Time for everyone to get off the bandwagon.

Finally he ran out of luck and into some fists it seems.

Why do people say this, McGregor is a good fighter, Diaz beat him but that doesn't take a way from what he acheived up to this.

McGregor always flies the flag for his country.

Hopefully this ends all the nonsense hype and his fans can go back to watching WWE

Can't win them all. I'm not a fan, don't watch the fights but he's a fantastic ambassador for both his country and the ufc. He'll be back stronger than ever, I have no doubt. Even Kilkenny looses sometimes.

In my important and expert opinion he lucked out on his last two fights and yet was still considered the best thing since sliced bread. I've never had much time for cocky fighters so I'm hopeful this might make him and his fans quiet for a bit.

Well, you are dismissing quite a few, including Roy Jones Jr, Roberto Duran, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Ali.

Maybe watch the UFC post fight interview with Diaz and McGregor, it's online now.

He was gracious in defeat and showed respect to Diaz on his win.

He would have talked yards of ****e about Diaz had he won. Mc Gregor is a mouthy little arsehole and I'm delighted he lost.

I don't mind cocky fighters who are cocky in the ring and can pull it off but it's really easy to go on about how brilliant you are and how you are going to do this and that in a press conference.

Back down to the kiddie table for Conor to beat up on the same collection of has beens and never wases that he has already fought until one of them knocks him off.

Candidate for most un-educated post of the year surely.

Not a follower of this sport at all, but did I see his record is something like 19-3, thats not great for one so hyped up, is it?

He has done wonders for the sport, I am sure the authorities that run it are delighted and will do their best to get him back at the top table again.

Irish rugby on the slide, McGregor beat.......what next for the bandwagoners? The Euros?

No he gives respect to his opponents when he wins as well which you would know if you ever heard him speaking directly after each fight.

Fair play to McGregor - he's done exceptionally well for himself and if anyone thinks the real man is anything like the persona he has created for himself they are well wrong. He's a good guy who realises that you have to trash talk to get to the top i the fight game.
He lost today but he will definitely be back.

BTW, what exactly is a bandwagoner?

    A bandwagoner?

Someone who becomes a fan of something simply because its popular and gives them the opportunity to pretend they are experts on it.

Like all those people who are big into rugby over the last decade or so, yet don't know the rules.

Like all these people who are suddenly into UFC/MMA, funnily enough just as McGregor appeared on the scene.

Like the thousands of Irish footy fans who will be 'on the lash' in France, yet never go to any Ireland games at home.

    You get the jist.

Personally i am glad McGregor got beat here. He was becoming insufferable. Had he won it would have been another escalation in his bragging and s**t talking. I don't think many people could have taken much more. He has no business at 170 btw.

Conor's a greet man! And lost to better man Diaz.

I expected Conor to come out of the trap a lot faster than he did. Does anyone else think the fight looked exceptionally slow paced! Also I think that Conor had trouble with distance when throwing his shots. I have never seen him throw so many shots and hit air? Anyone agree?! And
Yes I'm a bandwagoner. Never watched UFC till Conor came on the seen!

It was a good fight to lose.Conors ground game was always questionable. He really needs to focus on that and I'm sure he will.

Well that's bollox, considering Anderson Silva and GSP are arguably the two best in the history of the sport with resorting to it.

You don't know what you're talking about, I'm not trying to be condescending or smarmy but there's no point in critiquing stuff that by your own admission you aren't clued up on.

MMA isn't like boxing, the win-loss ration tends to be more evenly split. The likes of Anderson Silva has 7 losses and is still regarded as one of the best of all time.

And we thought politicians could spin!

He has been bad mouthing everyone in the game, saying how much he is going to whip people, and the guy handed his ass to him. Rub it up him.

Look, anyone who thinks that McGregor is actually like that in real life hasn't a clue. It's clear that most of those commenting on the man have little understanding of combat sports and least of all the reality behind professional fighting.

One example is people saying "he doesn't respect his opponents". Of course he does, the man is training like a dog and putting his body through unbelievable hardship to compete at this level. He knows if you get into a cage with an opponent at the elite level then it's very serious business. Literally nobody in boxing, MMA or whatever goes into a ring without respecting what your opponent is capable of; you'd soon become undone if you did.

Professional fighting is a business based on entertainment and the sale and marketing of personas. In that you have white hats and black hats; black hats are people who are deliberately obnoxious in order to hype fights - it isn't real. If the whole thing was just about the fighting you wouldn't have flashy ring entrances and massive promotions and face offs and press conferences.

Again, it's a charade, don't take it too seriously.

    No, just no.

Plenty of other guys at the top of the pile for years that don't feel the need to talk **** who just get the job done inside the octagon.

    Enjoyable fight.

Big blow to McGregors image you would imagine now.

Yes, but they don't create hype and rake in the $$$.

I'm bemused by how many people seem to hate him  The sh1te talking IS a part of the gig - there is no two ways about it. Is it necessary? No. Can he be a champion and not trash talk? Yes. But it has made him a millionaire. It grabs attention and garners hype, which attracts audiences which in turn bring the dollars for the UFC, him and his opponents. If one actually bothers to do a bit of reading and watching outside of his press conferences you'll quickly realize he is a sound and respectful fella who is also socially conscious. I know because I thought he was an arsewipe too, before one of my MMA friends showed me his more genuine side.

When I say get to the top, I mean get the fame and fortune - not necessarily be the best fighter.
Ultimately it's about fame and fortune, not being "the best" fighter. Usually one follows the other but not always.
Do you really think McGregors fights would be breaking records if he didnt come across the way he does?

    Again,
Ready my last post on this but getting to the top in a professional sport isn't all about winning, It's about product and McGregors is obviously a better product in an entertaining sort of way!
