10k miles on my K&N, time for a recharge :) €19.99 in Halfords.

Struggling to see any benefits so far. Don't really see any MPG difference I don't think, maybe it sounds a bit throatier though. €50 for the filter and €20 for the recharge would have bought me a lifetime supply of paper filters, so it's much of a muchness economy wise imo.

How many times can you recharge the filter before it needs to be replaced with a new one ? Infairness 40.4 mpg from your fuelly signature they are unbelievably good for a Celica my mpg figures are sliding big time at the moment I can't really figure out why unless the car really hates the cold. I don't even drive it that hard tbh I might just start driving the ring out of it to see if that improves things :)

It takes a lot longer for it to warm up in the cold, especially on a diesel and that makes your economy sh*te, especially if your trips aren't long.

Mine's gone up crazy the last few fuel-ups as I've not been in college since December :D

Ye I did a lot of short trips over Christmas and it was so cold you can notice it taking a lot longer to warm up. Should come back as I'm mainly doing 160km trips now.

Apparently if you follow the gearshift indicator you can increase your mpg I never pay any attention to it at all really unless I'm really bored I follow it for about 4 gear changes and ignore it again. It's generally quick to tell you to change up and really slow to tell you to change down revs have to drop to like 1100 ish depending on the load on the engine I suppose.

Don't get the 1.6 as its the PSA engine, so you have potential oil sludge issues, narrow oil feed lines causes oil starvation issues for the turbo again potentialy causing premature turbo failure. Then it's nearly guaranteed you'll end up with leaking injector seals needing replacement it is also guaranteed the egr valve will fail at some stage they generally fail before 200k km they are about 300 quid just for the part last time I checked.

I don't think the 2.0 diesel is too bad higher tax but other than that I can't say I've heard anything bad about them.

C5 at home; 1.6hdi. Near on 200,000 miles now. Only thing that broke was the starter. Sister has one, much of a similar story. Did Volvo build them under licence? There all not ****e.

Leon FR? Usually they're a bit cheaper than the VRS and for the most part the exact same. Interior isnt as nice and the rides harder but the seats are light years ahead and make up for that a lot.

I think octavia Vrs after the subaru. 1.6 derv would kill you with frustration after wrx.

Lovely snarl off the boxer this morning, windows down, froshty car park ...

No TC but the EBD is nice (once you're not overwhelming it with ditchfinders)

Very! Went out to de-ice the Astra half an hour ago and the ice must have been half an inch thick on the roof. It rained several times in the night so the rain must have kept freezing on it.

The road outside is like glass. There was something quite satisfying about watching Mrs. Fanboi wheelspinning away to work.

I fear nothing! Except sideways gradients that render any-wheel-drive and TC useless! :pac:

not much point even trying to get the Celica out of there for another few hours or i'd have Teresa Mannion at me! looks like it's starting to thaw a bit but the road is just sheets of ice.

Empty yard, lots of ice. Give it a lash for the craic, what's the worst that could happen.

Someone decided not to treat the 500m between the local school and the main road. Yummy mummy soft roader carnage I'd say lol.

With all the insurance messing going on thought I'd share a little story to make you feel even worse paying those 1000 quid plus premiums.

For context I live in a 6 unit apartment block with a large shared car park. My bedroom window overlooks the car park. Anyway, last Friday I was at home having a relax when I hear an ungodly squealing from outside, as if someone had the boot down and the handbrake on. It kept getting louder so I had a look out the window.

On the road out the front of the apartment there's an 02 golf limping it towards the car park, but I couldn't see what was wrong as it was dark. He pulled into the car park, all the while sounding like a stuck pig. The light is a bit better in the car park so I can see this guy has done some pretty serious damage to the front passenger side of his car. The wheel is at a totally unnatural angle so I'm thinking snapped steering rod.

So he gets out and is clearly as drunk as a Lord. Can barely stand drunk. This is only 11 in the evening. He staggers into the apartment block, and goes into our neighbours downstairs. He quickly re appears with out neighbour in tow, the two of them jump into neighbours car and off they toddle.

Me, being curious, went down for a look at the golf. The things wrecked and had clearly hit someone else's car. There was red paint transfer all over the front of it. The steering rod is broken clean in half and the body is knackered. I had a check and the car was not taxed, insured or ncted, with the most recent disks dated 2014.

I was pissed off. I pay my insurance etc. and I never drive drunk. So I rang the guards and reported it. They never came up.

Yesterday I came home and the golf steering rod had been repaired and the headlight replaced. An hour later the car was gone. So now there is a drunk driving, uninsured, untaxed wanker driving around my area. The guards could have stopped this, but didn't bother. What if this thunder **** hits a person instead of a car next time?

This kind of ****e is what really annoys me about paying through the nose to drive in this country. Twats just don't bother and get away scot free, even when they are reported. Sorry for the wall of text.

So I was expecting about 2 foot of snow this morning with all the weather warnings, but there was zero last night. A little bit fell yesterday evening and has stayed.

Isn't it the S40 that has the dodgy traction control system that needs replacing at something like 2 grand?

Got the warning light and message on mine and nearly had a heart attack having read about it. I think mine was down to a low battery, or maybe an iced up sensor somewhere. Either way, turning the wheel fully left, waiting, and then fully right corrected it as far as I remember.

The S40's DSTC was great this morning, worked very well to limit wheel spin on black ice in the car park despite my efforts otherwise. Attempted to force understeer too, but it pulled the car back on track very well.

Overall it's a really predictable system, but I'd encourage everyone to have a go of their own car in an icy car park so they get used to how it handles rather than just slamming on the brakes and freezing (:pac:) when the car slides.

Well that WRX is up for sale. My buddy will handle the sale as I am just too busy for that and I hate selling cars. He is a mechanic, so he sold a lot of cars.

I had to redo ad discription though, just put a bit structure in to it. He did put a very high price on it, but for a reason, just to weed out all low ballers and lads who want a sex talk at 12:00. I will take a good bit smaller offer.

When it sells, I am pretty sure I will go for VRS or Alfa 159. Would love a GT, but I need 4 doors now.
