance inland from the city which might stall out near 37 C. If there's any risk of wildfires in northern Portugal there could be a rapid spread of them due to increasing east winds there.
My local weather was fairly average for time of year, partly cloudy and around 23 C. We are entering a two-day showery interlude then more sunshine later in the week.0 -

The warm spell next week will be more like a heat wave in parts of southern England where highs could reach 30 C, and the thundery breakdown there will probably arrive Wednesday.
My local weather on Thursday was sunny and very warm, so we took advantage of the good conditions and went sight-seeing in the nearby mountains, visibility was at least 100 kms. It's clear tonight here and I'm hoping to see a few of the Perseids after midnight, went out briefly already and noticed that Mars has made quite a bit of progress towards Saturn (and Antares below it) in the past two weeks, making that triangle in the southern sky a lot smaller now; the half moon is in that general part of the sky also (if you have clear skies tonight there, the Moon will be located just above Saturn, with Mars a brighter object off to the right of them).0 -

TUESDAY ... Increasing cloud, some showers developing by evening near south and west coasts, warm. Lows 13-17 C and highs 21-24 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... After some breaks on Thursday, another interval of showers or rain late in the week may persist into Saturday 20th, then gradual improvement but the pattern now looks rather variable with further intervals of showers at intervals of 2-3 days with the odd dry day in the mix, and temperatures not far from normal late August values of 19-20 C.

Some improvement may then develop for a few days but the very long range charts show a tropical remnant low in the vicinity near the end of the month (low confidence in that).
Over in BRITAIN the warm spell will be a little stronger (26-28 C) and the thundery breakdown will arrive rather gradually through late Wednesday and will persist to some extent on Thursday; the Friday-Saturday event will produce similar weather to the above forecast for Ireland across Wales, northern England and Scotland but it will be somewhat warmer in southern England with scattered showers and a southerly wind rising to 60 km/hr.
My local weather continued sunny and very warm on Monday with a high near 26 C. Heavy rain is developing across the lower Great Lakes and may bring some flooding to parts of Ohio, southern Ontario and upstate New York today. Severe heat continues along the east coast of the U.S.; Washington D.C. has hit 100 (F) the past three days with humidex values near 45 C.
A strong cold front brought severe wind gusts and squally showers to Rio on Monday, before that arrived it was 33 C briefly. It appears that lightning set off some bush or forest fires in the vicinity also.0 -

Heavy showers and some embedded thunderstorms slowly advancing further east, very heavy at times in western Galway and Mayo where 30-50 mm could cause flooding around places like Newport, Westport and Clifden ... some 20-40 mm falls possible in parts of midlands, inland southeast, watch for spot flooding on roadways there. Somewhat less rain likely in parts of central Munster and east Ulster, 5-15 mm, and the rain may not be very heavy in east coast counties until late afternoon or evening. There will be some sunny breaks in a few locations between these bands of showers, highs 18-20 C. Turning somewhat cooler in Atlantic coastal counties by afternoon as winds become light northerly there.
TONIGHT and THURSDAY (full moon 10:37 IST) ... Heavy showers or thunderstorms could develop around Dublin, Meath and east Ulster overnight while elsewhere, during the early morning hours, the heavy showers will likely diminish considerably, with overnight lows 10-13 C, then some sunny intervals may develop briefly tomorrow with highs 18-21 C before cloud increases from an advancing Atlantic low off to the southwest; this will begin to spread some rain into west Munster by evening.
FRIDAY ... Windy and wet, 20-30 mm rainfalls possible, winds east to southeast 40-70 km/hr, lows near 12 C and highs near 17 C. Becoming foggy over hills by late in the day. It's not looking like a very good day for any outdoor activities.
SATURDAY ... Rain followed by scattered showers, strong winds shifting to southwest 40-70 km/hr as the Atlantic low drifts north through western counties (where winds may briefly pause as the centre passes), lows near 11 and highs 17 to 19 C, further rainfalls of 10-15 mm, heaviest around Kildare and Laois, west Wicklow.
SUNDAY ... Some minor improvements to mainly cloudy with isolated showers and winds falling off to moderate during the morning, lows near 10 C, then another pulse of heavier showers and gusty winds by late afternoon and evening (southwest 40-60 km/hr at times) with highs near 19 C. Some rainfalls of 10-20 mm by midnight.
MONDAY ... Variable cloud, breezy, showers, highs near 18 C.
TUESDAY ... Breezy or windy, showers or intervals of rain, highs near 19 C.
FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Minor improvements later in the week but charts are showing another strong disturbance timed for about Saturday 27th that will move in from the south with possible heavy rainfalls. This could go either way as there is expected to be a surge of hot and humid air from the south heading for Britain with this system; if that were to shift west then parts of Ireland could get into very warm air for part of that period, a shift further east would move the heavier rain into western Britain instead. Then charts for the week of late August into early September show somewhat warmer weather as the jet stream shifts well to the north (but this could change too).

TODAY ... The last of the rain will slowly clear from east Ulster this morning, and the rest of Ireland will have mostly cloudy skies with a few sunny breaks developing around mid-day. Then the first wave of moisture from a new Atlantic depression will reach southwest Munster by evening. Highs 18-20 C and rather humid, light winds generally.
TONIGHT ... Heavy rain with a risk of thunderstorms will spread along the south coast accompanied by gale force southeast wind gusts at times, expect 15-25 mm (potential for isolated heavier amounts), but further inland amounts will be progressively lower during the night, albeit with the same gusty winds and some fog developing, lows about 12 C. Winds southeast 40-70 km/hr in exposed locations.
FRIDAY ... Some of the heavier rain will slowly spread north in Leinster, amounts will probably be about 15-20 mm inland trending down towards the north and along the east coast, and also lighter amounts in other regions although some isolated heavy showers are possible. The strong winds will ease slightly for many as the low approaches the west coast, but strong gusts to about 80 km/hr from south veering southwest are likely in Cork, Waterford and Kerry. Highs 15-19 C.
SATURDAY ... Intervals of rain, some rather heavy but more typically light and showery, eventually an additional 20-30 mm could fall in some central and northern counties. Winds becoming southwest 40-70 km/hr. Lows near 13 C and highs near 18 C.
SUNDAY ... Variable cloud during the morning, showers ending for a time, then another surge of moderate to heavy rain from west later in the day, as winds increase again to 50-80 km/hr from south to southwest. Rather warm and humid, lows near 14 C and highs near 20 C.
MONDAY ... Partly cloudy, breezy, isolated showers. Lows near 12 C and highs near 19 C.
OUTLOOK ... Another fairly strong frontal system will pass on Tuesday with more rain and gusty winds, then improvements are likely later in the week with only small amounts of rain and some sunny intervals, highs near 20 C. The system we were discussing for Saturday 27th is now looking weaker and will likely dissolve over southwest England before doing too much, so the slightly unsettled conditions may just continue in Ireland while a few thunderstorms roll into western Britain and hot, humid air spreads north from France into eastern England. There could be heavy storms as a result in some parts of Britain. The last few days of August at this point are looking rather warm with some sunny intervals, highs near 23 C.
My local weather continues very dry and hot with highs near 29 C. I will be heading out at 0230h local time here (1030h there) to see the full moon partially eclipsed (a penumbral eclipse event).
The weather for Rio has been generally warm and dry the past few days and will continue that way today and Friday, part of Saturday then just before the closing ceremonies a very strong front will arrive with much colder air rushing in from the southwest. Highs until then will be near 30 C but temperatures will fall quickly to near 15 C on Sunday with heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong wind gusts perhaps as strong as 110 km/hr in the region -- I think the marathon events will be interesting to watch just for that reason (unless they move up to Saturday to avoid this). The air mass covering southern Brazil and Uruguay will be cold enough for hill snow and night frosts but the coldest it will likely get in Rio is about 12 C by Monday morning as everyone is leaving town. (then it will clear up and be spectacular next week, oh well).0 -

TONIGHT ... Strong wind gusts will ease in parts of Munster and Connacht as the low centre passes close to the west coast, but it will remain very breezy further east (southerly 40-60 km/hr). About 5-10 mm further rain will fall in many parts of the country with lows 12-14 C.
SATURDAY ... Windy and showery with just a few brief brighter intervals developing. Winds southwest 40-70 km/hr. About 10-20 mm rain and highs of about 16-18 C.
SUNDAY ... Morning sunny breaks, then further rain sweeping in from the west, about 10 mm for most. Lows near 14 C and highs 19-21 C.

TODAY ... Low pressure will now track across north Leinster and by tonight will be located near southwest Scotland. Counties north of this track mainly in Ulster will have rather light east winds increasing to moderate northerly, periods of rain and highs near 15 C. Counties near the track will have light and variable winds, fog, drizzle then heavier showers and increasing northwest winds this afternoon, highs near 16 C. The southern half of the country will continue to have strong southwest to west winds of 50-80 km/hr, squally showers and the risk of a thunderstorm with highs near 18 C. Rainfalls will average about 10 mm in the north to 25 mm west-central to east and northeast, and about 15-20 mm near the south coast.
TONIGHT the showers will become light and drizzly then some fog will develop, winds will slowly abate and lows will reach about 11 C.
SUNDAY could start out partly cloudy in the east, overcast west, then rain will develop as winds increase to south-southwest 40-60 km/hr. Rather warm and humid with highs reaching 20 C.
MONDAY will have some variable cloudiness and some overcast periods with a few more showers likely, lows near 14 C and highs near 20 C.
TUESDAY will see a band of rain slowly returning from the south and this could become heavy in parts of south Leinster, moderate into the midlands and east Munster, but further west and north it could remain dry longer. Rather warm, lows near 14 C and highs near 22 C.
WEDNESDAY to FRIDAY are currently looking rather warm and although somewhat unsettled there could be longer intervals of sunshine too, with highs reaching 23 or even 24 C.
FURTHER OUTLOOK calls for showers and thunderstorms around the weekend of 27th-28th, further unsettled but warm weather, highs staying above normal in the low to mid 20s.
During the period, BRITAIN will gradually become very warm or even hot, and quite humid, with highs in southern England sometimes approaching 30 C. Heavy and possibly severe storms could develop in a frontal zone across western Britain at times (this could also spread back into southeast Ireland at times but the prospects look more certain for intense storms in Wales and southwest England in the coming week). Anyone with travel plans to France around middle of next week should be forewarned that it could be excessively hot and humid there (around 36 C possibly with heat index above 40).
My local weather is also hot and sunny, Friday's high was about 32 C at my location and 36 C further inland. Portland Oregon hit 38 C. There have been very severe forest and bush fires in parts of California for several weeks now and we are getting elevated smoke layers in our sunsets making them quite vivid. The eastern half of North America has recently been closer to average August warmth of 28-31 C.0 -

TODAY ... Mostly cloudy, outbreaks of rain slowly spreading further east from Kerry and Cork, eventually covering most counties but amounts generally around 5-10 mm. Rather warm and humid with highs 18-20 C.
TONIGHT ... A few more pulses of light rain likely, 2-5 mm, lows 13-15 C, some fog by morning.
MONDAY ... Light rain becoming more confined to southeast, occasional sunny breaks further west and north, highs 19-21 C.
TUESDAY ... Rain will redevelop across the inland southeast, spreading north towards north Leinster and east Ulster. Further west, it may remain partly cloudy or even sunny, lows will be 12-15 C and highs 18-20 C in the rain but perhaps 21 or 22 C further west.
WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY will be partly cloudy, rather warm days with light winds and just the risk of a few isolated showers. Lows near 12 C and highs could reach 22 or 23 C inland, 20 C around coastal districts.
FRIDAY may show a slight decline to cloudy with a few sunny breaks and more extensive scattered but light showers, lows near 14 C and highs near 21 C.
SATURDAY looks rather showery at this point with moderate south to southwest winds. Highs near 20 C.
FURTHER OUTLOOK is for rather unsettled weather to end the month and some chance of a brief cooldown around the first of September lasting a day or two with a return to the low 20s to follow that.
Next week will be several degrees warmer in southern Britain (southeast and south central England in particular) with highs 25-28 C. It will be well into the 30-35 range in most of France with even higher heat index or humidex values.
My local weather on Saturday remained sunny and hot with a high close to 30 and 35 not far inland. Today (Sunday) is expected to see an abrupt end to our heat wave with showers and thunderstorms developing late in the day and gusty winds, followed by a sharp drop in temperature to about 17 C. Oddly enough this is more or less the forecast for Rio today as well although their front will arrive soon after sunrise and perhaps during the marathon event which may make it difficult -- their official forecast calls for winds gusting to 100 km/hr and possible tree and roof damage (I suppose the criterion for roof damage may be rather low there in poorer sections of the country). The front is currently just to the west of Sao Paolo and should arrive in Rio about 0800h local time. Current temperatures range from 24 C in Rio to 17 C near the front and 12 C in Porto Alegre where it's starting to clear, then 4 C in clear skies in Uruguay. Could be a touch of frost in coffee producing regions west of Sao Paolo on Monday morning.0 -

The heat wave there should be over by Sunday as temperatures drop to about 20 C.
My local weather on Monday was cloudy with a few light showers, and the high was about 18 C. While Tropical Depression Fiona has weakened north of Puerto Rico, Gaston has arrived on the scene southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, and may develop into a hurricane moving gradually into the central-western Atlantic in the coming week to ten days. Between them is another disturbance that appears likely to become Tropical Storm Hermine (but is not at that level yet); if it does develop, it would probably head towards the Bahamas and some charts show it brushing the east coast of the U.S. near the end of August. So there's quite a bit of tropical activity already, in comparison to last year.0 -

THURSDAY ... Partly cloudy, a few isolated showers, warm. Highs 18-21 C.
FRIDAY ... Partly cloudy, lows near 10 C and highs near 21 C.
SATURDAY ... Rain is still expected but guidance has shifted around with more of a gradual overspreading of the rain likely, but this could even give Leinster and Ulster a dry day or at least a dry start. Rain is most likely by evening and overnight, about 10-15 mm now appears likely. There could be isolated thunderstorms in this set-up and we should have more clarity on details by tomorrow morning. Lows near 12 C and highs of about 18 C where it rains, 20 C possible ahead of the rain.
SUNDAY ... Some further rain tapering to showers, then gradual clearing in freshening northerly breezes. Lows near 11 C and highs near 18 C.
OUTLOOK ... A dry start to next week with a vigorous frontal passage expected mid-week, most likely Tuesday night in Ireland and Wednesday in Britain, gusty winds and thunderstorms possible. Highs Monday and Tuesday in the low 20s. A slight drop in temperature will accompany the front but it should warm up fairly fast again towards the end of the week.
Highs in southern England on Tuesday reached 31 C (Heathrow) and similar values are likely to about Friday, slightly cooler on Saturday now with outbreaks of thunderstorms possible, and still in the high 20s on Sunday in some places. Over in France, the highest reading on Tuesday that I could find was 37 near Bordeaux, it was 33-34 in Paris region. Similar heat will continue all week there.
My local weather on Tuesday was mostly sunny and pleasantly cool at 21 C, warmer weather is returning for the rest of the week. In the Atlantic, Gaston will attain hurricane status and is expected to head north over the weekend and next week, well to the east of Bermuda then remnants are shown on charts for 4-6 September near Ireland; at that time distance, this is just a very tenuous forecast but something to keep in mind (no huge storm is shown just moderate winds and rain).0 -

MONDAY ... Sunny intervals and warm in the south, overcast in the north with some rain near Donegal Bay, highs 18-22 warmer inland south.

WEDNESDAY ... Cloudy, showers and risk of a thunderstorm, breezy to windy, and highs near 20 C.
OUTLOOK ... Latest model guidance on the track of Gaston remains similar to about Friday 2nd (when it is expected to be north of the Azores) but from that point on, the trend in recent model runs is for the remnant low to lose intensity rapidly while low pressure further north gains most of the available energy. So any rain around Friday 2nd to Monday 5th will now probably come from ordinary frontal systems rather than this tropical remnant which may not hold together long enough to reach Europe at all. At this time scale, further changes are likely so we can't write off Gaston as a future factor in this forecast.
In BRITAIN, southeast England will continue considerably warmer until Saturday with highs 27-30 C. The trend for other regions is more similar to the above forecast.
My local weather on Thursday was sunny and hot; highs reached 30 C and we will have one more hot day today before much cooler air arrives from the north for the weekend. It is also hot (and humid) in eastern regions of North America and will remain so for the next week or so.0 -

TODAY will be a pleasant sunny day in many parts, but there might be considerable cloud in a few parts of the north and some light rain could brush coastal regions near Donegal Bay by mid-day. Highs will range from 22 in parts of the south to 18 where rain or cloud are prevalent.
TONIGHT will see a return to mainly clear skies with fog patches and some dense fog in a few valleys by morning, lows 6-10 C.
TUESDAY will be partly cloudy and warm with increasing cloud west, and rain by late afternoon or evening near Atlantic coasts, highs 20-22 C.
WEDNESDAY will continue to see morning showers and gusty southwest winds but it should begin to clear later, highs near 18 C.
THURSDAY will be partly cloudy with highs near 19 C.
FRIDAY will have cloud and possibly some rain at times (this system is coming in a bit faster now) and highs near 19 C.
NEXT WEEKEND is expected to be breezy, rather warm and some further showers are possible.
Beyond that, most models flirt with very warm conditions for a time around the 8th to 15th of September, possibly a spell of Indian Summer weather, but what has me somewhat concerned is that Gaston, while well handled in general by the models, has intensified almost to category 4 intensity and I think there is probably some uncertainty about how much of a remnant could possibly survive to reach western Europe or interfere with the set-up for a warm spell, or perhaps even to make the set-up longer lasting, in other words, uncertainty that is always present at a time scale longer than a week (or a day as the voice in my head was saying).
My local weather has turned cool and showery, although very small amounts of rain have fallen so far, with highs on Sunday only 17 C.
As mentioned, Gaston has begun to turn north in the central Atlantic and is a powerful category 3 hurricane. Tropical Depressions 8 and 9 have been identified; and the way things look, 9 might get a name before 8 does, which will be confusing (in that case, 9 will be Hermine and 8 will be Ian). We shall see if either of them makes it, because at the moment they are both rather anemic looking but models show them gaining at least tropical storm status eventually this week, 9 will move into the eastern Gulf of Mexico while 8 meanders around near Cape Hatteras. Of the two of them, 9 probably poses more of a threat with some models making a hurricane of it (but this is not the official forecast yet).

TODAY: For the remainder of the day, a widespread mix of cloudy and sunny spells, with best of any sunshine to the eastern half of the country, and cloudier to the western half of the country (clouding over completely to the western half of the country as the day/afternoon goes on). Highs of 22 or 23c in sunnier parts – highs of 19 or 20c to cloudier areas.
TONIGHT: Rain moving into western counties early this evening, with a few heavy burst, and moving eastwards, but becoming light and patchy. Rain clearing overnight. Overnight lows of between 10 and 14c.

TODAY: Starting dry for many areas this morning (away from the west coast) with good sunny spells. Showers already into western coastal counties will become more widespread during the morning but will taper off in the afternoon. Highs of between 16c and 19c, possibly 20c, warmest to the south and east of the country.
TONIGHT: Mainly dry and clear. Cool. Overnight lows of between 7 and 10c.
THURSDAY: The day will start dry, with some good sunny spells, but cloud and light/intermittent rain will move into the west of the country mid-morning, extending eastwards during the day. Highs of between 16 and 18c.0 -

TODAY: A generally wet day (on and off) for most. Persistent, possibly heavy rain, this morning quite widespread. Heaviest rain for the south, this morning, moving north eastwards during the morning to eastern areas. Rain becoming more showery by afternoon, with a risk of some heavy/thundery showers, but, there may also be a few sunny spells in places too by afternoon. Highs of between 15c and 19c or 20c (highest where any sunny spells develop).
TONIGHT: It will become generally dry overnight after the last of the rain and showers clear later this evening. Overnight lows of 11c or 12c.
SUNDAY: A mainly dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Highs around 18c. Clouding over later in the day with rain spreading from the west in the evening, becoming widespread overnight.
OUTLOOK: After an Autumnal weekend, looks like Summer may be back for the early days of next week!
Any rain in the east should clear early on Monday. After that, it should generally be dry, warm and humid for the early days of next week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), with some good sunny periods, and with temperatures generally of between 19c and 23c each day. TODAY: After some early low cloud and drizzle clears, it should be a mainly dry day for most of the country, for much of the day, with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Should be a fine afternoon in Croke Park for the All Ireland Hurling Final. The exception to the ‘most’ bit being the south and south west coasts, where rain will nudge in to these areas mid morning and then extend country wide later today/this evening. Highs of between 16c and 19c.
TONIGHT: It will be a damp night with intermittent rain/drizzle and with fog in places. Overnight lows between 12c and 16c.
MONDAY: Any rain/drizzle should clear the east early on to leave a mainly dry day with a few sunny spells. It will be humid and becoming warm with highs of between 19c and 22c, and up 24c where the sun breaks through. With a southwest (humid) air flow, always a risk of southern and western coastal fringes being cloudier or remaining cloudy with some drizzle and/or sea fog from time to time.
OUTLOOK: After Monday, Tuesday to Friday are looking similar (to Monday). In the main, dry, warm and humid. Not wall to wall sunshine, but a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Could see 25c during the week, to a few favored spots. The risk of more cloud, and, drizzle/sea fog to southern and western coastal fringes will remain, with risk reducing to western areas later in the week as the airflow becomes more southerly or southeasterly.0 -

TODAY: We are now into a milder/warmer spell with a humid southwesterly tropical airflow. After some early mist and light rain/drizzle clears this morning, it should be a mainly dry day for most. It will be predominantly cloudy, but there will also be some sunny spells too. The exception to this being southern and western coastal fringes where some drizzle and/or sea fog may persist for much of the day. Highs between 18c and 22c, generally, and up to 24c where sun breaks trough.
TONIGHT: A humid night, with lows of 15c or 16c. Drizzle and fog may move in from southern and western coasts to become more widespread during the night, with a risk of some more persistent rain to the west coast.

TODAY: Light rain/drizzle to southwestern and western counties this morning should retreat back to coastal fringes and may/will fizzle out altogether. For the remainder of the country, a mix cloudy and sunny spells (cloudier to southwestern and western counties). Another warm and humid day. Highs between 19c and 23c, generally, and up to 25c in places.
TONIGHT: Another mild/humid night, with lows of 15c or 16c. Light rain and drizzle may again move in/become more widespread to southwestern and western counties. Dry, generally, elsewhere.
WEDNESDAY: Another warm day. Highs between 18c and 23c, generally. Rain will develop in the west during the day and spread eastwards during the evening/night. This band of rain will introduce fresher weather, and, may also bring a spell of quite windy weather Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
OUTLOOK: Much fresher on Thursday with more normal Autumnal weather! Windy/blustery with a mix of sunny spells and showers (heavy in places). Temperatures more normal for the time of year. Highs of around 18c.0 -

TODAY: Another warm/humid day for many, but not as warm as recent days. Light rain/drizzle again for southwestern and western coastal fringes. For the remainder of the country, generally a mix of cloudy and sunny spells. Highs between 18c and 23c, generally, warmest to the east.
TONIGHT: Light rain/drizzle will become widespread from the west this evening and overnight. Starting off warm/humid to the east but becoming fresher from the west as the light rain and drizzle clears/moves through. Overnight lows of 12c to 14c. It will become windy this evening and overnight, with gale to strong gale force winds along the west coast (moderating by morning).
THURSDAY: Fresher/less humid with more normal temperatures. A mix of sunshine and showers, with the heaviest showers in the afternoon, dying out later in the day/evening. Highs between 16c and 19c.
OUTLOOK: More showers for the first half of Friday. A more organized band of rain will spread from the west later in the day. Becoming windy again.0
