That looks cracking. Be interested to know what kind of budget went into it (if it's not a secret from the wife!)

Van was 4,850 (2 years ago). Only 100k miles on a 2005, with full service. Was very well minded. Spent approx 2500 on the fitout, as everything was DIY. The swivel for the front seat was 250 sterling and the sink/double hob was another £300, which left me with the bones of 1400 for the 2 windows/insulation/carpeting/bed/kitchen/batteries/etc...

Then another 2500 "ish" between the outside (bumpers/bonnet/lights) and the genuine VW davenport alloys.

So all in all about 10 grand. Including the van!!!

That's very impressive with the T5.

Small thing in the scheme of the project i'm sure but was there much acting the maggot to get the exterior lamps from the 5.1 to work?

All the exterior stuff came from a company in the UK called ‘travelin-lite’. They specialise in transporters.

So the front lights came with the matching looms. The fogs came with a new dashboard switch and all the instructions and wiring harnesses. The rear light clusters are actually from a tailgate model so I shaved the corners to match and fit my barn doors. These came with a pin removal tool and instructions on how to re-order the wiring.

I’m a designer by trade who’s always been into diy and problem solving - so the whole project was a huge learning curve but anything that was new I just researched.

As ye can prob tell - I love when I’m asked questions at filling stations or at the beach / campsites.

It’s a registered ‘motor caravan’ now, so the tax is 102 per YEAR! Insurance is only 400... so worth all the hours and expense!

You'll get on well with another user here by the name of Marlow. He's mad into his campers and has several VW's.

We used to have a little type 2 vw when it was just the two of us. Knocked loads of craic and weekends out of it, and same as that people used to love to come up and talk about it. Which I embraced mostly, until one early morning we were hardly out of bed and had a crowd of people were outside admiring it and then when they spotted a hungover me inside started saying oh I love the camper etc.....found it hard not to tell them to feck off!

LOL! :D Is anyone ever up for conversation before midday? Gorgeous bus BTW!

    Exactly!

Enjoy yours, once the kids get up a few years I'd love to get back into a modern one like your own. Looks the business, and you'll enjoy it even more as it's built not bought as they say.

It's finally here, over the moon! The Tiguan has served us well; it's been nearly 3 years since we bought it and it gave us nearly 100,000KMs of great driving. Only ever asked us of a service, although it was due tyres, two painted panels (due to being keyed) and a new clutch... so definitely good timing.

201 Skoda Karoq Style 1.5 TSI 150bhp DSG 7-Speed. The extras include:

    - 19" CRATER Wheels
    - Leather Heated Seats
    - Electric Boot / Tailgate
    - Skoda Virtual Cockpit
And it's finally here... again! The option for an early trade up to 0% PCP with extras for the same price was a no brainer to me really and this revision has some new adjustments that make it all more worthwhile. It's the same model with my previous extras, engine, DSG gearbox with the following:

    + New Steering Wheel Design
+ Changed to the Quartz Grey
    + Front Assist Parking Sensors
+ MIB-3 Head Unit (Wireless Android Auto!)
    + 2 x USB C 3.0 Charge / Connection Ports
+ New GUI / Maps / Virtual Cockpit Interface

I’d be interested to hear how it compares to the Tiguan. I know they’re pretty much the same car beneath the surface but Skoda has come on a lot in recent time so I’m thinking the gap has been narrowed significantly.

Well my comparison is with the 2014 Tiguan, pre facelift we traded in originally. Driving wise, the Karoq is far better but then again, I went from a manual diesel to a automatic petrol.

I'd love to try a newer petrol Tiguan to compare but I can tell you that the Karoq is a lovely drive, very smooth and comfortable and has the same VW common layout so I know where all the buttons are

So picked the car up this evening after getting a full paint correction and ceramic coating applied I'm delighted with the results.

Not where I live we have had snow the past two day. Two different snow sessions the first nights snow melted eventually during the first day and then we got more.

you must be in a town or city as the roads outside have been bad. Was planning on washing the car over the weekend after getting a few bits from D&D during week but weather was terrible

Lovely. How does the boot opener work, do you just hold the button to open-close?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,723 ✭✭✭masterboy123

Yes, correct using the key. Have to press it thrice to open and thrice again to close.

Plus there is also a button attached on the boot door to close it.

Plus if I press "unlock door" button on driver side 3x then you can open/close from driver side also.

    Overall its a neat work.

Do you know who they got to do the retrofit?

Dealer sticker is awful, I’d have that off straight away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,723 ✭✭✭masterboy123

Actually I asked the dealer and he replied that it will be covered under the warranty from their dealership but never mentioned who and where these folks based.

I don't have a dealer sticker. There is an AA sticker and another sticker on top right corner indicating when is the next service due.

On the boot door, under the hybrid badge.

With tinted windows I guess this replaces a window sticker,

Leonard’s in Mulgrave Street do it too. You’d think they’d have enough free advertising on the number plates and tax disc holder :)
