Any mods installed? Try load vanilla. GPU drivers up to date etc?

Could be my GPU alright, its from 2010! No driver updates as far as I can see. I guess I'll wait until I get my new laptop

I wonder if the VRAM craps out. Did you try lower the resolution at all?

I didnt yet - yeah it's looking like my spec is too much for some of the newer stuff.

Well, the new DLC is out and honestly not worth the money they're asking for. I bought just because I love the game but I have a slight taste of buyers remorse.

Not to say I hate it, the content is great but there's not enough content in it to justify the price tag.

In other news, there's a GREAT map of Dublin to play here:

I bought the game yesterday in the Steam sale. I got up two hours early to play before work today which says how I currently feel about it. My first five cities all died fairly quickly but I think I've cracked it with the sixth one.

    Thats cool.

Any chance that there is a savegame of the same map anywhere?

I bought this game and can't even get past planning a decent road. :(

It's a bit laggy on my Mac too.

I picked this up at the weekend along with the 2 expansions and had a bitta fun with it at the weekend. Some useful and some not so useful mods on the "most popular of all time" list on Steam Workshop (roads protractor in particular).

    Rush Hour Beta is great

    Current features
    Snowfall
    Works with Snowfall!
Cims prefer to go home if they're getting rained on while stood around outside.

    After Dark
When going out at night, citizens are more likely to choose specialised leisure areas in their local area.
Tourists stay in your city for longer, and if you have hotels near tourist hotspots they'll go there at night.

    General
XML event support for custom buildings. (More information)
Cims don't use pocket cars as much any more. Instead they attempt to park.
Cims go to work and school at reasonable times during regular weekdays.
Cims don't go to work on weekends.
Over night some Cims may decide to go out if they feel like it. More will go out at night over the weekends.
Random events happen in your city at certain landmarks which attract certain people.
    Official buildings
    Aquarium
    Modern Art Museum
    Posh Mall

Got a building you've added events to? Let me know!
The date bar has been changed to show the actual city time
Time has been made 4X slower to give Cims time to do stuff.

The traffic buildup is more realistic now (busier during the day, quieter at night) too

Guys how do I create zones for anything other than industrial? I want to create a bar & nightlife area. My town looks awfully lacking in things to do currently.

I have the DLC that has the night and day stuff so I'd assume that I have what I need.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,633 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

Use the same draw tool you use to make an industrial zone, but use the blank one (no specialization).

When you've made it click on it, and it should bring you into policies. They're the same as the national policies, but they will be restricted to that zone.

I'd advise legalising weed, boosting park funding and ticking the one that makes it a special entertainment zone.

If you have After Dark, you need to create a District and then assign it either tourist or leisure

But where do I make that assignment? It isn't jumping out at me, I'm sure the right DLC is installed.j

I think you need a town of 5000 before tourism is available and 7500 for Leisure. They are under a new tab in the district section (the icon right of zoning)

After 4 years at the top Football Manager 2012 is no longer my most played game on Steam.

By far one of the best PC games I've ever played. After having not played it for a few months I decided to come back and I'm loving the new updates - especially the night-time and dynamic weather. I may get the deluxe upgrade soon.

LOL, 107 hours, that's adorable GB. Does your Mammy only let you play for an hour on the weekends or something? :P

I'm not at all envious of the fact that you seem to have a life

Cities still hasn't broken into my top games list, must go back to it and get properly stuck in, it's very enjoyable.

More hours than two years' worth of full time work.

Shame Xfire is gone, I had some mad stuff clocked on Xfire. 1300 hours of Cod4 ranging from when it came out in November 2007 to win I completed my leaving cert 18 months later. I'd probably be a doctor or something if it wasn't for Cod.

A measly 339 hours on CSGO is first followed by Cities on 183.

I'd accept that if I was a PC gamer to the fullest but I'm not - I have a PS4 & Xbox One as well.

My city just broke 16,000 citizens but I'm already bored of it and want to start another one. :P I think I like the initial building/planning stages best. So. Should I keep at it or give in and start a new one?

It could be a good challenge to try to continue to build and see if your initial layout can be scaled up well.

True. My initial layout is challenging enough (i.e messy with no real rhyme or reason!) to try and grow it would be interesting.

I'll stick with it for a while and see what happens. :D

Keep it growing. The real challenge is keeping it problem-free as your population grows.

I'm on my 5th city and would have scrapped my previous 4 because they usually had a problem I couldn't be arsed correcting. Each one got progressively better. At the weekend I decided to go back through them for a look to see what I had done so wrong and my very first city actually had the biggest population despite still having around a tile of empty space left. It was a very unhappy, unhealthy population with a horribly congested road and rail system, and every area had something to complain about.

My general goal is to fill all available land mass but have as few problems as possible.
