Your car seems to have swallowed up a good few parts over the last few weeks hopefully this will sort it for you :)

Yeah it has, it's worth it though, Gaskets are wear and tear items and CCV I wanted to do anyway. Full brake system and suspension next :)
Do you have a DSC fault showing Norman?

Clearly didn't bother heading to you today with it ****ing down rain, will try again tomorrow.

Yeah intermittent DSC fault, very annoying and hard to trace, usually a speed sensor issue but mine are fine, very fiddly!

I was fecking freezing my hands off today :pac:

All depends how many miles a year one's driving. Driving style's a significant factor as well. My corolla wears down a set of tyres a year, doing approx. 25.000 kilometres.

A bit yeah. Roughly 100 notes + VAT.

Shoot a photo of it, give me few more details about a car and I'll look around.

Cool, will try to get a few pics tomorrow. Just been busy with college work the last few days. Cheers

I was thinking of them, but I am a bit worried about their reliability. Looks like they are hit and miss. When it goes miss, you are spending a fortune on them.
I googled them quite a bit a few months ago. It got to a point where people advice to go for Petrol N/A instead if you want e90/e92

SH - even with a lot of N/A e90/92s you could still be forking out for ignition coils but they're not too pricey.

OK it's a lot dearer than the 7000 you set but... As you say you would be down €3000 if the timing chain falls out of it which as you with a BMW. I've never driven one put it has good power and very nice spec coupled with the cheap tax you hear so much about. Worth considering maybe? First thing that springs to my mind when people try to put "fun" and "diesel" in the one sentence. :P

The timing chain is a problem in them, otherwise they are great. I put 135k miles on one in 5 years and I was sad to see it go. Timing chain went in it, think it was about 1500 to fix with an independent guy, car was good as new. Great car still

Almost lost the focus twice there. Motoring along at 100k, met an extremely heavy hail shower, and a layer of hailstones on the road, all of a sudden. Combine this with a sharp bend and it was a disastrous combination. I completely lost it, swung right out to the other side of the road, don't know how I regained control of it before hitting a load of trees. I took it easy afterwards, but as soon as the next turn came it took off again.

Only earlier, before getting into the car this morning was I thinking to myself (after walking on hailstones) how slippy they'd be when driving.

That was the first time ever, I think that I lost a car.

Saw a 159 for the first time in ages (not common at all in Limerick) - they really are a very nice car in a world where every second car is a 520d.

    i'd love something like that.

joking aside, could you just drive that for years and years with not much more than general maintenance or are they actually a little bit fally aparty?

it could be a really nice option if the 15 year old rule gets me out of the Celica this year.

Didn't think there we're any 147's sold in 2010...! Pricey but a nice alternative to the usual sights on the road of that vintage :)

    However...

Roads were lethal this morning, complete black ice around Limerick. 5th gear, 60kph, new (Goodyear) tyres, and a touch of the throttle would have the traction control light flashing like mad. Didn't stop me being overtaken mind.

If I was looking for a nice car in the morning for 3-4K euro the 159 would be hard to beat. I suppose pred is the one that has all the experience with them but I never heard him mentioning engine issues but they do wear out suspension parts at an accelerated rate compared to most cars from what I can tell hard on tyres too. Still your getting alot of car for the money and they still look very modern inside and out.

I hope this morning's chills find ye well and undamaged. No trouble here until I got to the office car-park, which is of course on a gradient. I turned in, saw someone stopped and of course had to stop myself. That was when I noticed that there was no grip. At all. None. The chap in front wobbled gingerly back to me and said he was just going to leave it where it was. I had to do the same, as an attempt to reverse just saw the thing slew sideways down the hill. In the immortal words of Mark Webber, "that car is out of control. That's gone." :D

Slippiest I ever saw was in a car park in Germany, ice with a layer of water on top. I was able to get out and push my car sideways. Not just the front or the back, I pushed towards the middle door pillar and the entire car was moving sideways. And I didn't have that much traction either as I went arse over end. Darndest thing ever.

Mmm. I believe I shall add a few kg of de-icing salt to my arsenal, so I can dig the tank out of this kind of shít-business nice and live-lah.

Re the 159, they are a very reliable car the diesel engines are very good. I wouldn't go with the 120 jtd as I think it's too low for such a heavy car but the 150 is more than enough to shift it along.
If you want some more power then I'd look at importing the newer 2.0 jtd with 170bhp or go the whole hog and get the 210 2.4 :D

I'm a bit worried opening doors on frosty mornings like this. They're frozen shut and I'm afraid of breaking the door handles off.

I've got an urge to change but every time I look at something else I don't want to sell what I have. They're a great car.

Paying for a wedding and getting a possible mortgage are clawing away at me however.
