Why did Guiney leave the panel?

seems to be a clash of personalities more than anything. Plenty of rumours abound about both sides of the argument, but it seems as much as anything that it was mutual enough. From what I can gather, Guiney was asked to train the same day as a Fitzgibbon cup game. He wasnt best pleased but was named to start against Limerick the following Saturday. He pulled out that day and the selectors were still saying he was part of the panel the following week until Guiney said he was gone. I dont think Guiney has the attitude to want to sacrifice absolutely everything just to hurl at county level, he's still young and wants to enjoy himself and Dunne wants a regimented set up (which is somewhat surprising given his own chequered past).

Shane Bennett is quality, what an Athlete, the ball he won for his shot on goal, last Saturday , just before half time, was as brave and Athletic, and just a joy to witness, plus his first landing step was a pace, instant movement, love his directness, its a score[99%] or a foul, think Young Gleeson and McNulty , and also both Roches, Tom Devine, Mike Kearney have shown enough to suggest they all will play a part even if its to make the first 15 better, last Sunday showed , that we are very Close, T de Burca 's hurling came on a ton in a wekk, so a month will have him all guns blazing, physically much bigger now, All star gave him a bit more swagger too, and it should, we're on the cusp now, not too bothered about Wexford, for all the talk about trying to build up the Game, and Players not becoming complacent, ect, its a bag of ****e, Wexford are Poor, have been slipping now 2 years, and were only improving with the confidence of a Successfull run at U-21 two years ago, Team that played on Sunday for Waterford would more than beat them, if right, not getting carried away, but as of now, its Kilkenny and then Waterford coming up on the rails, simple as that, Cat can look at the king, but Waterford don't lose too many that they are set right for, Waterford by 6 0r 7 points Pulling up.
P.S. Any one Know if Darragh Fives is injured , or he has been Managing his Injuries , and been rested, and i hope its the second, as to me, he would be a major Reason that Waterford would be Successful, no disrespect to Tadgh, but i'd have Darragh Centre back/sweeper all day, and have Tadgh beside him, and push kevin moran on, with Phillip / Shane McNulty fighting for other spot, I think McNulty is that close now, just an Opinion, and Phillip has had a good league campaign, so he gets it , for now, but anything other than Speculation would be helpfull, and what a joy to see Paudie back, C'mon the Deise, Good Times are not just coming there here, if we could just organise ourselves to be a little bit more offensive , we'd take some stopping, but we'll se, Doesn't a week and 10 changes , and a win make some difference.

Shane Bennett is ridiculously athletic, si powerful for his age.
The bulk he has added, he along with the other players are really dedicated 24/7 - there is a real culture of excellence around that panel

Look at how fast mahony came back

What a fantastic bunch of young men

trying to remember but was in it 2012 or 13 that carlow almost knocked wexford out of the championship ???.

2014 was a false year for them i think they got lucky against a hungover Clare side and beat a mess of a waterford team.

that siad they will throw everything at us sunday week.

An exciting time to be a waterford fan :D:D:D

Is Mahoney in line to start Sunday week sure??
A forward line of mahony,Shanhan,Bennett, curren which can only get better :D:D and there's like 3-4 more on brink of team

Should waterford go hammer and thongs at league and all going well beat Wexford and target Dublin for the semi...

And could we dream of getting a cut off kk in a league final

Goin to put €10 on Wexford to win.....do we want to go too cocky into the game with Davey's lads in June? Imagine loosing to the banner after all the progress we appear to have made since this time last year....remember how the Clare u21 team beat us last year a team we were told we should defo beat and we were almost single handily beaten by a guy called 'Bobby Duggan' who it seemed nobody could mark and scored 13 out of 23 pts. Who is to say a podge Collins, dara hoonan or some of their new guys don't inflict the same on us ?? Donal og adding some extra zeal to their play and Davey will be targeting someone to do a 'job' on Austin Gleeson and get him red carded😡😡

I'd sacrifice a defeat in the league over the banner putting one over on us in June!

I would be utterly amazed if Mahony started. I don't expect him to feature even. McGrath said it was a risk they took to put him in in order to give him a confidence boost. Mahony himself said he's a long way off the pace. I think they'll thread carefully with him now and given the competition within the squad it'll be hard to include him at times. Training and challenge games probably his best hope of sharpening up in terms of games.
Great to see him back but a long way to go before he'll be back to where he was. If he can get himself in contention for the Clare game that would be brilliant.

Yea, I'm having my doubts about Pauric Mahony being involved come early championship. I would love to see him back to his best, however he would need to be hitting his pre-injury form to get back into the team. Who would you drop?
Seriously impressive performance by Bennett, he brings power, pace and directness to the Waterford forward line, something we have lacked recently.
Any word on how the Waterford minor team is shaping up this year? The first round game against Cork is up in two weeks.

Well by luck he means any other year Wexford wouldn't beat either team.

2013 yes Wexford took Clare to extra time above in Thurles but it was after that game that Clare's year took off. Wexford should have beaten them that day in 70 mins actually but Clare pulled away in extra time.

Can Anyone give a heads up re Minors form, Players to watch ect this year, see they are Playing vork in about 2 weeks, at home, first time in along time, i know absolutly nothing about this grade, to my shame, so any news would be nice, and a change of scene from the norm, Plus an update re Darragh fives would also be a bonus[if good news].

He was certainly togged out for the Dublin game and amongst the extended panel along with players such as Andy Molumby, Tommy Waring and Mark O'Brien. Probably more as well, noticed these lads during the warm up and half time.

This group reached Tony Forristal final 4 years ago although well beaten by KK in it. Couple of really strong prospects in Billy Nolan (Roanmore)and Tommy Douglas (DLS). Id give them a 50/50 chance against Cork. But strength in depth could be an issue.

It will be interesting to see how many have progressed to minor level.

Looking forward to seeing the minors. Some really exciting prospects in the forward line, Douglas and Nolan, Assuming that Nolan is selected in the forwards of course. With DLS school performing well in the Harty hopefully there will be some more lads off that team capable of stepping up to county level.

Always hard to predict with minors, especially in the first round of the championship, but hopefully should be a decent Waterford team this year. Cork are said to have a handy team this year, should be a good game. All not lost for the defeated too with the backdoor.

Disappointing to hear that. I think he is too good to keep him in goal, they could have done with him in the forwards last year when they were struggling for scores. He made a big impression on the senior county championship last year for Roanmore. Waterford must have some other good forwards if they're willing to leave Nolan in goal. Sure we will see soon enough i suppose

I didn't see him in action for Roanmore last year but were the most of his scores not from frees for them?

Yeah mostly frees alright i think but for a lad of 16/17 to hitting 10 points in a senior championship match is impressive. He looks comfortable whatever level he plays, minor/u21 county, senior club.

Did the minors play any challenge games in the last few weeks?

Apart from Nolan and Thomas Douglas, any other lads that are handy? Are Darragh Lyons, Peter Hogan, Edmund O'Halloran and Andy Molumby all overage?

no none of those lads are minors. From last years side Eoghan Murray, Darragh McGrath, Glen Waters and Jack Prendergast are all still on the age. Michael Mahony of Ballygunner (younger brother of the 2 mahonys) should be on it. Also Jamie Barron has a younger brother havent seen him but apparantly looks good. Heard Billy Nolan had been centre back for a recent challenge game but dont know if that means anything
