Why did he go for the takedown? Nuts!

Because he was being outboxed, was landing nothing and was wobbled more than once from Nate landing decent hits.

Conor submitted in 2nd round as he was beaten.
Was caught in a hold that he wasn't getting out of.

Nate was bleeding from an eyebrow from early in the 1st but it was a thing of nothing, he was well able for Conor, made him look out of his depth in boxing and on the ground.

He totally won, no excuses, Conor has a lot of work to do as Nate is by no means superb.

Diaz wins via rear naked choke. It was a beautiful submission.

oh dear oh dear. Love Nate Diaz, one man that genuinely just absolutely doesn't give a f*ck. well done son
I feel bad for Connor but a large portion of his fans are insufferable morons so its hard not to enjoy it :)

If McGregor could have afforded to lose one fight, it was probably this one. He went up 2 weight classes in a weeks notice and a belt wasn't even on the line.

Conor said post fight "I am humble in victory and defeat... " or something along those lines, no Conor you were never humble in victory. He was most definitely humble when the 2nd round ended earlier.

Delighted I stayed up for that, brilliant stuff :D

That's like 95% of the reason why I'm loving it. McGregor is like a brilliant WWE heel, selling his fights by talking absolute nonsense and that's fair enough.

But the sizeable element of his fanbase who are, as you said, insufferable and will hate this, that's the reason why this is so enjoyable.

Irony he loses to such a shoot style move.

Fair play to Diaz, thought Conor had enough damage dealt to that eye to keep working it til he got a result.

McGregor losing is like sending the sacred cow to the slaughterhouse in a way :o be interesting to see how he responds, I wish him all the best anyway.

Just goes to show that jumping 2 weight classes us a hard feat. That along with getting cocky right before that punch Diaz threw..it was all over after that 1 punch.

Conor was humble in defeat and will take a step down in weight class and will be successfull again.

There was blood but minimal damage. The eye wasn't even partially closed, cut scartissue, thing of nothing as I said after round 1.

Aldo has a message for McGregor up on his official Facebook page. Didn't take him long!
Conor McGregor I'll see you at ‪#‎UFC200‬, your Cinderella fantasy is over. Nowhere to run to now- you're gonna have to give me my rematch, you pussy!! UFC

Nate was called up 11 days ago and made him tap like a bitch. :D

Just imagine what Dos Anjos would've done to him

Shame Conor McGregor lost, but still classy in defeat. Respect. Hard luck though. Dust off and keep fighting, and come back stronger.

Diaz is a good fighter when he wants to be. I had him winning this fight because of his superior reach and his boxing skills. Unfortunately for Conor he found out the hard way his power isn't as formidable at this weight as it is at featherweight. If it had been it might have saved him. I bet Aldo will be keen for his rematch now

Will McGregor be humble after this result or as outspoken as ever?

Aldo is the pussy:P he said he'd fight McGregor anytime, anywhere, then when he was offered the rematch after Dos Anjos pulled out he refused it. Hopefully Mcgregor beats him again. However i fear he will lose the rematch if he doesn't greatly improve his ground game, because Aldo will surely not be as stupid in the rematch.

McGregor scripted this to a tee. Fair play to him for taking a dive to further his career. Was that really Nate diaz? Methinks it was not - it was a McGregor plant.

He gave credit to Diaz and said he'll come back stronger from the defeat.

The haters coming out of the woodwork are insane. He's there to play the fight game and he's played it well regardless of results. Typical begrudgery.

Disappointed to see him lose obviously but how he goes about recovering from this loss is a really fascinating story waiting to unfold.

The hilarious thing is people who hate MMA, staying up to watch MMA to slag off MMA. Good job lads.

Hopefully not. His character and fighting ability has helped set the sport alight.

Finally he ran out of luck and into some fists it seems.

The amount of muppet McGregor fans dissing Diaz over the last week was annoying I.e. he is dumb etc. It was an easy way to separate real mma fans from the spa fanboys. Anyone who knows anything about mma would show respect to the Diaz brothers for what they have done for the sport. Conor says what he says to build the fight and he is getting in the cage and so has earned the right. Then you have all the plonker parrots repeating everything. Conor will be back strong but hopefully the bandwagon will be a little lighter
