This. I was going to say surely it's cheaper to do CGI films, but a quick Google tells me otherwise. But CGI would suit game related films far more than live action imo.

Considering the inspiration for Uncharted I think live action would be better.

The Indian jones and all the Romancing the stone campy adventure romances.

    Jesus, it gets worse...

Wahlberg was originally going to play Nate at one point. But it's been in development for so long, he's old enough to play Sully now

then that would just be the game, like those CG movies you see on youtube made using the cutscenes/clips from the games

the creative director at google stadia puts foot in mouth with a tweet about streamers should pay licences to stream to game developers: https://twitter.com/BangBangClick/status/1319305552560836609

Cue pretty much everyone ****ting on him

Though I've gotten some interesting chit chat out of it on my end about where the games industry intends to go with streaming in the future, at some point someone is going to want to throw enough money at streaming to demand some level of control.

I dont think licences will be a thing, the games industry has always tried to avoid solving it's problems with legal, my money is on twitch or youtube throwing money at some playstation or xbox exclusive title in the future to have it locked that streaming that title from the console will only be able to stream to their website and that will open a floodgate in the same way we saw a tonne of timed exclusives to consoles and the epic store, we'll get the same for streaming platforms.

What a dumbass viewpoint to have, its free advertising

If you look at the Steam best sellers list you'll see the massive influence the likes of Twitch and streaming has on the industry in terms of moving units.
Look at who Sony let play the PS5 first as they are easier to control. YouTuber's and Vloggers weren't going to say oh the console could heat a room, the expanded memory might overheat and spread basic misinformation for clicks like some sites did with the Xbox Series X.

However the relationships between studios and influencers these days is a lot easier to scrutinise than the not exactly squeaky clean one between studios and the media in the past, probably because the gaming press are savy enough to be clever if they get asked to "feature" a game.

I think they would rather control that influence themselves. My kids picked up Among Us (5 quids) and that free chinese Zelda knock off from these influencing platform, not a lot of revenue for any of the big publishers and distribution platforms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,286 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Surprised they don't try it. I mean they're not above microtransactions so clearly they'll try anything for a few quid

Anyone know where I could see a perspective video on the kit the lad is playing with in this video? https://www.instagram.com/p/CGpoC5LhZzU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Is a Vr headset only adaptable to a very limited number of racing games? I would have thought it’s adaptable to no console games at all but I could be totally wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,922 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Publishers pay streamers hundreds of thousands of dollars to play their game. To think any of them would think they could charge the streamers a fee is beyond daft.

Outside the few genuine mysteries like among us. If you see Ninja, Dr. Disrespect or Shroud etc playing a new game you can guarantee they are paid promotions.

Imagine thinking Messi should pay Pepsi a license fee for using the Pepsi logo in an ad for Pepsi.

According to a tweet by Jason Schrier, he's not actually a creative director at Stadia. He works for a games studio which Google bought to become part of Stadias exclusives. This is just the stupid opinion of a guy that happens to be part of a company that Google bought, not some guy who is shaping the direction of Stadias road map.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Back during the big and practically pointless voice actor strike, some of the more Hollywood actors were arguing that they should also get a cut of streaming revenue. That never made it into the demands in the end, not that they got anything from their demands but that didn't even make the demand list.

Licensing for other mediums works that way for public performances and while we might roll our eyes and point out the difference, some will just see how it works elsewhere and want another cut.

GT Sport on the PS4 lets you do time trials in VR mode, but nothing else. Wipeout Omega Collection also has a VR mode if you've got a strong enough stomach.

On PSVR you have a very limited mode in GT Sport,
Just you and one other car on the track if I remember.
Dirt rally 1 is fully playable.
The only other racing game was Driveclub but it's pulled from the store.

On the PC you're spoiled for Racing Sims which are VR compatible.

I saw a few developers sharing this, and it’s well worth a look for a bank holiday diversion. It’s basically environmental storytelling and exploration at its finest and most surprising :pac: Try to unlock the achievement for finding the secret shower room.

I was hoping for something like Gone Home but i actually felt more anxious going through this house. It took me 2 'playthroughs' to find the secret shower room :pac:

So many questions, so few answers. I saw some bananas in a bowl on a table and thought 'oh, at least they have some fruit out', turned a corner and about a hundred boxes of bananas, wtf!

    Serious anxiety living/working there!

Apparently it’s a former church, so the belief is the shower room used to be a baptism space. Makes having to walk by the Girls Gone Wild DVDs to get to it even funnier.

As my phone is my only gaming platform now, I'm starting to go a bit spare. Can anyone recommend a good phone game? Either like a survivor type or escape room? The free'er the better. Have tried s few random ones and ended up quickly deleting them.

Xcloud running the tests on touch controls ( Dead Cells, Guacamelee 2, hellblade, super lucksy tales, streets of rage 4 or slay the spire) think first month of gamepass is free anyway or just play among us or try a card game like gwent

If you want something meaty Final Fantasy Tactics is a great port of one of the best games ever made. Touch screen controls work really well. Just be aware, it's tough! Not cheap but worth it.

Really enjoy the Room games. Not free either but worth the price.

Groove Coaster, the Monument and it's sequel, Mario Run, and the professor layton games would get my recommendation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,904 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Thanks lads. Gamepass on Android would be class, would easily but a joypad and then shoot the phone screen to the telly. Yeah, among us is the only one i play at the moment. I love gwent but only looked it in the Witcher for some reason.

The Room looks good, i absolutely loved Spotlight: room escape.

Might give Fallout Shelter another go. Old games like broken sword are tempting as well but touch controls can really ruin them.

Command and conquer rivals is great and free.

It looks daft but is surprisingly a good take on the format. You build a deck like a card game then take on someone 1v1.

You Harvest tiberium, build units and use some rock paper scissors tactics to fight. The idea is to hold the three pads one the map. If you hold more pads the missile starts building up. Once it reaches the top it fires. Who ever holds the balance when it launches gets the kill. (You can steal it at the last second)

Games are short. But suit a phone.

This is a high level player but give an idea. It's not this hate starting out.

The Cube:Escape games from Rusty Lakes are good escape room games. There are loads of them, most are free, and there is a continuous story in the background if you like that kind of thing too (not necessary to follow it to play the games though).

Crashlands is a great survival game, works well on the phone and has a fun story. It costs €5, but is on the Google Play Pass subscription, which is €5 per month so that might be worth looking at (Play Pass has Terraria, This War Of Mine, Hidden Figures, Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic and whole load of other good games on it).

    Finished Days Gone yesterday.
My quick thoughts: It was better than I was expecting however the story is kinda crappy and the character you play as doesn't become interesting until the very late stages of the game.

Loved going around on the motorbike, probably my favourite part of the game.

The performance on my OG playstation 4 was pretty dreadful. It felt like the FPS was dropping below 20fps at times and I had 2 horde encounters were pretty much no textures loaded in on the scenery.

Found it quite annoying that the different camps offered different weapons/bike upgrades.

Side missions are pretty meh, but some of the main story missions were great.

Overall though the main story felt around 5 hours too long and by the end it was a bit of a slog to finish it.

Overall I'd give it a positive 7.5 out of 10.

Thanks for the mobile recommendations lads, the cube rooms look right up my street, will check out some of the others as well.

As for Days Gone, I really hope it gets a boost on PS5. As part of the ps plus collection, really looking forward to giving it a spin on next gen.

Have you tried Stadia? If you have revolut one of the promotions is 3 months of pro for free. You get a few games, once you have a controller it should work.

List of supporting mobile devices (you can set an unsupported one to play but performance might not be great).

Game Dev Tycoon is another quality mobile game if you haven’t already tried it Zero, strikes a perfect balance between fun and simulation and pretty much everything is customisable. Not free but it’s given me plenty of hours of entertainment, and it’s very replayable too.

TMI would be having a system in place where when a new female arrives at my vault, i send her straight to the living quarters and make her wait for whatever male i can spare at that moment to introduce her to Vault life. She's all happy with the situation but still feels dark :(

The downside is having a bunch of kids strolling around being useless as i can't put them to work.

Speaking of mobile games, whoever made "AFK Arena" sure has pumped a tonne of money into YouTube ads. Multiple formats, and even paid Elijah Wood or Markiplier to star in a bevvy. They're before nearly every vid I've watched and ye gods guys, back it up a little.

OMG you're playing AFK Arena too, check out my latest waifu, she's a defender type but also serious **** fodder for before I cry myself to sleep at night.

Those adverts are like a double whammy of annoying. I mean being advertised PoS mobile gacha game before every video is bad enough but the veins in me head stand out because of the AFK Arena name where it's obviously been named by a marketing team that has no ****ing idea what AFK actually means but it sounds cool and the 'Gamerz' use it and they were probably chinese with only a basic grasp of english.
