And the southern section isn't near to being tarred yet, a long way behind

I think that's mayomafia's point - the whole scheme must open in one go, but some parts are nearly ready.

It's probably mentioned already (I can't find it) but why are they rerouting the current road?

Have they their own batching plant on site for macadam or are they just buying it in?

Thanks for all the updates M17. Is it fair to say that the tie-ins at the ends of each new scheme are always left until last? Great progress. I might have to revise my completion estimate backwards from August Bank holiday weekend 2017

Are them construction workers going to be closing down one lane on the current N18 in Kiltiernan? It looks like Galway Co Council will be getting their way with the N17 becoming the N63 from Galway city to the Loughgeorge turn off for N63 and the N67 will from Oranmore to Kilcolgan turn off. Oranmore to Claregalway is going to be downgraded to Regional road status because of narrow slip roads at Junction 19 on the M6 and you would see for yourself when driving a truck through this junction you would nearly crash trying to round the roundabout instead of hitting all the Roundabout signs :-)

Great picture. Really shows it taking shape. Fair play for all the updates and great pictures. It'll really be good to have it all documented for the future.

Almost 90 thousand euro has been announced for flood relief measures along the northern stretch of the Gort to Tuam motorway.

The OPW has sanctioned 84 thousand euro for the installation of piping along the long-awaited motorway to allow overflow into the River Clare.

It follows a full review of the drainage system for the motorway agreed at a high level meeting earlier this year amid claims that the route was responsible for severe flooding across Galway.

It’s expected that the works will now get underway following the completion of a hydrological report on the proposed scheme.

Meanwhile, a further 9 thousand euro has been allocated for a study of the Ardacong, Marley and Fairymills areas in North Tuam which experienced severe flooding over the winter.
It's good to see that this is being considered now while the motorway is being built, even if last winter's rainfall was unprecedented.
