Continuation from motors chat round 8

1.This thread is for motoring topics which you feel are not worthy of starting a new thread for, banter from a meet or general motoring related chit chat.

2.No lonely hearts (This is not a personal dig at anyone, it's how we feel is the best way to describe what we want to avoid. )

    3.Keep it clean.

    4.The Motors charter applies.

Why do you need a pin to tax a car!!!!

I would have 100% no issue with someone identity thieving me to tax my car.

Because the card company could void the payment once they realise a credit card is stolen and you would be able to keep your tax disc :pac:

Just came through a checkpoint in Ballincollig for tax insurance etc. They had about 4 or 5 cars pulled in and was a recovery truck too taking them away. No harm at all! I thought it was an accident so I actually drove past the guard! :p

I honestly can't even remember the last time I drove through a checkpoint and that's with me commuting to university through Dublin city centre!

I bet the moment I run out of tax I will run into one though :pac:

Is probably about 4 months since i've seen a checkpoint and at that time you'd see them quite often.

And that's how you spend €220 on fuel in 6 days :pac:

Please tell me that that trip is not representative of the actual distance you covered to spend 220 euro on fuel.

Mert thread going down like a lead balloon.

    /forever alone

Took me ages to figure out you meant meet!

're checkpoints I've passed four the past three weeks, was one off the m1 in dundalk which allegedly is there to check for illegal immigrants. There must have been twenty cops at it

I sped merrily home secure in the knowledge they were too busy there to be speed checking :pac:

I can tell you it is, have much the same engine and that is easily achievable with a slightly heavy foot.
That's the joys of it :)

I got pulled over at a checkpoint 3 weeks ago at about 1am in Kilkenny I was dropping some drunk family home. Garda made me pull down the window and had a good chat no doubt to check if I was drinking myself. He also checked my tax insurance nct.

Working it out extremely roughly in my head that's 20 mpg. I suppose if you were driving it on that's possible I'd like to think you would get 30mpg driving easy I suppose auto doesnt help either.

I would get that mileage as well, not that I ever spent that much on petrol in a week but if I done that many miles it would cost me roughly €180

    I'm a manual 2.5.
Driving it on sees 19, not driving it on sees 27 or so.
But that is granny spec stuff and never happens.

Wish I still had my asti RX Version R Mivec better mpg and faster as well due to it being 500 Kg lighter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

Jesus that's rough enough for the milage... I'd still have some left out of a single tank. So ~€75 to do that. €220 would be up on 1800 miles.

I know I know, diesel != petrol, yadda yadda :pac:

Hmmm just worked out I'll spend about 160 on fuel next week

    Then I worked out expenses:)

I remember you saying you do a lot of miles is it that you have a long distance commute to work or is it that you just do a lot of driving at weekends.

It is, I'm typically averaging 22MPG or so and that stretches to about 30-35 on the motorway.

    127k man, 106 when I got it.
More low average to be honest.

Plenty of M52 engines going over 300k though, they are crazy reliable.
    BMW reliability rabble wabble :)

I've heard about them being a reliable engine alright I think I may of known someone who has one can't recall though. Ah 106k wasn't a whole lot on it infairness. There is almost 77k miles on mine now.

I still don't think I understand DL reg cars :(

They have every accessory under the sun tacked on to them, are generally very high spec, seem to be in immaculate condition, are usually going for relatively cheap prices.. but I can't bring myself to even consider one. A DL reg is an instant no-no for me on a car. Even on cars that aren't 'boy racer' material. :o

    Instant turn off for me.

I work up there the odd time, and the drivers are simply mental

Am the same with Cavan reg cars

It's not even that the drivers may be a bit mental there, I just can't put my finger on why I dislike them.

If I see a nice car and then see it has a DL plate, my opinion of it always lowers. It's like seeing a lovely car going down the road, and when it passes you see the back bumpers damaged. Your thinking is "nice motor.. shame about the damage".

I have the same thinking when I see a DL plate. And I've no idea why I dislike them so much.

No for me it's that I feel like I take my life in my hands driving in either Cavan or Donegal, and the sheer amount of neglected cars with defective lights etc drives me nuts.

Wouldn't mind a DL reg car meself, lived in Letterkenny for a while and there were only a fistfull of boyracers. You can probably get yourself a bargain by buying something the Dub snobs won't even look at.
